An ISU loss would open the door for us to potentially finish 2nd.
We just need to find a way to finish in the top 4. Get that double bye in KC.

Given our new perpetual youth / non-cohesion and injuries this year, that wouldn't be bad

This will be the year of what might have been for the regular season anyway

Iowa St and OU showing out for the NBA scouts tonight in Ames.

At the half:

OU is 7-25 from the field, 0-7 from 3

ISU is 7-34 from the field, 2-9 from 3

Oklahoma St is a poorly coached basketball squad. So many basic fundamental mistakes. People can try to convince me all they want that Boynton knows what he's doing but 7 years of facts say he doesn't. Maybe a good recruiter, but I'm not even sure that's true. Not sure why Ok State has completely thrown away its pride in basketball.

What's Boynton's buyout? Can they afford it?

Didn't Pickens' trust leave something like $200 million specifically earmarked for the basketball program?

Of course it's probably one of those things where the total number is large but the per year distributions are actually small.

I'll go on record now. UCF will upset ISU Saturday

I don't know, but if that's true that's a really crappy ROI.

My main fear with picking Iowa St to go far in the NCAA is that they can get just absolutely putrid on offense from time to time. As good as the D is, Iowa St. could get shot out of the tournament by a really good shooting matchup.

I think they're a safe bet to win their first game in the dance. After that will entirely depend on matchups.

OU sure has faded here as the season wears on. They've now lost 3 of their last 4 with the only win being the 2 pointer against Ok State and have UH up next.

NIT was restructured for this year and now the top 2 teams from the P6 who don't make NCAAs get auto invites. I guess that will be K State and UCF? And if somehow K State plays its way into the NCAA, then Cincinnati will replace them?

Edited: Wrong. It's top 2 based on NET, which would mean Cincinnati is 1st in and then UCF would be 2nd. If K State doesn't make the NCAA, then they would currently have to get one of the NIT at larges, which I'm sure they probably would.

Boynton's defensive track record speaks for itself -- this season notwithstanding. But his teams are brutal to watch on the offensive end.

75% of remaining contract....so $8 million now .

April 1st drops to $6.67 million.

Not hearing any candidates..if they want to cheap out Terrence Rencher is associate head coach or they can get Scott Sutton out there since he's on staff .

Sutton had a pretty good run at ORU.

A coach who works with his staff to only coach one end of the court is called an assistant coach, which is what he should be in a P6 world. He's shown it now for 7 years, with only 1 trip to the dance to show for it. And, even then, he barely got that even though he had arguably one of the best of the 1-and-done eras. Still can't figure out why a program of Ok State's stature would hire him with no head coaching experience.

I have no doubt he's a nice guy. I can't figure out whether he gets the pass for being that, or if it's just that Ok State can't afford to buy him out. He would have been gone a year or two ago almost anywhere else. Maybe he should be an assistant again specializing in defense. But, he'll likely get a mid major job once he's ultimately canned at Ok State. The sad thing for them is that there couldn't have been more than 2,000 people in the stands at the game tonight, or actually for most of their games this season.

Good article on situation in Stillwater

I think they've had a long leash with him is they're still on probation...a reduction of 3 scholarships the last 3 years..I believe that ends at end of season.

That's my understanding as well. We are probably all expecting a coaching change.

I don't necessarily disagree. I'm hoping he'll be on our staff to help fix our defense next season.

I've never been a big Boynton fan anyway. In my mind they often play too dirty. Yea, I know "everyone plays dirty", especially in the eyes of opposing teams but they seem to go beyond the norm often cheating to a higher degree.

I remember a couple years ago in Waco when they had 4+ players foul out. We were getting called a lot too but we had no one foul out. Boynton himself ending up getting ejected. What really bothered me is that one of their players wracked Mark Vital. It was pretty blatant and was likely deliberate. We won that one. A year or two earlier, Jared Butler fouled out near the end of the game because of a bogus hook & hold call. The video clip made it very clear that the OSU player was the guilty party. Arguably, that cost us the game coming at the very end. Those memories stand out but there are other examples.

I know a lot of people like but I'm unsure why. I do hope he keeps his job just because I like stability in the conference & we still have a pretty good record against them.

That's a pretty bold prediction. I hope you are correct: that would help our seeding for KC.
