Each side (prosecution and defense) has the privilege of calling witnesses for their case. Generally, prosecution goes first and can call witnesses in whatever order they want. Defense cross examines. Then Prosecution clses and Defense opens its case. Defense lawyers can call their witnesses in any order they want, and the prosecution cross examines them.boognish_bear said:
May be a dumb question… but does anyone know how the order of witnesses is determined?

NEW: Ex-@replouiegohmert, who unsuccessfully challenged Ken Paxton last year, says the impeached AG threatens to divide and destroy his party.

By the way, video of the first meeting Maxwell had with Nate Paul at OAG is here: https://t.co/B4EAu6Se6W pic.twitter.com/6kvPxjRmtP

TX Ranger David Maxwell gave the most powerful and sincere testimony today as a witness in the trial to impeach AG Ken Paxton. His no-nonsense and unshakeable composure, and his undeniable expertise while delivering the truth, closed out the week by giving Texans a strong sense… https://t.co/vDPPMTWDUE

I watched Ranger Maxwell’s testimony live and again just now from the video archive. Maxwell’s testimony has been the most impactful of the trial so far. Cogdell did an excellent job of questioning the witness, but he made only slight dents. Paxton ought to be concerned.

Penley, describing a tense meeting that included Paxton and Paul: "Mr. Paul acted like we didn’t understand who the real boss was. It wasn’t the attorney general, it was him." #txlege

Cary says Paxton's affair was affecting staff morale. One example, Cary says, is Paxton's wife was calling the office and asking about his schedule/where he was. "The staff was sometimes uncomfortable answering those questions." #txlege

When they do a "Trading Places" about lawyers, I want you to write the explanation scene.
Buzbee: "Imagine if we impeached everybody in Austin here that had an affair. We’d be impeaching for the next 100 years, wouldn’t we?"

We've reached the mistress part of the #PaxtonImpeachment trial. Paxton's senator-wife is seated among the jurors. And here's a photo of the mistress with the presiding officer of the impeachment trial. So, yeah, it's awkward. pic.twitter.com/jkdxc0FUUI

Folks want to say the Trump impeachment and Paxton impeachment are similar. Not true.

Trump is being attacked by leftists because they don’t like him or his Republican policies.
Paxton’s whistleblowers are lifelong movement conservatives, a Hall of Fame Texas Ranger, and an…
Wait, the witness wrote a memo accusing the AG of a crime without evidence, then applied for a job with the AG? Seriously? https://t.co/p85mLMQwuu

The unnecessary division continues:
""the Texas House has failed to follow its own precedents in previous impeachment hearings, which traditionally offered due process and defendant representation following the Texas Rules of Evidence (Eighth Principle)," continues the censure. "The CGI under the guidance of Chairman Murr hired a group of partisan investigators and accepted second-hand and third-hand testimony gathered by those investigators (Eighth Principle)."
They also pointed out that Paxton was not allowed to question witnesses or present evidence of his own during the committee investigation, which they said violates the eighth principle as well."
Now it moves on to the State Republican Executive Committee.

Paxton prosecution and defense each get 24 hrs to present cases + cross examine. Y'day Paxton's defense had 2 more hrs left than prosecution.
— Rebekah Allen (@rebekahallen) September 12, 2023
That means prosecutors could run out of time and Paxton's lawyers could present without challenge. @McGeeReports https://t.co/OcAqsH9VHn
