In just her 2nd year re-establishing LSU's WBB program, Kim has LSU at #3 in the Nation with a 19-0 record. #1 and #2 also are 19-0. Boy, I'm sure glad that troublemaking drama is gone.

LSU...best team $$$ can buy !!!

LOYALTY! Much to KM's credit and also her fault, loyalty is paramount in her DNA. LA Tech and now Baylor can only see what they had and what left, is gone never to return. Where is LA Tech in the BB world? Take a long breath and view the future because this is where BU is and heading.

Baylor. Is. A. "Destination". Job. Sigh…

Again, living through a really nice coach who is the wrong person for the job.

Team design issues
Recruiting issues for 2023-24
Defensive issues
Offensive issues

Yeah, not a coaching issue?????

Why and how did that happen when it wasn't like that 2 to 3 years ago?

Just guessing: It happened because Kim outlined what she'd need to make the LSU WBB program successful, it was provided; Kim produced as expected.

Anybody know what the recruiting budget might be for Nicki?

I'd suggest everybody watch a recent post-game video of Kim. She looks happy and healthy, no more black circles under her eyes, and she seems to very much enjoy talking to media about various players. Why can we all not be happy for Kim Mulkey? She is exactly where she is needed and where she wants to be.

Meanwhile, it seems your only intent on this forum is to whine and gripe and bash OUR Coach. But no matter - I so very much enjoyed blocking your posts.

All Mack had to do was open the checkbook a little bit more for the AZ coach, it was a reason why she got multiple pay raises in that span of time that she did, but I'll let some here tell me a woman with a negative WNBA record, and no college experience was the first option…Ha

I don't think Barnes at AZ was affordable. But, several others were.

Most definitely was a affordable, AZ just kept outbidding and Mack stopped.

Most think she just played Baylor to get AZ to pay more and they did. $2.9M plus. I don't blame MR for bowing out of that one.

What was the length on this contract for Barnes? I thought I had read that she was somewhere in the neighborhood of $1.2M per year.

So anyone figured out how much we paying CNC? Surely someone looked at tax return and figured it out?

That does not sound right on salary for Barnes? Way to high would make her highest paid I am thinking maybe just over a million?

The same posters who are griping about CNC were some of the same posters whom griped about CKM whenever she lost a game or was outed in the NCAAs earlier then expected. Some people just can't ever be happy or positive. They have the dark cloud above their heads all the time.

Obviously this could be wrong but ....

Cut and paste:

Barnes would get a tidy sum of $2,930,000 from Arizona, which ranks behind Rueck and first-year Washington head coach Tina Langley. The highest-paid public school coach in the country is Connecticut's Geno Auriemma, who makes $2,900,000 per year according to USA TODAY Mar 12, 2022

Five year contract. Could be total if all bonuses are collected

That has to be total money....We went from paying Kim over 2 million a year to likely paying CNC what 600,000 a year? I would think that is over 3 years but could be 5 ? she may have other funds from sources outside of the university itself money from a show or boosters.

Barnes has a five year contract....I doubt it would be $500k per year plus bonuses BUT coaching contracts are insanely written. If isbis $2.9 that would have to be potential with a lot of bonuses. Schools that openly publish salaries do tend to push the amount.

OK not great at linking stuff but if you google WBB coaching salaries. you find a May of 2022 article USA Today..11 highest paid WBB coaches and Barnes checks in at 11 just over 1 million a year supposedly at that time there were only 11 coaches making over 1 million per year. Geno, Dawn and Kim were top three Kim 2.6 Dawn 2.7 Geno 2.9

I remember at the time of hire most folks thinking Adi Barnes not the right culture fit, and she was just using potential of taking BU job to get her contract up over a million.

I am curious what CNC is making and while it is likely good money Mack did not go all out to pay big bucks to get in someone with a proven record....and I am not trying to be critical it is what it is....if and I hope she does CNC works out she will get raises and Mack will look like a genius. Unfortunately, right now the comparisons for where BU and LSU are right now after what almost 2 years is evidence of you get what you pay for. Again, not wanting to be overly critical but the comparisons are right there in front of us. The state of the two programs when they both came in was completely reversed. LSU was a dumpster fire and BU was a dynasty.

