How do Able and Elmer compare? First glance seems like Able has big upside with a ton of room for growth into year 2.

Names to pay attention to:

Dylan Mingo
Matt Able (Wing, NC State)
Eian Elmer (Wing, Miami Ohio)
Mitchell Holmes (Big, SMU)
Justin McBride (Forward, JMU)
Nils Cooper (Guard, UC Davis)
Tylik Weeks (Forward, Southern Miss)

(some a lot less notable than others)

Oh also forgot to mention Chol Machot (Center, Charleston), he is supposed to be on campus for a visit next week

DPOY in his conference, would be a very good get

I think Able is more of a ceiling raiser, I expect him to be a name for the '27 NBA Draft

Elmer is a very respectable 3&D guy though, someone that every team wants, would be thrilled if we landed him

Elmer would be interesting. He went nuts in Miami's play-in game.

Each year I assume a market correction is coming… but the prices only seem to get bigger and bigger

Many of the super-rich man-babies that fund this madness will eventually tire of it because all they are doing is keeping up with the other super rich man-babies' favorite teams. Then most of them will find a new shiny toy, and the players will be paid mostly from TV revenue like the House settlement intended.

Not sure how long this will take though...

Starting to get heavily concerned about our front court next year. One big returning from nerve damage, the other has never played a college game. One wing coming off an ACL injury (and has never played a game in college), the other never having played a college game. And the final wing, an incoming freshman who has never played a college game.

Basically, at the moment, our entire frontcourt consists of a guy who played 2 years in the Big South (and against 2 High Majors in that timespan) and 4 other guys who have never played a game in college. Not many quality High Major level front court players left in the transfer portal either. But, hopefully Drew has some connections with potential foreign frontcourt players who are as good as some in the portal.

Maybe it's still the nerves from us finishing in a tie for 13th place this year, but I'm starting to fear another down year. Talk me off the ledge. Please!

We only play one big in most of our lineups, and Scott Drew's track record developing posts is damn near unmatched.

I'm not too worried there. I think we'll eventually be OK in the frontcourt.

Elmer was more of a wing than a front court guy yeah but CSD and company need to find another body soon

Fingers crossed for Machot at the moment

But traditional threes play power forward for us more often than not.

Either Yessoufou or Skillings was our four in most lineups this past season. I suspect the situation could be similar next year as well.

What's the deal with Tounde? I've read the odds have flipped from probably gone (week or two ago) to over 50% chance he stays (obviously still not a given).

Very true, I'm ready to break that trend though, feels like its been forever since we had multiple guys with size and talent

Don't know anything concrete on him just going off of rumors/vibes but I still expect him not to be on roster next year. I'd be more than happy to be surprised though

I feel great about the Williams / Mingo backcourt. That is all I feel good about right now.

We don't even really recruit power forwards anymore. It's either centers or wing players.
joenatty

I can live with it when we're adding wings with SIZE like Sochan, KB, Mayer, etc. but it feels like we don't even do that anymore. I guess Rataj and Asemota were supposed to change that but they were abysmal

The transfer portal closes at 11:59pm on Tuesday. Hoping for no unpleasant surprises before then.

Whole team except Drew Perry about to hit the portal. Mingo, Decker, and Isaac flip to BYU. Five for five passes and we bring back a three-man roster of Perry, Skillings, and Powell, each earning 4 mil in NIL. All three tear their ACLs.

And Rataj is granted a special exception to play one more year since he never showed up this year....and he does not tear his ACL.

Got some visits lined up, let's see how many the staff can convince to stay in Waco

Gotta get one to commit on their visit eventually, think we've swung and missed every time so far this portal cycle lol

any news on how they're going or went?
joenatty
How long do you want to ignore this user?
- Obviously struck out on Eian Elmer after having him on campus
- Evan Chatman (Big, UAB) visited yesterday, no commit, we'll see how it plays out. Syracuse, Tulsa, Seton Hall are other teams pushing for him
- Isaac Celiscar (Wing, Yale) is on campus now, Kentucky is trying to make a push so ideally we can land a commit before he leaves Waco
- Chol Machot (Center, Charleston) should be visiting on Thursday

Other notable names:
- Matt Able (Wing, NC State) looks like hes going to UNC
- Sebastian Williams-Adams (Forward, Auburn) entered the portal, Baylor offered him as a recruit last year
- Baylor contacted Ring Nyeri (Forward, Northern Colorado)

Not great. Hopefully one of the more proven role players will commit. Mingo was a strong pickup and the 3 pt shooting 6th man (hopefully) is a good idea.

But unless Tounde is retained, this is looking questionable. Still have some patience to see things play out.
joenatty
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I still think staff needs to add at least 2 starting caliber players. This is how I view the roster at this moment:

PG: Kayden Mingo
G:
G/W:
W/F:
C: Juslin Bodo Bodo

6th: Isaac Williams IV
7th: Elijah Williams
8th: Maikcol Perez
9th: Brett Decker Jr.
10th: Mayo Soyoye/Andre Iguodala II

You could bump up one of the bench guys into a starting spot but everyone outside of IW4 is so unproven, just not sure if I'm comfortable with more than that

Elijah and Issac are totally worthy of big 12 starters.

We still might have tounde return and are in the mix for a couple more. Just have to be patient

Capable starters, but I think they're both better suited off the bench. Like I said, a guy could move into the starting lineup and I wouldn't mind

Assume this is a hedge move. Tounde seems to be holding in the back end of the first round. That said, never underestimate the NIL$ our western rivals will offer for our players...

Grossly underestimating Williams. Full offseason ahead of him after being one of best athletes in the big 12.

All good. The rosters of Florida, Duke, Michigan, and Illinois are just going to be so much better than everyone else so might not matter.

Unfortunate from the conference perspective as most of the rosters in our league are underwhelming so far. Still a shot this is a move to cover all his bases but not looking great
