If it had been Putin's intention to take Kiev, it would have happened.

Quote:

Ukraine was neutral as a deliberate policy before being invaded (twice), the US/Europe were even extremely reluctant to supply Ukraine with useful military aid packages out of deference for Russia. That's over now, because it is abundantly clear that Russia's word isn't worth the hot air they spent to give it.

Nonsense. We sponsored a coup there in Maidan. NATO membership for Ukraine has been a constant Democrat/Neocon talking point.

Some people act like Vladimir Putin woke up one morning in 2022 and decided to invade Ukraine for no reason. Whatever you think about him, he isn't an irrational risk taker.

It was his intention. Russia already had the propaganda written about it. They literally invaded the city -- dropping paratroopers in. They had a 35 mile convoy headed into the city. How ****ing stupid can you be?

Shooting the messenger is not the way to win a point. The guy is a retired US Army Colonel and a veteran Iraq commander. Specifically, which of his points do you disagree with?

There's like 10 retired US Army Generals that comment on the situation all the time. I tend to listen to generals' assessments over a Colonel. Not to mention that Gen. mark Hertling was in charge of European command and has done/observed joint training sessions with both the Russian and Ukrainian military. He's actually been there and done that. He knows the nature of both militaries and countries. Meanwhile, MacGregor has been ostracized and is openly and outwardly a Putin fan, and only has a voice now because Fox decided it would be a good idea to trot his ideas out to public. How Bad Is It For Ukraine?
2 September 2023
By Larry Johnson

Polish volunteer Slawomir Wysocki traveled to Ukraine, returned home and in an interview for the media told what is really happening with the counter-offensive, which is so publicized by the Ukrainian authorities.

"The human losses of the Ukrainian side are huge. Western equipment is burning like matches. Things are much worse than is commonly imagined. I counted the graves in Lviv. In the old part of the cemetery there are about 100 graves, in the new part there are more than 600.

In the villages this proportion is colossally different. When I drive by, I see cemeteries along the streets. Each has up to a dozen new graves. There are flags near each one, they are easy to recognize. There are more than two thousand graves in Kharkov. It is impossible to hide these losses.

Two months ago I was full of optimism about Kupyansk. Now we are still managing to hold our ground. It seems that the Russians are doing everything they can to reach Kupyansk, where they will take their positions for the spring offensive."

When asked by a journalist how Ukrainians feel about the Russian defense system, the Pole said:

"They are terrified. They know that the Russian army has already foreseen everything. The defense system was built by construction companies. This is not a peasant waving a shovel to build a trench. Companies came in, poured concrete, made fortifications in the style of the Maginot Line. And there are three or four such lines. Ukrainians say that there are five mines per square meter. You can't put your foot on the ground without one of them exploding".

The journalist further asks, with this situation on the front and the growing losses, are there still people willing to fight? The volunteer replies:

"There are no willing ones. They are looking for them on the streets. In Lviv there are "round-ups", people are taken from construction sites, from bars. Recently I witnessed such a situation at the bus station in Lvov. Five policemen stood and checked everyone who wanted to leave Lvov.

Eight people were detained in this way. Many reasons for the current situation with mobilization originate in Bakhmut. It was such a plum, such a meat grinder that there was no one left to fight".

MacGregor also predicted full Russian victory (including Kyiv) within 2-3 hours and made a similar prediction months later. He also has made up lies about Zelensky leaving Ukraine when Russia invaded, Russia's "success," and many other whoppers.

You'll listen to whatever confirms your bias.

McGregor's predictions and assessments have been objectively wrong from the start, and always slanted in Russia's favor. Multiple times he said Russia was just days away from victory, which was wrong, and his assessment of Russian strategy being limited to just the eastbound Ukraine were already proven wrong by events on the ground before he even said it. No US military figure appearing on RT should be assigned any real credibility.

