Awesome story - I had no idea this happened.whitetrash said:
I may have posted about this before, but in 1971-72, the first season after the Rockets relocated from San Diego to Houston, they "barnstormed" by playing a few home games around the state (3 in San Antonio pre-Spurs, 2 in Waco and 1 in El Paso). On Feb. 23, 1972, they played the eventual NBA champion Lakers at HOT Coliseum. Lakers went 69-12 the rest of the season but 0-1 in Waco. It's the only NBA game I ever sat on the front row courtside. Tickets were probably a ridiculous amount, like $10-15 or so.
West poured in 36 in a 115-110 loss (in the pre-3 point shot era).

Back in the late 60s/early 70s (I was 9 in Feb 72), NOBODY in the basketball-weak SWC had anyone taller than 6'8". So I was excited to see how gigantic 7'1" Wilt Chamberlain must be. I remember being vaguely disappointed when he didn't seem all that much bigger (although he was by a bit, especially over 5'9" Calvin Murphy).TXBEAR_bf said:
