The questionnaire is extensive and at least 6 questions are intended to weed out gay dudes. (Don't worry, I'm still donating).
It does occur to me, what objective fact about being a gay guy makes you unsuitable for donating blood? Why are gay guys more prone to spreading disease and misery?
I give blood regularly, and I don't recall any of the questions being aimed to exclude gay men.
There are questions about sex for money, recent tattoos, exposure to Hepatitus or other infections, but nothing focusing on gays.
Were you in College Station? They may have been recruiting for cheerleaders.
Really? I remember those questions from the past. When a question asks a male about sex with other men, even one time, it is specifically looking to exclude gay men. Not sure if the still ask those questions. They also had questions about living in Africa (AIDS, maybe malaria) and being in Europe at certain times (mad cow disease).
Those questions don't automatically disqualify a donor if there is a 'yes' answer.
For example, there is a question about cancer. As it happens, I have an incurable cancer but it does not affect my blood, so while I answer that question 'yes' about cancer, the center where I regularly donate knows the whole background and it's a non-issue.
That which does not kill me, will try again and get nastier
