The biggest problem on that play was neither player could hear the other calling for the ball. We are lucky there was a catch made, and luckier that one or both weren't carted off with injuries.D. C. Bear said:
I'll not wade through the pissing match to see if anyone commented on it, but did anyone else think that Marwin had a pretty routine catch lined up before Springer went all Superman on the play?
Typically, at least everywhere I played and or watched, the priorities for a fly ball start with the center fielder having complete control over everyone on the field and then moving in. The catch was Springer's to make and he should have called off the RF if he did not. The RF never calls off the CF in almost all cases.Nguyen One Soon said:The biggest problem on that play was neither player could hear the other calling for the ball. So? As I said, it was Springer's, the CF, to make the play or not. He should have communicated with Marwin to move away.GoldMind said:mmodine said:Typically, at least everywhere I played and or watched, the priorities for a fly ball start with the center fielder having complete control over everyone on the field and then moving in. Sept Marwin plays LF
Watched the replay, not hard to read Springer yelling "I got it! I got it! I got it!" as he came over.mmodine said:So? As I said, it was Springer's, the CF, to make the play or not. Looks like the Astros may be the first franchise to have won both the NL and AL pennants.
It's hard to tell with the way organizations bounced around at the turn of the 20th century, but I can't find where one organization won the pennant. Several cities are home to both AL & NL pennants but with different franchises.
The Brewers are the only organization that came close to doing it, winning the 1982 AL Pennant and came close to winning the NL Pennant in 2011, which they lost to the Cardinals.
There was an organization known as the "Baltimore Orioles" that won the NL in 1894, 1895 and 1896, but they were a separate organization from the AL club that came about much later.

Just an incredible Game 7. I went with my 12-year-old daughter, my Dad, and my father-in-law. My daughter now has a life long memory of the Astros winning a championship. I may have brainwashed her for life.
But it was so fun all night. I was in the building for Game 5 of the 2004 NLCS (the Pujols game) where the pennant slipped through our fingers. 12 years of "what ifs" are now somewhat easier to palate. All the Astros playoff games I've been to since 1997 have been fun, some more than others, but Game 7 is now #1 on my all time in person ranking in any sport, overtaking the Jeff Kent walk-off game in 2004 NLCS and 61-58 Baylor over TCU.
I can't wait for the World Series. I can't wait to see Altuve and Correa and Gurriel crush baseballs. I can't wait to see what Justin Verlander can do next.
I can't wait.

The only problem is that I am a huge Rangers fan. That's not to say that I wasn't an Astro's fan growing up. The Rangers were my American League team and the Astros were my National League team. I was hoping beyond hope for a Rangers-Astros Texas World Series just a few years ago.slimecap said:Yogi, Appreciate your research very much!Yogi said:

Your post inspired a google moment for me
Astros: Historic AL / NL double
"In beating the Yankees in Saturday night's Game 7 of the ALCS, the Astros made history: They're the first team to advance to the World Series as members of both the National and American leagues.
You can thank Bud Selig, Drayton McLane and Jim Crane for that fun fact. McLane was the Astros' owner when they claimed the 2005 NL wild card and made it all the way to the Fall Classic, surviving an Albert Pujols moon shot in Game 5 of the NLCS to win the pennant. They were swept in four games by the Chicago White Sox, however.
By 2011, McLane was ready to sell the team, and Houston businessman Jim Crane purchased it for $680 million. But MLB's approval of the sale was contingent on the Astros moving from the NL to the AL, creating two 15-team leagues.
Crane agreed, but managed to strong-arm a discount out of the deal, as the sale price was cut to $615 million with the Astros suddenly in an AL West filled with undesirable start times for intra-division road games.
Six years later, the Astros are kings of the West - and the AL."

I was unsure what you were fixing in my post. I was talking about how Saturday night was the first time Astros fans went to a home game looking for a pennant since the Pujols game. I wasn't talking about the White Sox.
It looked like you thought the Pujols game happened in 2004. My mistake if that's not what you were implying.
