Best of luck to Tounde. I could be way off but I think he's going to flame out real quick. His skillsets a dime a dozen. Won't be able to get by on athleticism in the league

Yep. I actually think this is the best thing for us as Drew and staff recruit the portal. Not many really good players coming out of the portal want to sign with a school that already has someone in the same starting spot for which their skills are primarily designed. With Tounde declaring for the draft and not also entering the portal, it appears on the surface he is steadfast for the draft. That should give Drew and staff a leg up on selling the vision of a starting position.

I really want Tounde to succeed and hope he proves me wrong, but I have a really bad Quincy Miller feeling with this one.

Edited to add: Quincy Miller feeling meaning he really could have used a year or two more in college to help improve a few areas of his game.

Yeah I just don't see an NBA player. I'm wrong plenty so maybe he surprises me.

It seems to me he's way too inefficient offensively and inconsistent defensively to play in the league for a while. Who knows how quickly he will develop. At 6 4 he really needs to be able to shoot the three at reasonably high clip to play in NBA or he won't be able to get points --- being good in transition probably not enough. He gets points in college by posting up smaller guards but those guys don't exist in the NBA. And he's too inefficient from 3 to jack those up in the NBA.

I think in a year or two he could improve enough to become a role player if everything breaks right and he works his ass off. Probably would easier and make more money to stay in college.

But I'm actually betting he doesn't get drafted and then just transfers.

He'd have been much better off doing the latter. He needs more seasoning.

It's a shame that those around him won't tell him the truth.

I'll be surprised if he cracks the first round.

I just don't see how a player who can't dribble, isn't a particularly good passer and shoots 29 percent from 3 in college makes it as a shooting guard in the NBA.

He has gaping holes in his game that need to be addressed. And they'll likely go unaddressed in an environment where -- as a late first-round or second-round pick -- your drafting team doesn't even care if you pan or not because they can just replace you in the next year's draft.

The NBA isn't the place to develop. And the G League is an absolute joke. If you're going to make in the league, you need to arrive there with the skills to succeed because no one but you is really invested in developing the skills you don't have.

He was scheduled to start in the middle for TCU this year before the injury.

Duke is paying $7M for a transfer. This can't be where we are headed for college basketball..

Agents have too much sway in the portal. They get a payday no matter how a player is affected adversely. Bouncing from coach to coach can't be all that great for NBA options. Bouncing from team to team certainly isn't endearing to any college coaches, AD's, or boosters.

Tounde could certainly enter the portal at a later date, but what him declaring and not entering the portal tells me is that if he doesn't like his draft projections, he can withdraw from the draft and return to Baylor. Surprised no one seems to be considering this as a possibility.

Definitely a possibility. However, Drew has repeatedly said he's not making the same mistakes as last year and take too long to fill out his roster, thereby missing on some of the better players. No question Drew could hold a spot when we have a 15 man roster. But not sure how much money is gonna be left by the time Tounde gets to the withdrawal point. Drew's comments, competitive nature and desire to turn this ship around don't sound like he wants to set aside a couple of million and then miss out on guys who are known factors now. Sounds like he has a boosted NIL budget (Ashley just got through saying on Matt Mosely's podcast that it's likely Top 20 and at worst Top 30) and he wants to make sure he has a complete roster.

For anyone interested (and since he was a Big 12 transfer), PJ Haggerty of Kansas St just signed with Texas A&M.

There will either be major guardrails set up in the next 1-2 years or the bubble will eventually burst.

Or this is the way it'll be forever.

Kentucky rumored to be putting together a $6 million to $7 million package to entice him out of the draft.

I think he ends up back with us. He should find out how he is viewed by the league so he can improve his future prospects.
