When this whole F'n thing implodes on these kids and their parents I'll be laughing the hardest. Take THAT to the bank.

Don't see any chance on the Memphis kid. If they pulled that off would put the team very solidly Into very serious contender status, both conference and nationally
I don't even think we want him, to be honest. It's clear that he's more interested in showcasing his ability to play point than anything else. And if he actually had the skill set to do that, he would have done so at one of his three stops before now. That kind of player would likely be a disaster in our program, where guys are given too much freedom to begin with.

He'd score a ton of points and get his stats, but he likely wouldn't help us win.

Possible.. %s are efficient enough but you're right about needing touches to showcase ability that might not be there. Don't need that in the program. To's are high. And I spoke before the $$ number was mentioned, which is wild.

Either way, if they pull off a high level pg I agree with most here that the mix and roster could be good. Mix of size, scoring, defense, and handful of guys with big upside.

You're rolling the dice with transfers and how they'll translate but this group has a chance.

Still think a pg (higher level than Omaha or the Ou kid) is needed.

Man I enjoyed every ounce of Art Briles and lived it up more than most any other schools' fans for near a decade and then what Scott Drew did.

With all this stupidity now, I really don't care much. We win the last championship before the basketball game in college was ruined forever. Now, who cares.

I'm not there yet but I'm leaning in that direction. I'm still optimistic that our coaches can navigate the NIL minefield.

I thought our NIL was solid? Or is that more talk from the higher ups without backing it up?

There's a difference between having a solid NIL and paying one player $3.5 million.

And yet our entire team has left??? That to me makes me think there are issues with our NIL. Or some other hidden program issues.

You want to use our NIL to pay Asemota and Celestine and a frequently hurt Langston Love? I like the players we got so far to replace them. The issue is Wright, who we agreed to a seven figure deal and BYU backed up the truck and overpaid for him. Our NIL is obviously not on BYU's level, but that's because of BYU, not us.

I didn't say that.

I just said that if our entire team left then to me it screams we have issues with our NIL. We could have let the 3 you mentioned go and spent the money to retain others…. But we didn't retain anyone.

So again to me that screams we have an issue with NIL.

Retain others? Who are you talking about?

Omier out of eligibility
Roach out of eligibility
Nunn out of eligibility
Edgecombe will be an NBA lottery pick
I guess you're talking about Josh O, and we don't know what is up there except he probably won't be healthy when the season starts no matter where he goes.

So we have gotten four players in the transfer portal and a 5-star freshman. I like the guys transferring in better than those transferring out (except obviously Wright and Love if he were healthy, which is a crapshoot).

You seem to imply that Wright left because other players left. He left because he was offered nearly 3 times as much as we signed him to (which in my opinion was more than fair). It didn't matter who was or was not coming back. He was leaving no matter what. It doesn't make our NIL bad. It's just not at BYU's level where we can throw around money at anyone in the country.

It's not unlike Tennessee football except Wright didn't give us a chance to turn him down, which we most certainly would have (and gotten good PR over the way Tennessee is now). He simply took the money and ran.

Wow I had no idea we only had 6 guys on our roster!!!

Oh wait we didn't.

I didn't imply anything about Wright. You are putting words in my mouth.

We had our entire roster leave. Yes some were due to eligibility or the NBA but all the others left the program for other reasons. To me that is a problem. You may disagree but that is my opinion.

Before the NIL Wild West that would bcc e'd a huge problem. Today, maybe not so much.

Wright getting more $$$ than the rest of the team combined could cause some chemistry issues. I just hope we beat them soundly when they come to Waco.

I guess that means only UT has good team chemistry

Or maybe that Arch was paid do much money that no kid was going to do better for him. Getting to the playoffs certainly helped the Cows retain players & no doubt helped with recruiting.

As I recall, Coach Call had to start his Arkansas roster completely from scratch this year. They started the conference 0-5. They wound up in the Sweet 16 and a last second shot in OT away from the Elite Eight.

So it can be done.
Not exactly the same situation. Cal was taking over a new program and brought a bunch of his Kentucky players with him to Arkansas.

Three of his top five scorers were guys he had previously coached and two others were freshmen who followed him over from UK.
If Drew had taken the Louisville job, he would have had every roster player and every recruit he wanted. More money to pay them.

All Baylor fans are happy he did not go to Louisville or Kentucky.

BYU is trying to stay quiet on the numbers but they are way up there in NIL spending. Wright isn't the highest paid player on the team, the top freshman is reportedly getting $4mm. Why the SF from Wisc. transferred in when they are paying the freshman SF that much is beyond me.

Wouldn't be a bit surprised if Coach Drew left Baylor for another school with DEEP NIL money in their pockets.

There is no questioning Coach Drew's character and deep belief in God and his Christianity but, he too is a competitor and a coach with a winning record who has turned around what was a near death program into a national champion when there wasn't NIL money.

Yes, college sports sucks now with NIL and I do not watch any college sports other than those that Baylor is playing in, that includes college football playoffs or the NC.

Will be sad if/when CSD leaves Baylor.

One reason Drew remains in Waco is that his family didn't want to move. They like living in central Texas. They aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

So, is he giving the $3.5mm back? Guessing Papa and the agent say no.

Players who sign the mega deal should be cautioned about answering in this way. Juan Soto signed for $765mm, "but it wasn't about the money." It just makes them sound ridiculous.

Of course it's about the money.

When they insist, even before they are asked, that its not about the money, that is when you can be certain, its about the money.

Perhaps it's more of a guideline than a contract.

Also, no school collective wants to be the first to take a player to court.

It sounds like there may be quiet settlements between programs, if a player walks away with NIL money. NBA is being run by the players. It appears that the college game is run by 19-23 year olds.

With RW3 commanding 3.5 this would make sense as a valuation in a vacuum, but part of the value for byu was royally screwing a conference rival that it wants to become in basketball. That was probably worth another mil to byu no one else would have paid.

It would be one school or that school's collective taking another school or another school's collective to court for not buying them out.

Your argument is like saying no school wants to be the first to seek to be made whole because another school convinced their HC to breach and take a new job. At some point every school or collective has to start working these deals so that every collective and school has a built in remedy to protect their own interest. No I don't mean force players to stay just like coaches aren't forced to stay. That would be impossible. . I mean protect financial interests.
