Our school district has a policeman at each school. They implemented this in reaction Sandy Hook years ago. And guess what, no school shootings at any school in this district. The politicians in DC always have a back and forth but their solutions are all talk. They aren't on the local level and their solutions (and talk) won't solve anything.

If you think having a policeman at each school in your district is why there haven't been any shootings, I think you are mistaken. It's certainly possible that has helped, but the fact that there hasn't been a shooting is more likely due to the law of averages than anything else. Your line of thinking is along the lines of schools are "gun free zones"…that makes no difference whatsoever on whether or not a shooting will take place.

There is a reason these nutballs go to unguarded places. So I'm going to disagree with you. And I'm not for gun free zones at all. You need guns in the hands of good guys like police. Licensed gun holders/police.

There was a law enforcement officer at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School when it was shot up. While a good start, I suppose, it wasn't enough to save 17 lives that time.

In addition to other things, how about enough cameras to cover the school and a dedicated observer of said cameras.
Our vibrations were getting nasty. But why? I was puzzled, frustrated... Had we deteriorated to the level of dumb beasts?

Scot Peterson stood outside the building being shot up for 45 mins. That's not how you save lives.

A vast majority of schools in America do not have armed security and the vast majority of school have never had a shooting on campus.

Armed policeman might discourage some attacks. Metal detectors might deter a few but both are expensive options. The only school shooting I have seen was a suicide where a kid brought his mothers pistol and offed himself between the gym and and my office. Metal detectors or police wouldnt have mattered because he was outside.

Theres no answer. Some guns should not be available. As long as we are a culture that glorifies guns we will have them. I dont think most people need them and the thought of a bunch of guys walking around armed all the time scares me. Except for Pecos.

I think we potentially could solve a lot of societal ills from school shootings to homelessness if we got comfortable with both compassionate mental health and forced committal in certain situations.

My biggest problem is with how this guy got into the school to begin with. My wife is a teacher in an elementary school in Waco and it is very hard to breech entry into the building. There is one door in with another set of magnetically sealed doors beyond that. They have no security guard. The kids and teachers are very safe from unwanted outsiders.

Being a smaller town has a lot to do with it. I would assume.

This isn't a good example. The officer stood down and didn't do their job.

The Parkland shooter should have never been on campus. There were multiple red flags sent to the FBI and local police departments and they just got passed down the line.

Because that stuff is foreseeable and happens more than just there.

No answer? Their are plenty of answers to make things safer. And if you look at the stats of those that are either officers or have a gun license, their stats of contributing to violence are very very low. Why would you be scared if their are guns in the hands of the good guys? Are you one of those defund the police kind of guys? Are you moving to a town where the police have been defunded? That sounds like a good plan.

Return the number of beds in state operated mental health facilities to 1960s levels. Then double the amount to accommodate population growth.

Return the standards for Involuntary Commitment [mental health] to 1960s levels and kick the mental health experts who forced the current standards straight in the heads.

Reform juvenile lockup to enforce massive behavioral changes.

Wipe out illegal drug use. Eliminate the ability of Big Pharm to push mood altering drugs.

Strip the hard left of citizenship and deport them.

So you asked a question and didt like my answer. What did my answer have to do with defunding the police? I live in a town with a pretty high police presence.

Your own question was not how do we make schools safer. It was how do we stop school shootings. Police presence doesnt always work. The reason fat retired police are hired is because of money. Hiring top notch policeman away from cities would be costly. The richer school districts might be able to afford them. Schools like Uvalde probably not. Not all schools have the money SLC and some of the other rich suburb schools north of Dallas have.

Armed security at school. Doors locked. Metal
Detectors. Access to the school makes it such an easy target. Currently guns are banned and many schools have no security and doors are left unlocked all day.

Also, schools need to take threats much more serious and teach students and teachers what to look for.

There will always be bad guy with access to guns. Open borders doesn't help.

Also strange how active shootings have gone up 50% in 1 year.

All the political division, 24/7 negative news, extremes at both ends taking hold of each party, more access to drugs, guns, less care for human life, less religion, more **** on the Internet to warp your mind, social media, less family with mom and dad at home….all this comes together to really screw us up.

A student told some kid on Snapchat he was going to shoot up my child's middle school.

The Sheriff's office was tipped off and the next day there were 12 officers on campus. It's hard to know how serious he meant it but this is one thing you can't under act on.

In SO many of these cases there are red flags - usually on social media.