Just right off the top, the assessment that Russia's original strategy was to take Just Donetsk and Luhansk and then press for neutrality is laughably wrong. If that were true, then why did they rush for Kyiv and Karkhiv? Why is their main axis of advance happening up in Karkhiv right now? Ukraine was neutral as a deliberate policy before being invaded (twice), the US/Europe were even extremely reluctant to supply Ukraine with useful military aid packages out of deference for Russia. That's over now, because it is abundantly clear that Russia's word isn't worth the hot air they spent to give it.

McGregor is consistently pro Russian in his views, and a regular guest on RT, so it shouldn't be a surprise that he is advancing their narratives for them still.
McGregor is simple to understand. Odds are more likely, for reasons pf policy expediency rather than military conditions, that the outcome would be a settlement short of the Uke goal of total expulsion of Russian forces. So, when it's all over, his predictions will be easily spun as prescient. He will be lionized by many as a genius. Sell lots of books. Get paid to make a lot of speeches. Build a large Twitter following to monetize. Perhaps get an endowed seat in a think-tank somewhere. If not here, then abroad. It's a sound business model. Like the guy who always predicts a market crash. Every few years, a correction will be big enough for make him look like a genius.

Nonsense. We sponsored a coup there in Maidan. NATO membership for Ukraine has been a constant Democrat/Neocon talking point.

https://rumble.com/vwxxi8-ukraine-on-fire.html

Some people act like Vladimir Putin woke up one morning in 2022 and decided to invade Ukraine for no reason. Whatever you think about him, he isn't an irrational risk taker.
That in bold is BS. We did not sponsor a coup. The Ukrainian President, who had campaigned promising to support Ukrainian membership in EU, refused at the last minute to sign the EU deal passed overwhelmingly by the Ukrainian congress and instead sign a similar pact with Russia. A massive popular uprising ensued immediately and lasted for days, which cause him to flee the country.

Further....TALKING POINTS are just that. talking points. Talking about joining NATO does not equal Nato Membership. Ukraine was still neutral at the moment Russia invaded. Had not even applied for membership.

The premise of your entire argument is not just faulty, it is at odds with clear facts of history.

I agree with that…

And I appreciate the analysis instead of just calling him a Russian troll (the standard insult these days).

I do think he is taking the easy way out in his predictions than giving us real insight.

His predictions for this war at the beginning have turned out to be very wrong and he constantly over estimates Russian military ability.

In his world Russia is always about to turn its economy to a war footing and begin producing overwhelming military equipment and new Russian troops are gonna launch a counter offensive that smashes the Ukrainians in mere weeks….instead nothing happens and the Russian conscripts just keep digging more trench lines and Russia keeps relying on China and Iran for ammo and drones.

yep. And Ukraine is bringing on-line new domestic production of ammunition, advancing drone technology, etc..... Ukraine is getting stronger, while Russia is getting weaker.

Ukraine has maintained laser focus on interdicting Russian supply lines, and as a result, shortages of ammo & food & medicine are chronic in the Russian trenches. Russia, by contrast, has not spent much effort at all to do the same to Ukraine. EX: Russia is functionally out of smart weapons, and is having to use surface-air missiles as unguided rockets to hit Ukrainian urban areas. No aiming possible. Point & shoot. "Inexplicable" doesn't quite capture the magnitude of it. Incompetence is more like it. Meanwhile, Ukraine is using $2k drones to take out aircraft worth tens of millions of dollars.

Both sides have failed to do jack squat.

Russian offensives go nowhere…if they even get off the ground…and they don't trust their conscripts to do much more than dig trench lines. They have to rely on ex-prisoners and mercenaries to take any towns.

Ukrainian offenses (paid for by US taxpayers) also do little to change the battlefield and can't drive the dug in Russian troops out of the east.

It's a bloody stalemate….

With what?

Russian logistics is knackered. They can't train and equip the troops they have, or support them with artillery, or armored vehicles, etc..... All they can do is hustle cannon fodder to the front to be mowed down, which is pretty much what they've been doing all along to no effect.

Sure, there are 100 or more snippets issued every day of the same Russian smart-weapon that got used last week. Russians are really good at that kind of disinformation.....putting out a dozen different videos taken from several different angles of the same destroyed tank. Etc....
