When you have people who hate God and want to destroy His people and His Word.... then it IS the Lord's work to get involved in politics.

It used to make sense for a preacher to not get involved, when everyone who was running for office was a Christian who just had disagreements on the best ways to do the Lord's work in office.

Now you have demonic people who want to kill babies, castrate and mutilate children, promote trans insanity, destroy Christianity, promote Islam.... so no.. it is truly EVIL for a Christian to STFU in these days.

The devil would love nothing more than for good Christian people to shut up and do nothing.
Is socialism/communism contrary to the word of God?

As actually practiced? Definitely.

Soviets killing 30+ million people = evil.
Khmer Rouge genocide = evil.
Venezuela under Chavez and Maduro stealing assets, blackmailing everyone, and currently kidnapping political opponents = evil.
Cuba imprisoning their entire nation = evil.
China being the world leader in corporate espionage = evil.

And before you start the European Socialism with sprinkles argument…..

Denmark creating a perpetual property owning elite caste = evil.
Sweden driving 1/4 then existing businesses into oblivion by massive taxes = evil.

So yes, socialism and communism as actually practiced are contrary to the word of God.

As found in the word of God, is socialism or communism contrary to God's word? Theoretically, they are not contrary. As you correctly point out, some examples are evil.

I don't find capitalism in scripture. As some actually practice it, capitalism can be contrary to scripture. Theoretically it isn't contrary, but as some practice it, it is.

Are you asserting that Joseph and Jesus only did probono carpentry?

Good point
You think Jesus was a Capitalist? The Roman Empire was entrepreneurial capitalism?

Carpentry cost something in a socialist economy. Food was scarce, but not free in Stalinist Russia

Trading labor for goods or services or currency is text book capitalism.

If you slow down any further you will be in reverse.
Well, labor is traded for goods or services in a socialist system.

Jubilee isn't very capitalistic. Check it out: From a legal point of view, the Jubilee law effectively banned sale of land as fee simple, and instead land could only be leased for no more than 50 years. The biblical regulations go on to specify that the price of land had to be proportional to how many years remained before the Jubilee, with land being cheaper the closer it is to the Jubilee.

How many state owned industries did Ancient Rome have?

Checkmate.

In some ways the late Roman Empire was a Libertarian utopia

Besides the very amoral aspect of society that appeals to the libertarian sensibility….the State didn't interfere with you selling yourself into slavery to settle your debts and they even outsourced policing & urban fire fighting to private individuals/companies

[Most ancient Roman cities had no firefighting organizations or equipment dedicated to fighting fires…
wealthy individuals would form their own personal fire brigades….An aedile by the name of Egnatius Rufus created a band of slaves that were tasked with putting out fires.]

Is socialism/communism contrary to the word of God?

Socialism/Communism is contrary to the Word of God, because it is based entirely upon human leadership trying to replace God.

This is why Marx and all the rest of the founders of modern Socialism were God-hating atheists. This is why they used to say things like "religion is the opiate of the masses".

God does not FORCE people to give to the poor or take care of the widows... he tells us to do so, according to His Word and His plan. People who obey and follow the Word of God are credited as righteous for their faith & obedience. Having a government force people to be "charitable" or go to jail... that is NOT following the plan or the Word of God.

To be a godly person and a follower of Christ requires that you have the option to be ungodly and choose to not follow Christ.

Forced "charity" is not godly in any way... and it always... ALWAYS leads to a dictatorial type of government. Every communist nation has resulted in oppressive authoritarian hell... every time.

I see what you were asking.... and it is a flawed question.

Socialism and Capitalism are not found in the Bible at all. The Bible only describes one form of government... monarchy.

Socialism, Communism and Capitalism are often confused together. Communism has never been practiced on a national scale without requiring an authoritative/dictatorial form of governance. It is impossible to enforce the practices of communism on a national scale without it. Socialism also requires a dictatorial level of power at the national level... but it has had some minor success in Europe without being oppressive. Still, there are few people in the world who would truly give up the freedoms we have in America, in order to have European Socialism. As we are now seeing, that European style of Socialism also gives the central government the power to force the people to accept & house immigrants, wither they want to or not. It also has the power to tax people out of most of their income, and restrict them from ever owning land or property. In other words, it is just a matter of time before a truly Socialist system becomes oppressive in some manner.

Capitalism is not a form of government. It can operate in almost any form of government, true democracy, democratic republic, parliamentary style, monarchy, etc. It is most commonly associated with free societies like the United States because it clearly flourishes and is most successful under such systems of governance.

