What say you now that we have zero players on the roster?IvanBear said:I have yet to see anything anywhere other than the people on here indicate that we've got a deep pockets NIL issue. Wouldn't be a bit surprised if Coach Drew left Baylor for another school with DEEP NIL money in their pockets.
There is no questioning Coach Drew's character and deep belief in God and his Christianity but, he too is a competitor and a coach with a winning record who has turned around what was a near death program into a national champion when there wasn't NIL money.
Yes, college sports sucks now with NIL and I do not watch any college sports other than those that Baylor is playing in, that includes college football playoffs or the NC.
Will be sad if/when CSD leaves Baylor.

Apart from Rob, rest of the guys left bc baylor wasn't willing to be overzealous w playing time or NIL, not bc they didn't have $$ to give. This has been stated sooo many times. Dr. J, methinks you are an imposter
There was a time (before NIL) where getting a full ride athletic scholarship to any major D1/P5 college really meant something. Now, not so much.chorne68 said:
I would not pay any player not in the two deep a penny. They get free college, free food, tutoring and other perks. Save the money on recruiting and key players. Sometime a four-star recruit could get good money and the next year get nothing. Every dollar counts.
Seems like you are blaming the players for this. This is the inevitable outcome of a system that creates billions of dollars every year, with nearly all of it going to television networks, coaches, and athletic departments. If the NCAA had a spine or any foresight, they could have resolved this long before we got to the Wild West we're seeing today.Dr. J said:There was a time (before NIL) where getting a full ride athletic scholarship to any major D1/P5 college really meant something. 18-20 y/o millionaires driving Lambos (Texas) while the rest of us work for decades trying to achieve that kind of financial security.
Eventually, smaller P5 schools and non-P5 D1 schools will shut down various athletic departments due to financial constraints (lack of funding) and start focusing financial resources back on education again.
Societal values sure seem to be screwed up.....
That is a completely INCORRECT assumption. I am pointing out(same sentiment from just about everyone else) that the NIL has completely ruined college sports and the byproduct of it's spoils are young adults who become millionaires before they are allowed to legally drink alcohol. I seriously doubt O'Bannon had this outcome in mind when he filed his lawsuit nearly 30 years ago. Alston, not so much.Mitch Henessey said:Seems like you are blaming the players for this. For the record, it is actually billions of dollars that TV networks PAY OUT to the various conferences/schools for television rights which they then collect from their advertisers or subscribers to pay the conferences/schools. A large sum of that money disbursed to the colleges helps to pay for the other sports programs that are complete revenue LOSERS for a school such as baseball, softball, volleyball, swimming, tumbling/acro and, essentially any other sport NOT named football to help provide scholarships, fund programs for uniform and travel expenses, as well as athletic scholarships that allow student-athletes obtain an education. That money (athletic/TV revenue), in addition to generous grants from businesses and wealthy donors, allows for improvements and support of academic programs which in reality, is what college is about.....higher education, correct?
So, what will eventually happen is that college programs like tumbling and acro, swimming, field hockey, lacrosse and other "non-essential" sports will eventually be cut from college athletic department budgets to make room for more money to entice high school and current college athletes to transition/transfer to their program thus eliminating thousands of others to obtain a college education on athletic scholarship and, THAT is the ultimate travesty of this whole NIL mess.....the collateral damage.

Insanely inaccurate or merely insane? He is projected to fall to the top of the second round. $7mm would be well above what he will get from the NBA next year. Which brings up something else I have thought about. NCAA has long bent over backwards to help the NBA draft, giving players a time limit to drop out of the draft and remain eligible for college ball. Wondering if someone will challenge that rule in court. Keeping a player from earning a $7mm NIL because he missed the deadline seems like something the courts would disallow.cowboycwr said:boognish_bear said:This is insanely inaccurate. https://t.co/V57NwxWmuB

Coach Drew, you really should be spending less of your time on free fan blog sites and more on developing a new schtick. JOY no longer has any selling appeal in big boy basketball.Dr. J said:Topics for discussion amongst the NCAA, universities, and the courts:chorne68 said:

1) HARD cap for total NIL payouts for each team/sport (Let's say $50M for football, $20 M basketball, etc., figurative of course). This way each team (that can afford the budget) is on a level playing field.
2) Eliminate "free" transfer rule (the old rule) for those players that receive NIL money and, for those that don't receive NIL money, they can have one time transfer without penalty of sitting out...period. In that transfer year, if you previously received NIL money, you are NOT eligible to receive NIL money as you will not be playing, only going to school (a novel thought) and practice. Stops the merry-go-round of transfers for money and with the hard cap, give the coaches a chance to tout their program and school. For those players that have not received NIL money previously, they can transfer without sitting out a year and can receive NIL money from their new institution.
3) Bring back some of the old rules of payments under the table will result in program punishment. This "may" discourage overzealous boosters.
I am sure there are some other ideas that I can suggest and others may suggest also but, at least this may help to bring the "college" back into college sports.

Historical behaviors? Most NBA players enjoy a nice life after their careers are over. I'm sure a few blew their money, but that's a stereotype that I'm not surprised is thrown around on this message board.

Since you can't do any research....there is an article from August of this year in which John Stockton provided perspective on why 60% of former NBA players are broke just 5 years removed from playing in the league. That number is even worse for the NFL.
So it is real -
