Trump did outperform his own polling, both in 2016 and 2020. In 2020, he outperformed his own polling pretty much everywhere except MI (although he did better in Detroit). PA, AZ, and GA were pretty much dead-on.

You're conflating issues. Post-2020 election, Trump did not focus on process issues. He focused on crooked voting machines and mass vote/electioneering fraud. All of that has been litigated and relitigated and study after study (some initiated by Trump team). he also focused on the "Pence strategy" which was laugable.

Again, Trump did better by far in urban areas than he did in 2016 and better than his own polling.

And every Trump attorney and campaign staffer has recanted. There is no there there.

No, I do not accept that we have to hang on to and support a big lie.

Very bad logic there = Trump did not focus on the process problems ergo there is no there there.

It's not a lie. Dems are stealing (close) elections with mail in voting. And the voters know it.
You misinterpreted. I am not denying Dems have a major advantage due to mail ballots, etc., and I have no doubt they cheat. What I reject is the mass voting machine/mass fraud/Pence power BS that Trump knew were lies lie (his own children, friends, and staff told him so) but got folks so riled up.
So if he'd just argued a different point it'd been ok to get everyone all riled up. Why not pick up where he left off and work on the actual problem.

Complaining about stolen elections is good politics, if executed well. It's certainly been effective for him - he's forty points up in the primary and effectively tied in the general with some current momentum. Perhaps if the rest of the team had joined in enthusiastically, rather than quibbling over details, the positive effects would have been broader. Kemp deserves special opprobrium in this regard. Unwilling to admit there were ANY problems for fear it would have reflected badly on him.

No, if he had argued honestly, folks would not have been so riled up. Rather, Trump would be in a stronger position, and voters would be motivated to vote and work to change processes rather than whine, wallow in conspiracies, and riot.

Effective? He lost, played a big role in Repubs faring poorly, and has record low disapprovals.

Perhaps you believe in wild election conspiracies. That's fine. Every court, audit (many commissioned by Trump/Trump supporters), and former Trump attorney disagrees with you.

Kemp was right. Trump was wrong. Georgians resoundingly supported Kemp but rejected Trump. Thanks for sticking the great state of GA with two leftist senators and turning it blue in the Pres race. Well done, Trump.

As for fixing the problem, what has Trump done? I'll answer . . . nothing. His hyperbole on BS detracts from the real issues. He has not donated one penny to true election reform efforts or systemic get-out-the-vote efforts, and he has rejected requests to assist in those efforts. Instead, he raises money purportedly for those causes (and for other candidates) but keeps the money. It's all about him. Always has been.

Trump understands something that his supporters don't -- fantasies and conspiracy theories are far more useful to him than any real, actionable fraud issues could ever be. It's not in his interest to fix the problems because 1) they don't make enough difference to swing an election and 2) actually fixing them would deprive him of a chance to play the victim. This is why he waited until after the election to file his lawsuits, and why he preferred to make his case in the media rather than in court.

It's a good thing Trump is around to allow Kemp (and more importantly Raffensberger) to deflect from their shortcomings, because they shat the bed with mail in voting. And appointed a Senator that lost to a Democrat.

Trump does what every candidate does - raises money for his campaign and avoids getting involved in others, by gloming onto the issues of the day. For a notoriously undisciplined candidate, he does manage to abide scrupulously to another old campaign shibboleth: Stay away from other campaigns. Run YOURS! The time to help other causes is after you win the election.

From Noonan. Well said, at least better than I can.

Mr. Trump's critics, foes and competitors will say that he often lied. Of course he did, over and over. It's what he does. Dogs bark, bears relieve themselves in the woods; we can't keep "discovering" this.

He lied about the 2020 election (he lost it, it's been probed and adjudicated), the Jan. 6 riots (there is no evidence, written or otherwise, that he issued an order to send in 10,000 National Guard troops, and his acting defense secretary testified that he was never given such direction), his tax cuts (they were neither the biggest in history nor bigger than Ronald Reagan's) and the wall (he didn't build one across the border with Mexico.)
He spun out assertions, charges and interpretations. His special talent, his truest superpower, is seeming to believe whatever pops out of his mouth, and sticking to it. Observers shake their heads despairingly: "He lies and people believe him." I think it's worse than that. He lies and a lot of supporters can tell it's a liethey know from their own memory it's a lie, that, say, Jan. 6 wasn't a "beautiful day" of "patriots" full of "love"but they don't mind. They admire his sheer ability to spin it out.
You're tickled by his boldness, his fearlessness, and when the lie drives the media and the stuffed shirts mad, you're delighted. He's subverting the elites and the corrupt power structures they've erected. And the great thing is you're in on the joke, on the mischief. You get to take part.

Peggy tells a number of whoppers of her own there, but she did hit the bullseye in the last paragraph. No question a big piece of Trump's support is the desire to give a great big middle finger to societal elites. Whatever can be said about Trump, the objects of his scorn deserve everything they're getting.

Why? Read the 25 post Twitter thread at link.

Popper's paradox on tolerance creates license for a virtue trap. Defining a person as intolerant gives license for you to be intolerant toward them, to eliminate the threat to liberty. And that exercise is explicitly virtuous, given that it's defending an open society. The trap is that the more one finds and denounces intolerance, the more virtuous one becomes. Ironically, the defining of someone/something as intolerant almost always will fail the falsifiability test which made Popper famous, rendering all that virtuous suppression of alleged fascism as little more than fascism itself. Oh, so rarely does virtue signaling have anything to do with virtue. Virtue never needs to signal.

Trump PAC Has Now Spent More Attacking DeSantis Than Backing GOP Midterm Candidates

Former president Donald Trump's super PAC, MAGA Inc., has now spent more money on attack ads targeting Florida governor Ron DeSantis than it previously did on supporting Republican candidates in the 2022 midterms.
Trump, who is the current frontrunner in the 2024 presidential race, has launched a series of attacks against DeSantis, who is expected to enter the race this week. MAGA Inc. has spent $15.3 million attacking the Republican governor and just $1,500 on supporting Trump.
In the 2022 midterms, the PAC spent $15 million to support Republican candidates in the key swing states of Arizona, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Ohio and Nevada. Republicans lost Senate races in four out of those five states, with only Ohio Republican J.D. Vance securing a win.
A spokesperson for DeSantis said the figures make clear that Trump views DeSantis as a threat.