Again, the Bible only refers to monarchies... both man-made and the Kingdom of God. However, the freedom to follow or reject God is a fundamental necessity to be a Christian. The Founding Fathers knew this, which is why they tried their best to create the most free system of government possible. They also knew that they only hope to keep a nation that is built upon individual liberty, was to have a society that is self-governing and therefore a society that follows the teachings of Christ. Sadly, too many in our nation have chosen to follow their own intellect... and now they are advocating for the killing of babies and the mutilation of children.... no big surprise there.

I don't find capitalism in scripture. As some actually practice it, capitalism can be contrary to scripture. Theoretically it isn't contrary, but as some practice it, it is.

We must understand that our ideas on the various economic systems are based on modern versions. Variations on these ideas do appear in scripture, though. One of the fundamental underpinnings of capitalism is private property and that is recognized throughout the Old Testament with one of the 10 Commandments against stealing. Also, the accumulation of wealth is often described as a sign of success, a blessing from God (Examples include Job, Abraham, David, Solomon, and others). By the same token, the wealthy are often condemned if they get rich through evil means or they use their wealth to exploit the poor. And everyone is commanded to give to the poor.

The early Christian church in the book of Acts engaged in a something that resembles Socialism. They pooled their resources with everyone sharing what they had for the common good. It was on a very small scale, it was strictly voluntary and it didn't last long. Ultimately it was a failure because like all forms of Socialism it defies human nature and we are all sinners.

By the way there were experiments in Socialism in early American history: both of the first two colonies (Jamestown and Plymouth) tried some form of it and failed miserably.

Jack Graham going off on Harris
he needs to STFU. As a recovering Baptist, Precher men need to do the Lords work and the hell out of politics
Agreed.

Of course I will note your usual lack of self-awareness and hypocrisy who has never criticized a blek "preacher" for being political ... isn't one of the senators from Georgia ostensibly a "reverend?" I am sure you criticized him for being involved in politics. As usual, LWNJ's lack principles.
Actually, I do not like any preacher that wallows in politics, regardless of color or ethnicity .

As opposed to wallowing in self righteousness such as describing Baptists in such a way as to imply that they are a sickness?

Your self description of "recovering Baptist" shouts bias and prejudice in big neon lights.

Maybe you don't need to worry how other people live their lives.

yes, I'm a recovering Baptist. It wasn't healthy as a child . Hell, my parents a Baptist and I have tons of friends who are. I just find that denomination very narrow minded, shallow, small and SOOOO hypicrital. Yall enjoy your child diddling preachers. NO thanks.
I hear yeah. Grew up in a strict Catholic household and watched too much hypocrisy. So, I have reached the point that as a Catholic, I like getting the Sacraments, but can't stand the Homily and readings. So, I get there for the 2nd half. Same way we did it in the military in the field, Offertory, Consecration, Communion. If it was good enough then, it is good enough every week.

I find Homilies to be money grabs and getting *****ed at about something every week... I don't know how the Protestants do it with the Service only being money grab and getting *****ed at... : )

Stupidest statement you've made. You believe that while everyone else can speak and vote their conscience, Christian preachers should not. Not only that, effectively, you're arguing that morality isn't political. At least you're posts are entertaining.
you a funny little college student. You make the most ridiculous statements daily.

Jr I'm likely as old as you and I know people like you. They think they're super smart but aren't. Your posts prove you are emotional and not logical.
My post stands, you are a walking talking posting double standard.

You'll complain if I don't do the research for you, but don't ask again for dumb **** like this.

Trump's about to have an Atlanta Falconesque Super Bowl collapse. He was up 28-3 after the assassination attempt. He seems determined to lose and may not even require overtime.

I am not Baptist. However I am adult enough not to condemn a large group of people for the improper actions of a tiny minority. Maybe you should try it. But clearly you prefer your internet name calling persona.

Strange how you willingly and continually choose to associate with a message board for a Baptist affiliated school. If we used your Guilt By Association mindset that makes you a "child diddler".

Thanks.

Given the claim, I believe requesting the source was a fair question. As for 'doing the research', you said it was on video, so it's perfectly reasonable for you to provide the support. At least that's the standard I have seen in debate all my life, maybe it's different rules now if you have certain opinions.

Also, the video gives a good sense of the size of the crowd as well. So again, thanks.
