Fort Lauderdale (FL) Sagemont Prep combo guard Matthew Able‍ is set to take an unofficial visit to Baylor tomorrow as the Bears take on No.3-ranked Houston at Foster Pavilion.

Able had been committed to Miami since August 30 and signed his letter of intent on November 13, but the retirement of head coach Jim Larranaga made Able reevaluate his situation. He was officially granted a release on February 21; he visited Tennessee last weekend and Alabama during the week before heading to Waco.

The 6-foot-5, 190-pound prospect averaged 20.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.1 steals per game as he helped guide Sagemont Prep to the Class 1A State Championship.

Current Baylor guard VJ Edgecombe (Fr.) played for the same AAU team as Able last year, and both played for Austin Rivers SE Elite. That connection has certainly helped Baylor’s chances to gain interest from the high-profile guard.

He holds offers from Wake Forest, Miami, Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, Michigan, St. Johns and Clemson, among others. Able is a composite five-star prospect and the No. 26 ranked national recruit for the 2025 class.

Five-star wing and McDonald’s All-American Tounde Yessoufou‍ is the lone commit for the head coach Scott Drew and the Bears in the 2025 class. Able could be an option to join the recruiting class, but the coaching staff will be attacking the transfer portal heavily to round out the roster with proven veteran players for next season.

247 Sports’ Director of Scouting Adam Finkelstein’s Evaluation of Matthew Able:

“Able is a well-built wing with broad shoulders and a very sturdy frame that is only going to keep filling out. He has somewhat unorthodox mechanics for someone who makes threes in bunches, with just a slight hop into a noticeable twisting motion, but nevertheless a fluid release and soft ball. While the jumper looked like the first domino in his attack, he showed the versatility to also make mid-range shots off the dribble and solid athleticism in the open floor. The other thing that was very noteworthy was Able’s excellent left hand. He was equally comfortable, not just putting the ball on the floor to both sides but even dunking with both hands. He also showed good perimeter footwork off the catch and was a competitive defender.”