I starred your post but would also just add some balance Kim had her detractors while here not the least of which were a bunch of football only or men's sports only Neanderthals who were not accepting of her willingness to fight for her program equality. Those same critics perceive CNC as a team player or someone who won't make waves and be thankful for whatever she given instead of pushing for more those guys are not Her friends or supporters of BU WBB they are happy the Queen and her salary costs and push for WBB is gone. Everyone has their critics on Sports boards it's what fans do.

All I am saying is coach Bill Brock is 17-2 and already has fully revamped the MCC women's ball team, I personally feel we'd be atop the big12 had we retained him as HC.
Nicki seems like a nice person and does what she can to make people happy, sure a lot of us like her as a person- but I am not impressed with her coaching or discipline at all thus far, I do not think she is fit for a school that wants to win more championships, she is not a bad coach but she is fit more for a school that is comfortable with being an average to slightly above average consistently.

I agreed. Extremely disappointed with her discipline and control of her team. Coaches have to be supportive but not the player's best friend. College is not the WNBA. I want her to succeed, but I used to schedule my life around games. Now I would rather do just about anything than watch a game. It's just not fun to see stellar talent not perform. Hope she gets a hold of the situation, but I fear a new coach will be required in the next 24 months. Assuming Baylor cares enough to win.

Happens all the time. Wrong coach is hired. From the outside she looks to be a wrong fit. Team design, Team execution, in game adjustments, etc. it looks just wrong.

Keep waiting as she nose dives the program. 1 36 ranked post coming in in next years recruiting haul.

How about a wing that can shoot. How about on ball defenders. How about a point. I know a lot of time.

Oh well, we are stuck. Thanks for a great hire Mack.

Bingo. It wasn't hard for AZ to outbid a guy who didn't want to bid much in the first place lol.

Kim may have been a pain, but she was a legendary Top 3 coach in WBB, you just don't let that walk and not hire a proven back up.

If Scott Drew were to ever leave, I'd bet my LIFE, we go after a proven guy who will keep the train rolling in all aspects.

I have hope that NC can do so, im not on the train of fire her, I just continue to hold true to the fact that we could've gotten better and wouldn't have to kinda go through the growing pains of a coach who in my opinion didn't have the true credentials outside of knowing the game of basketball really well.

Also, NC won't be on the hot seat. If we're in the same boat 2 years from now, maybe so, but I don't see it anytime soon.

Unless it's a mutual split, in which I could see something of that sort happening.

Personally I don't see a coach like her wanting to make Waco her own, especially if her kids and husband can't/haven't.

People drooled over the fact that her game-plan was to bring a modern day play style to college. I like to describe it as the Golden State Warriors playbook.

Little did she know, the college game is STILL post play dominated. If you don't have a true inside presence who can play both ends, you're not going to go far.

Two of her kids are graduating this year and from what I understand her son is looking at Baylor . I think her other is 16 or 17 so she will not be home long either.

This thread wouldn't go well on the premium side.

I really like Nikki and wish the best for her. Anyone who came after CKM would not live up to her record. Many Baylor fans thought it would be easy to replace CKM bc we have been successful so long. They don't understand how hard it is to build and sustain a winning program.
Bear3
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yes, Any new coach should be given 3-4 years to implement their system and get their own recruits before being on hot seat.

Also the fact is that if we could play a 100% healthy Ajiah Blackwell, this would be a very different team this year. Her last year at Missouri she averaged 15 points and 13 rebounds per game. She was 2nd in rebounds in country last year. Nicki was counting on her for inside help under basket and rebounding.

Also as you mentioned, I do not care who we hire, unless it is Tara, Geno or Dawn, they are not going to come in here and immediately maintain the program Kim had when she left. That is totally unrealistic.

I agree with everything, except that last part. Baylor has history in WBB, it's not like we were a team that was mediocre throughout the years. The Baylor job in WBB was for sure a Top 5 job, it just depended on how much we were willing to pay to fill it.

Mack chose the route of Low Risk-High Reward, which I could respect in a way, since both Football and MBB were on the rise.
