Given Drew's history, I would say

A) problems with defense come from players looking to be scoring heroes instead of team players,

and

B) the team will be better at the end of the regular season than Iowa Bear is likely to believe will happen.

Ironically, Josh O is probably playing the best 1-on-1 of any of our guys tonight.

Both are reasonable propositions.

Cornell's not a bad squad. #115 on Kenpom, which would put them halfway between Okie Lite and WVU in the B12. They're not great, but I think a lot of people in this thread might think they're some scrub program.

We've been saying they need to play a more traditional straight fundamental help man this year. We were mentioning this in the pre season. Nunn and Walter have regressed badly.

You can incorporate concepts like standard wisdom that says force baseline. But this completely selling out and rotating isn't it. The defense is designed to be disruptive. But they aren't and they are always on the back foot. Really bad.

They've abandoned some of it but they need to go straight traditional man with help.

I rarely complain about Drew, but dammit, these last few minutes needed a timeout and some scorers back in the game please.

I keep telling myself they're probably practicing amoeba type D's for conference play and Drew just isn't wanting to show them now, which is why we keep seeing the same thing over and over. He and the staff are seeing what we're seeing, particularly with the 2 you mentioned so I hope he has some things up his sleeve. They're gonna have to create help against Big 12 teams.

They beat a very good Colgate squad 3 days ago. They're solid

It's just reality at this point. The D execution is just pathetic and it doesn't have to be. This exact group with Ku, Iowa St, or Houston coach would be a lot better on D. Just the truth.

Anybody who follows this know I'm pretty soft on staff partly bc they won a title. That gives leeway but the D is just terrible. The intensity is bad. The attention to detail by the players is poor at times.

Folks are frustrated bc this team could be so much better and they're blowing it

I really disliked the different colored lanes in the preliminary photos, but after watching this on TV they've kinda grown on me. I like them. Adds a good visual touch to the floor.

Having attended a lot of games at the McCarthy Athletic Center - (home of the Gonzaga Bulldogs) which is a slightly smaller version of this new Foster Pavillion - I have noticed that the fans can really influence the refs because of the close proximity to the floor - not seeing that tonight
