He needed to play with a team that believes in defense. The first 2 that signed him didn't. Nice to see he has found a place to shine.Mitch Blood Green said:
I just saw greatness! Heat win. Mitchell hits three threes in OT and defense.
He's a free agent, so they'll have decide whether or not they want to pay him market rate to re-sign him. Probably $10-12mm annually. I hope he stays with Miami. He could be a Second Team All-Defense type player in their system.EvilTroyAndAbed said:
Hopefully he'll be part of their plans next year. They'll be looking to find another big fish to get better, so I hope he's not part of a trade package.
He's bound to be getting attention. Some NBA execs are watching and wondering, "What's all that stuff he's doing when they don't have the ball?"Mitch Henessey said:He's a free agent, so they'll have decide whether or not they want to pay him market rate to re-sign him. This is big time from @hoopculture13. Another of @BaylorMBB great small guards through the years. @Big12Conference https://t.co/OaIjTFKiio

DAVION MITCHELL just saved the Heat from an embarrassing collapse in a do-or-die in Atlanta. He outclutched and outshot Trae Young in HIS house.

Davion's one of my favorite Baylor players ever. It's cool to see him coming into his own in the NBA after a frustrating start to his career.TWD 1974 said:He needed to play with a team that believes in defense. The first 2 that signed him didn't. One more @hoopculture13 @BaylorMBB @MiamiHEAT note. He is one of 8 players in the league listed at 6 feet or under, including @CP3, Mike Conley, Fred Van Vleet & Jamal Shead who played 46+ games. THAT IS 0.014% of league this year. No one will ever understand the AMOUNT OF WORKโฆ

Davion was as good a defensive pg I have seen at the college level. You can create a short list of the very best, he's on it. You can look a long time before finding someone close to that good again.historian said:
We were so blessed to have "off night" when we did!
I hope we cdd as n continue to recruit players with his defensive skills and mindset.

I'd put him and Jamal Shead near the top, and the crazy thing is both of those guys started the season on the Toronto Raptors this year.TWD 1974 said:Davion was as good a defensive pg I have seen at the college level. I would add that on another thread, there was talk about a prominent guard that wants $4mm, and insists on playing the point (when the pro scouts say he isn't one yet). Mitchell was always the undersized point who was a good defender but didn't have a shot. When Auburn was looking at a bigger pg, he transfers to here. No NIL, sits for a year before he could play, willing to share the pg with Butler. He took the time to work on his shot. Davion made himself into a first round draft pick, with the help of an NC run. If anyone sees a player with that kind of drive and work ethic, let the Coaches know. Scott Drew knows what to do with that.
