PREVIEW: No. 19 Baylor Women's Basketball vs. Southern

November 4, 2023
5,965

The No. 19 Baylor Bears are set to host Southern on Monday night at 7:00 p.m. in the Ferrell Center.

This will be the first of just seven home games (excluding the exhibition against Harden-Simmons) to be hosted in the Ferrell Center this year. The remainder of the schedule will be played in the new Foster Pavilion, set to open on January 2, 2024, when the Men’s team hosts Cornell. The Women’s team will play their Foster opener the following night, January 3, 2024, at 7:00 p.m., where they will open up conference play against TCU.

Monday night will mark the third meeting between the Bears and Southern; BU leads the series 2-0, with both wins taking place in the Ferrell Center. The last meeting occurred on December 16, 2020, where Baylor won 86-52. This will be the first time BU will face Southern in the Collen era.

Baylor will likely look to sophomore guard/forward Darianna Littlepage-Buggs as she led the Bears in scoring Friday night in their exhibition against HSU. Littlepage-Buggs put up 21 points for BU, with 12 points in the third quarter alone.

PLAYERS TO WATCH:

Baylor Athletics
  • Senior guard Sarah Andrews
    • Will be playing restricted minutes due to an injury to begin the season
    • Unanimous preseason All-Big 12
    • Only BU player with more than two years in the green & gold
    • 11 points shy of 1,000 career points, we can expect to see this achievement in the first few games

Baylor Athletics
  • Sophomore guard/forward Darianna Littlepage-Buggs
    • Led the team in double-doubles last year with 14
    • Was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week a league-high eight times last year

Baylor Athletics
  • Graduate forward Dre’una Edwards
    • Had to sit out last year due to the 4-4-4 transfer rule
    • Expected to be a significant contributor for the Bears this season

Anyone BU fan interested in two free tickets plus parking pass to WBB game Monday night vs Southern? Got some floor seats offered to us so our tickets behind home goal (section 108 aisle seats 2 rows from bottom) are available.

Actually nice seats. Can hear bench and team communication under that goal.

First request gets them.

She doesn't have any injuries, shes fully recovered now but shes on a minutes restriction because she just started practicing with the team, and they don't want to just throw her right back in going full on, so they have her on minutes restriction.
