On to the 9th
The Republicans had enough votes to adjourn last night.Osodecentx said:
Something to keep an eye on: Dems will oppose a motion to adjourn if/when the 9th vote fails. This means a motion to adjourn can only pass if Republicans have enough votes.
Democrats will try to force Republicans to reject McCarthy on a ninth ballot, according to a party whip notice. Republicans will only be able to adjourn if they can hold most of their conference together and agree to punt.
I wasn't watching. Did Democrats oppose the motion to adjourn yesterday?Redbrickbear said:The Republicans had enough votes to adjourn last night.Osodecentx said:

I wonder if anything has changed?

So a black man is not allowed to have a dissenting political agenda from her or the progressive agenda, or he is aJack Bauer said:
She seems lovely...FWIW, @ByronDonalds is not a historic candidate for Speaker. He is a prop. Despite being Black, he supports a policy agenda intent on upholding and perpetuating white supremacy.

His name being in the mix is not progress—it’s pathetic.

"white supremacist".
Man she is incredibly racist, probably doesn't even know it.
They would never vote for Jeffries.Aliceinbubbleland said:
When the voting began I presumed it was the radical right telling the middle to stick it. I don't know who these 20 members are or what they stand for but I'd hope to put this to an end right now with McCarthy stepping aside.
It would be hilarious to see five of those hard cores just end it and vote for Jeffries. There is something here McCarthy doesn't want to give up and I would imagine it is tied to lobbyists.
Here’s another issue complicating matters and what could push speaker fight into next week: At least four Republican members have to leave town Friday because of some serious family issues they have to attend to, per source

I would point out the irony that she wants to enslave his mind and demand he have only the opinions of which she approves, but the incels would not understand it reagardless.Forest Bueller_bf said:So a black man is not allowed to have a dissenting political agenda from her or the progressive agenda, or he is aJack Bauer said:

The only way Jeffries wins is if a few moderate Republicans feel humiliated & disgusted enough by McCarthy's throwing ethics under the bus & selling out to the toddlers that they defect and vote for Jeffries.C. Jordan said:They would never vote for Jeffries.Aliceinbubbleland said:

Their sworn enemies are the Republican Establishment (whatever that is) and Democrats (who are out to destroy America as we know it).
I see no way out of this impasse. 95% of Republicans refuse to be held hostage to the 5%. The Chaos Caucus has said they will accept no one in Republican leadership. That knocks out Scalise and Stefanik. The 95% aren't going to vote for someone who has been in the House a total of 2 years.
Meanwhile, Jim Jordan is chomping at the bit to begin his personal grandstanding in an inquisition into the Bidens, which will be great fun but will yield nothing, just like Benghazi.
This is going to be 2 years of ugly, ugly in the House.

It's conspiracy theory BS.
What's embarrassing is the election-denying minority leader claiming not have a Speaker is a "threat to national security."J.B.Katz said:
As long as they're changing rules they should institute a 3 votes & your candidacy for speaker is done if you don't win a majority rule.
This is beyond embarrassing and not just for McCarthy.
In a sane and functional democracy, they’d realize McCarthy doesn’t have the votes and would put up someone else. Instead, it seems more likely they’ll ship the dissident Congress critters to Guantanamo if they don’t rubber stamp the uniparty’s choice.
