I'm a little surprised by our recruiting given our improvements & trending under Coach Rodriguez.
Coach Rod is successful, sharp & affable. His players appear to respect him and love to play for him.
I was expecting (at least) a top 20 class. (And, current rankings for next year (it's a little early, but...) are even more disconcerting.
What gives?!
11.7 scholarships makes coming to Baylor very expensive for a Baseball player especially if they have other options and not pretty well to do parents.
This right here. Baseball has some unique recruiting challenges like this because of the limited scholarships. That hasn't necessarily held back the success of private schools over the years like us, Rice, TCU, Vandy, etc. but it does provide some obstacles. Because youth baseball in the U.S. has trended towards the high dollar travel teams, you often can find good players from well off families these days but those families still would rather pay state tuition.
Does anyone know what the rules are on academic scholarships? I would assume a player could tack on $100K academic scholarship to Baylor on top of their partial baseball scholarship, but I'm not sure.
