Blue eyed pissed her off.
the IU player got hurt at the buzzer...did not see anything regarding injury to Queen other that she did block the shot of the IU player who got hurt.whitetrash said:

That is a strong team CMK has there that can win with Smith playing below her usual level and LC injured.Eball said:
Queen 14 and 14 she was a beast on the boards down the stretch...we trailed in rebounding as a team all game long until Queen took over. we wound up out rebounding them 38-36
Cooper was money from the FT line as they had to foul and hit a late 3 17 pts but also 9 assists
Juicy had 10 but 9 rebounds 4 assists and just 1 TO
DiDi led the team in scoring with 20 points to go with 6 assists
Bickle off the bench with a spark 9 points5 rebounds and 2 assists...
Smith struggled 5 points 2 rebounds and foul trouble...hopefully she will bounce back....
DeGrate played meaningful minutes with the foul trouble just could not finish 1-6 shooting all her misses were from point blank range.
Great grit and effort good game....
FRAME THIS ONE TOOGrizBear said:blueeyedbear said:I coached AAU ball for 22 years - I always looked past the stats and watched what actually happened on the court - that is the real indicator of how well a player is performing. Just how did they acquire those stats was my first analysis. I see two problems as plain as the nose on my face.Eball said:One other point before I sign off after a great Thanksgiving day! IU got pounded on the glass by USC tonight...USC had 20 OR...they still got beat by 14 points...Good Night Happy Thanksgiving to you all and see you tomorrow as we sic IU!blueeyedbear said:All of you gloss over stats that are deceiving and you miss the big picture - Opposing coaches are going to see her tendencies on film and are going to exploit them. I am talking about fundamental basketball skills that she never acquired because in High School she did not have to fight for position or learn how to block out because her God given talent was so superior to the competition.Malbec said:We only gave up 4 Second Chance Points. 4. They got a total of 7 offensive rebounds, 4 of which came on missed 3 point shots. You are complaining about exceptions, not norms.blueeyedbear said:I restate what I said - I do not care if she scores double digit points - she is giving up offensive rebounds that turn into easy put back points for the opposition - that's a 4 point possession swing - two points they get because of an extra passion that should not have happened and two points we did not get with a defensive rebound and a good outlet pass to a scoring transition.Malbec said:
Queen had the highest efficiency rating on the court today for both teams at 19.0.
You can not do that against Oregon, Oregon State, U Conn etc. and win..... ask Oklahoma State - take away the second chance points Oregon got off of missed 3's and its a whole different ball game !!
You think Big 12 coaches, Geno or Pac 12 coaches are not going to see what I am talking about and not exploit it ????
Its a weakness in her game that needs to be corrected now not at conference/ncaa tournament time - that's all I am saying. We will see what happens tomorrow with Indiana.
Not blocking out, not positioning yourself properly on the defensive end, not properly positioning yourself to receive an easy entry pass and careless outlet passes are issues that if not ID early and fixed will lose games against the better teams we will see later.
Do not misunderstand me - I love Queens talent - her upside is unlimited !! - She is a very nice young lady and that might be part of the problem - If she had the edginess that LC has - WOW. I think acquiring a bit of an attitude (I mean that in a good way) would solve a lot of the issues I am identifying.
Secondly I have been a vocal critic for years of the defensive strategy of dropping off of 3 pt. shooters to help the posts on drives to the basket. CKM never played when the 3 ball was allowed and I say with all due respect to her incredible coaching record - she still does not respect how the 3 ball has changed the women's game. Not even after Louisville, Texas A&M, West Virginia, Oregon State etc. Its only one point more but its the emotional momentum changer that is a bigger factor then it ought to be. You just cant leave 40.0%+ 3 ball shooters alone on the perimeter in todays game - I understand the percentages CKM is calculating but women have made tremendous advances in long range shooting over the years. You just can't leave good shooters anymore - you do so at your peril. The posts are just going to have to play better defense.
In last years final 4 we stayed with the 3 Pt. shooters (Sabrina & Mayberry) and it worked out pretty well for us. Why have we gone back to the old philosophy that has led to underperforming in tournament time ???
Word of caution this Indiana team is for real - Thats a very good coach with a lot of underappreciated, un recognized talent and heart at her disposal She is going to drive the paint on us and do the same thing they did to USC - try to get us into foul trouble because she sees the same thing I do - out of position posts that are slow to help with a lot of reaching for blocks because they are out of position = FOULS. Its basically 4 guards that are quick and can handle the ball and have no fear driving into the paint for layups or kicking it out to unguarded 3 ballers.
This Indiana team is going to be a very good test !!!! They are better then their ranking !!!
I am sure CKM sees the danger they present and will have a good game plan in place - its going to be interesting.
Oh great, the world needs another former AAU coach who knows more about winning women's basketball games than Kim Mulkey.
I was not the only one she heard it from ! Salutations from the islandswhitetrash said:Malbec said:

The final score is misleading., This was a close, gritty game and a very good win for the Lady Bears. Missing Cox and with NaLyssa and DeGrate having off days, others had to step up. Egbo had a slow start but once she got into a rhythm, the game slowed down for her and she came into her own. She was very active, as she must be if Baylor is going to continue to be an elite team in the women's game. When Cox returns, Egbo should still thrive in the high/low post offense that Baylor uses, and the rebounding will be closer to the norm of the past few years.
Cooper impressed me today. She was not particularly noticeable in the first half, and her statistics support the notion that she was not making too great an impact on the game. In the last 1:11 she put eight points on the board and the Indiana team wilted under the pressure that Te'a, Didi, and Queen brought to bear. It is the mark of an outstanding player when they break out of a so-so performance and become dominant. It also reassures the team that they have leadership when it is most needed. Good for Te'a......

We contested every shot from the perimeter - we did not sag off to help on the drives to the basket and Indiana stopped driving to the basket. It was a different defensive game plan then we have been playing in the previous games and it worked just like it did against Oregon and Notre Dame last year.Baylor Dad in Va. said:
How about those Lady Bears!! Yes, we come come on here and quibble amongst ourselves about a few imperfections but when it goes down to game time we are WINNERS! Egbo was great in my eyes tonight. Bickle stepped up BIG. Didi was simply outstanding. And Te'a and Juicy showed the senior leadership that leaders do!
When we can win against one of the better teams in the country without Lauren, and with Smith having the worst game of her career at Baylor that is a darn good team!!
And I don't want to hear about how Kim doesn't recognize this, or that. Kim knows how to coach her team. Defense is the most important factor for her and she teaches it the best of anyone in the country! Go Bears! We want to win it all once again!
