Are we the most feeble team in college basketball? For the past 5 years it's been one injury after another. You are allowed 15 paid scholarships in men's college basketball. Maybe it's time to stop loading the end of the bench with walk-ons and pay some guys who can play.

Apparently the issue of caffein was confusing enough that Google tells me (do we trust Google?) that in 2012, the church deemed in necessary to clarify that "hot drinks", defined as tea and coffee were still a bozo no-no, but caffeinated sodas were good to go. So, no cigs, no booze, no coffee, no tea, but an ice cold diet (caffein saturated) Coke or Dr Pepper (?) were just fine.

All I know is that Danny Ainge was completely angrified (I just coined a word) when the fine Baptist folks in Waco sang for his enjoyment "I'd like to buy the world a Coke". It was downright hilarious.

So, our Mormon friends, what does the church (owner of BYU) think about encouraging a young man to breach a contract? I guess winning is really important, so let's encourage young men to breach a contract and not even have the gonads to tell Scott Drew what he's doing. Cool.

This explains why Obi was a complete no-show which cost us the game. If we get the Obi from the past 5 games or so we win this one.

Everybody has to deal with injuries from time to time, but I doubt there is any other P4 school that has been routinely cursed with impactful injuries on an annual basis the way we have since the '21 Natty team (and even with that team we had to sweat out covid issues). Given that record, I agree its imperative to go into the season with a roster that includes more than 8-9 guys who are capable of playing in the B12 beyond just the last trash time minute of blowout games.

It's interesting that the Mormon Church's allowance of soda happened to coincide with their investment in PepsiCo. Surely just a coincidence, though.

BU played BYU in football in Provo during their 1984 national championship season, IIRC, in visiting with some who went to the game, they had available the caffeine free versions of Coke & Diet Coke which had just hit the market. I was expecting the same when I went to a BYU basketball game last year (not against BU, I was in SLC on business), but they had the full panoply of Coke products available.

And BYU is a Coke school; U of Utah carries Pepsi products.

I see you've posted 3 times since joining, and it's all in defense of soda pop & caffeine. Seems like you're on a mission.

Ah, but caffeine? Never banned in Scripture, yet the bane of Mormon cuisine.

I would assume they can, as they have a Costa Vida concession stand at the Marriott Center (sells California style burritos)

I noticed OldBYUfan is all about responding to sodas, but failed to respond to the much more important question about the impact of rich Mormons having their money used to steal a player by offering 2-3 times the money he was going to receive from a SIGNED contract.

I suppose the impact of that on a young man and how it affected his understanding of the term "committed" was not as important as winning basketball games.

So, if you're still out there, we're waiting for your thoughts about that. The player admitted that his contact with BYU was initiated by a BYU coach who knew he had signed with Baylor. Then, to compound his error, the player didn't have the courage (or perhaps wasn't encouraged to do so by the BYU coach) to tell Drew to his face what he had done.

Where in the good book (Bible or Book of Mormon) does it say it's ok to do that? In the chapter on basketball?

We're waiting to hear your thoughts. I wish Baylor had sued his cowardly backside, but Drew was too nice (then, maybe not now)

Almost had a comeback for the ages but it was too little too late. Giving up 99 points at home is sad. Having zero wins over ranked teams this year is sadder.

Unfortunately, I see no reason to expect we will do better vs Louisville, Arizona, or Houston.

Our last chance at an at-large NCAA berth is dead.

There is no realistic path to the tourney this season. In theory, we could win out and maybe get in big no one seriously expects wins over AZ and at Houston. We also could win out at KC and get in but there is no reason to believe that will happen. This year is a bust. Hopefully, Drew can lay the foundation for a good team next year and rebuild it to the level we have come to expect. He's done it before. If the team and staff can gel and learn from mistakes then next season can be much better.

This can't happen again next year. We have 5 years of solid data showing we are an injury prone program, for whatever reason(s). I understand and support why we redshirted two guys this year, but we've gotta get to a point that we have guys at the deep end of the bench who can actually play if called upon.

It's pretty damn frustrating to watch. In both this game and ISU game we were competitive up until about 10 to 12 minutes to go...then we are gassed.

Lack of depth is a killer.

If I was drafting in the NBA, I'd take Dybantsa No. 1. He's the best offensive player I've seen all year.

I have no thoughts other than college sports being a complete mess with the portal and NIL. Lots of schools getting screwed over.

Do you approve of your school screwing others over? It's a pretty straightforward question.

This was so obviously an open-shut case of tampering.

Old BYU guy gives a typical response: Everyone is doing it.

BS. Triple BS.

BYU is owned by the church. Walk the walk.

It's like saying that everyone screws around on their wife, so it must be ok.
