Why I'd Retire the Following Men's Basketball Jerseys

With the news that Brittney Griner will have her jersey retired, I started thinking — and some have in other spots too — who should the men retire?

All of these debates eventually devolve into: A big group recognized or a narrower scope. I generally am in favor of recognizing a lot of people. The benefit of recognizing more players outweighs the risk “you’ve diminished the honor by selecting too many guys” to me.

No problem with your No Doubters but Michael Williams is a No Doubter too

I don't necessarily think he deserves his jersey retired.
But hott take, Pierre Jackson was the best player I've personally been able to watch at BU

Umm yeah.

Michael is already in the Baylor Hall of Fame.

2 time All SWC team. SWC Freshman of Year. Honorable Mention All American. SWC Tournament MVP. Led the conference in steals his junior year..and led us to the tournament for the first time in 38 years.

Not to mention his high school career of averaging 30.4 a game in high school...and his NBA bullet point of having the NBA record of consecutive free throws made at 97.

Michael is a no brainer same as Teagle and Johnson.

I'm talking about Pierreā€¦ I said I said I don't think Pierre deserves his jersey retired but that he's the best player I've ever seen play at BU.
Michael is way before my time

Gotcha..I was confused by the wording.

I thought your first sentence was a response to mine. And your second sentence was who you thought should be in.

He's also in the Baylor Hall of Fame also.

Was 1992 All SWC.

Doesn't have the bullet points of those listed above.

I am 70 years old, so even I was not around for the 1946-48 or so Baylor Bears. My dad however has told me about Jackie Robinson. Yes, it is Baylor's Jackie Robinson, not the iconic one. Three times all SWC, 2 time second team All-American, 1948 Olympic team, and led Baylor to 1948 runner up finish to Kentucky. Yes, there were only 8 teams in the tourney then, but second in the country is still second in the country.

I know it was a different game, but excellence in your own time should be remembered. I know the Olympics were different then, but that is still pretty cool too. He just died in 2022 at age 94.

Anyway, I enjoy thinking about Baylor basketball royalty, Kendall! Thanks. By the way, Vinnie J and Terry T really were something else.
