Juslin Bodo Bodo, sophomore center from Cameroon. 7'0", 240 lbs. Averaged 5.3 pts, 8.4 reb this past season.

Started 70 of 71 games for High Point the past two seasons, has converted 66.3% of his FG, but only attempted 3.3 FG per game this past season. He averaged just over 21 minutes per game in both seasons.

Highlights:

His FT shooting has improved, from 39.8% his freshman season to 53.4% this past season, but he's by no means a reliable shooter. I don't know that he's a starting quality big in the Big 12, without some serious improvement, but this is the type of reserve big a contender has for sure.

I really like the way this roster is coming together. I'm not crazy about the number of one-year players we've added, just because it will put us in this same situation next year, but, to a man, I really like the players we're bringing in. This team will be built much more in the image of our successful pre-title teams than our last few have been.

I like that we've abandoned our "stars and scrubs" strategy in favor of one that better balances out the roster. This team will be deeper with productive, blue collar role players than what we've had recently, which is a good thing IMO.

I also like that we've focused on defense and rebounding with this portal haul. If we can get back to crashing the offensive glass like we used to, we'll be a much more consistent team on that end, and our length should result in improved defensive performance.

Another thing I like about this class is that Rataj, Agbim, White and Powell were all the best or second-best player on their teams, and Bodo Bodo and Skillings are elite in areas where our recent teams have struggled.

I can already say that this team is better constructed than any of the last three, which were flawed from the get-go. It may not end up being better, but it doesn't have any glaring holes, other than the second point guard spot, and that's still being addressed.

On paper, this is shaping up to be the deepest and most versatile team we've had in long while. Drew will have a lot of matchup options.

It's particularly nice to actually be fully stocked at both the wing and power forward/post positions. We've started each of the last three seasons at a deficit in one of those two spots, which has left us relying too heavily on guards who weren't good enough to handle it. That shouldn't be the case in 2025-26.

All in all, I think Scott Drew has done a hell of a job of building an entire roster in a short period of time. If he can round it out with the last couple of pieces, I think we'll have a chance to be pretty good.

I don't know that that guy is still out there. Duke Miles, our current target, is certainly not that guy.

But White has averaged 4-plus twice. Between him and our next portal acquisition, I think we'll be OK at the point.

Not as good as we would have been if Wright had returned, obviously. But likely better than we were last year with a freshman Wright and Roach splitting those duties.

I'm still not entirely convinced that Bodo Bodo is ready to be "the guy" in the post, after only averaging 21 minutes per game in both his seasons at High Point, but I'm open to the idea that he can either grow into it, or that we may add one more big and throw a rotation of Bodo Bodo, Caden Powell, and future unnamed big at opponents and always have a fresh body in the paint.

Given that Baylor MBB doesn't play through the post and he will only be asked to screen & roll or slip the screen, doesn't seem like an overly taxing O burden. The D side is the bigger issue and he seems to be more developed on that side of the ball.

It will be a rotation between he and Powell at the five. Scott Drew's posts usually don't play more than 25 minutes per game. Missi only averaged 23, for instance. I think you'll see a pretty even time share between those two.

I like this post combo, though, because they have complementary skill sets. Both will have matchups they're better suited for than the other.

Two things to keep in mind with Bodo Bodo is a) he was just a sophomore last year, so there's still a lot of room for growth in our program, which has traditionally done an excellent job developing big men. And b) he was actually better as a freshman than he was as a sophomore, averaging a pretty impressive 7.1 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game in his first year out of high school.

Granted, it was at a lower level, but he wasn't surrounded by the same level of talent at High Point that he will be in Waco either.

If he can put up five or six points, seven or eight rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game for us, we should all be thrilled. He will have extreme utility from that post position and will have a good partner to pair with in Powell.

Miles and Bodo Bodo have already shown, from what I understand, they can efficiently run the pick and roll. We saw last year how much worse the offense is when we don't have that threat of the lob-dunk on pick and roll. If Bodo Bodo can threaten on the pick and roll, grab a crazy number of offensive boards, and reasonably protect the rim, he will be a very valuable 5 and be enough of a threat to make the offense work. When not running a pick and roll Ratay and Tounde can attack the post a bit to space the floor and Bodo Bodo will be crashing the boards and must be accounted for. With a pg that can run the pick and roll and 2 that can shoot threes (miles or similar + obi), I think it could work to have a reasonably efficient offense and an improved defense. Obi can also create off the dribble well when needed, and we've seen it's important to have someone that can do that late in the shot clock and when the offense is stalling out.

Will this be four schools or five? "School" is more of a metaphor.

Memphis PG PJ Haggerty also leaving Memphis.

#1 player in portal by far.

Played at TCU then Tulsa.

Fyi.. Penny now has lost his entire roster also..no one returning..there are several other examples that don't contain coaching changes either

That's not really company you want to keep. There may not be a more underachieving coach than Penny or program than Memphis in college basketball right now.

Interesting group of suitors put out by the "source". Not sure a p-4 should want on some of these lists.

He'll soon be pronounced a big time 'piece' for one of these programs:

Given the shooting form in that photo, not seeing a P4 player much less a Baylor player.

It's an agent driven 'X' release. Some use same template. Jast as the bs "portal ratings" sites popping up.

Imagine rating 1500 players and people believing. Clown show.

When the Heat are bounced from the playoffs, pay Davion Mitchell $$$ to fly to Waco to meet with every Portal target.

Even in losses he is a social media firestorm.

I know college basketball and football have never been clean. There's always been some of these things around. But I also know some of our fans don't have time to read or follow a lot of things, and may have sat back and wondered at times why Drew passed on certain guys in the transfer portal. Here's a following explanation on the saga of Moustapha Thiam, the 7-2 freshman center from UCF who averaged 10.4 ppg, 6.4 rebounds and averaged almost 3 blocks a game. He went into the transfer portal a couple of weeks ago and signed with Cincinnati. Allegedly, Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, Villanova, Texas and Michigan all passed. The following comes from Brandon Helwig of UCF Sports.

UCF assistant coach Mamadou N'Diaye shopped himself and star center Moustapha Thiam to schools during the season, all the while still employed by UCF, sources say. N'Diaye insisted the duo were a package deal as N'Diaye's family runs the Flyingstar Academy in Senegal which helped facilitate Thiam's development and brought him to the U.S. N'Diaye demanded an above-market coaching salary, guaranteed for two years, which most schools passed on. Cincinnati agreed to pay N'Diaye's $1.6M demand (in addition to the $2M+ NIL for Moustapha).

Cincinnati, a proud basketball program, has not made the NCAA Tournament since 2019. The seat is warming for UC head coach Wes Miller, who got a huge influx of NIL money this year in a last-ditch effort to turn things around. Thiam is considered a big piece to help doing so and hiring N'Diaye is the cost of doing business.

Cincinnati chose to delay the announcement of N'Diaye's hire for a week because of "optics." And now you know the rest of the story.

UCF vs. Cincinnati games will be a lot of fun next season!
