I know we were in the running for him a year ago. Any chance we recruit him again in the portal? Seems to have had a good season.

We do have a pretty good class already coming in, but think he could make a pretty good impact for us.

If Love and Nunn return, I don't see us having room for another guard -- unless we're ready to push Miro Little out of our program (and I would hope we're not).

With Edgecombe and Wright coming, we'll have a pretty packed five-guard rotation if everyone comes back. We need to focus on replacing Bridges and adding depth in the frontcourt more IMO.

Little played in every game as a true freshman. I think he's seen as our potential floor leader his final two years.

I agree, which is why it wouldn't make sense to go out and get a transfer guard that would likely cut his minutes down to garbage time.

And Miro really seems like a strong fit for the culture at Baylor. I don't think most are willing to embrace JOY.

Not drinking the koolaid; I honestly think there are probably some competitive disadvantages that come with JOY. You may not be getting the level of hunger for basketball success, that sense of identity found in an idolatry of basketball, that might propel some players to apparent success.

Thinking particularly of MJ in The Last Dance. It seems obvious that the dude feels tiny. Always needing to prove himself to himself. Not good for the soul, but certainly good for the fans.

This guy a point guard? Is Wright ready to be a plug and play starting point guard?

We really need another point guard as we're extremely heavy on the two guard position and unless Wright is ready to start in big 12 play as the primary point guard I worry about that position next year.

I will say Carlyle had a lot of buzz this year about his defense, so it's hard to turn that down if he's available. Having 6 guards who can play serious minutes would be huge for us.

And I would only even want a long-term transfer like the kid listed here if Scott Drew doesn't believe the two guys above are up to the task.

I agree. And it's clear CSD has a long-term plan in mind for Miro, which is why he was in the rotation ahead of Grimes. When, to be fair, Grimes was probably more ready to help us this year. But CSD invested those developmental minutes in Miro.

I think it's safe to say that Drew is not interested in that kind of idolatry, or any kind. While that might provide some advantages it also has some big downsides: it might not produce the desired results, it could add all kinds of negative baggage, it could disrupt the chemistry of the team, etc. I trust Drew knows what he is doing.

Even with some pro limitation, Wright would be the best recruit for the vast majority of big 12 teams. Definition of pure pg with a scoring streak. Villanova type pg.

But I wouldn't ride out a freshman pg even if he came in ready to plug and play. Would love to give him 15-20 minutes a game off the bench but he might be too good to do that. He'll have to develop further physically for the defense we want.

The whole defensive approach needs to be completely turned around and slow playing him and the incoming forward will help with that. Love and Nunn need to take a major step on D. Nunn with more development could be serviceable at pg but our fits are guard are just unbalanced. Perfect world, would bring in a true pg but with Little, Nunn, and Wright that probably won't happen. Little developing is critical.

This guy has 3 years of eligibility, so I view this very much as a Jalen Bridges type transfer in regards to his expectations of sticking around .

I absolutely assume Miro will be here next year, but what I saw from him this year says he's going to slide into that Love position of first guard off the bench. It will be wonderful to bring a point guard off the bench for the first time in years.

Unless Little makes some insane jump in the summer I'm not sure he screams starting point guard yet. That's no knock against the guy, he should be a starter by his junior year.

All that to say if you're looking at Little and Wright off the bench, that gives you starters of: Nunn, Love, and VJ. Josh O or a transfer center and then you've got this question how do you fill that next spot, Nunn and Love I worry about eating into each other's game it's very much the same type of style they play. Neither is an amazing facilitator they're both solid iso or kick and shoot guards. The roster next year really needs a true point guard. The flip side of that is you do need some height going what is 3 guards and one undersized forward in VJ would be an interesting look.

What you're saying would be a great situation, but it would never happen in modern college basketball. Little and Wright both came to Baylor to play. And they're unlikely to stick around if there's not a clear path to playing time.

You can't play six guards. There aren't enough minutes to go around. Someone has to sit, and the one who sits likely leaves.

Then I would suggest we're saying goodbye to Love or Little in this off season.

I'm only suggesting 5 guards with playing time on this roster in the scenario I laid out.... We're adding another guard who should get minutes in the portal this year, I don't see how we don't.

That's not a stretch at all, I do agree though it assumes Little is willing to not be a starter again and willing to be patient enough to wait to start on a good team instead of playing right now for a mediocre to bad team.

In a perfect world it would be nice to bring in a more physically mature, defensive-minded, true PG but don't think that happens unless we dramatically overhaul our recruiting philosophy over the offseason. As it stands I don't think there's any way Wright comes off the bench. He and Edge are coming with the expectation to start and drive the team. Not saying I agree or disagree, but that has been our recruiting phiIosophy post-Natty. I think Nunn and Love will get the backcourt minutes with Wright and Edge, with Little in the rotation as the 5th guard.

I'm most interested in what we do to replace Bridges. Is Asemota expected to start immediately, or do we hit the portal for a starter? And if we do hit the portal, curious if we get a Bridges type of stretch 4 or a defensive-minded Mark Vital type.

I am not looking forward to next year starting 3 two guards and a small forward who thinks he's a 2 guard. What it sounds like you're saying is we'll start Love Nunn Wright Edge and probably Josh O. That's a brutal lineup no facilitation, that's a recipe for a 2008-2009 kinda season where we're hurting for a point guard all year.

Wright, by all accounts, is a true point guard. I'm not crazy about the idea of starting two freshmen in the backcourt, but I haven't seen any scouting reports that view Wright as a two guard.

Everything I've seen and heard is that Wright is a PG who can score. I think we start Wright, Nunn, Edge, Asemota or portal PF TBD, and Josh O.

Love I think stays in his 6th man role. Before this season I was ridiculed for saying he wouldn't start and be in a 6th man role, so I expect the same reaction from some posters.

Other main bench guys: \Little, Asemota or portal PF TBD, and Boyed splitting minutes with Josh O at the 5.

CSD might surprise and grab multiple portal guys, but I really only see us targeting a forward to split the 4 with Asemota.

It's fair at this point to question Love's durability, we can't comfortably rely on him being available for a full season, there needs to be a contingency. And it's not out of the realm of reality he'll miss yet another post season. It's crushing but I just don't see us not adding a guard becuase he and Miro aren't going to be reliable starters.

Miro has shot 43.9 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from 3 this year. He has only attempted 41 shots, and he needs to work on playing with more aggression and confidence on the offensive end. But he has the requisite skill set to be a good Big 12 point guard. He just needs more experience and court time.

Wright is a true pg.. textbook even. The previous comment just meant he can score. But running him as a freshman with Edgecombe who will definitely start is very dicey. That would be an incredible backcourt in year 2 but don't have that luxury unfortunately.

And they most definitely need a high level forward transfer who can rebound and defend. Need a jolt of physicality and intensity brought in since we haven't been able to coach it in the more even keeled type guys.
