No, we were already divided. He just made you realize it.
Good point. Southern conservatives are a huge drag on justice and fairness in this world and our culture. Their backwardness and ignorance has been a part of our world since our founding. From slavery and segregation, and to the battering of African-Americans, and the Native Americans and the Asian Americans and Hispanics.. you were right about the divide that has been revealed but it's cause is in white supremacy. There's always push back against progressive liberal ideas. Now they call us liberals evil.
good gosh, thats alot of wrong in one post.

"White supremacy" brought you the right for women to vote, the right for blacks to vote, desegregation, civil rights act, voting rights act..

White supremacy is just more identity politics and ways to devide our nation. The elites in Washington thank you for your support

Your language over time, not just in these recent posts, has displayed the hate you deny, and your stereotyping "Southern conservatives" as monolithically racist is a manifestation of that hate. Unfortunately, you believe that your hate is justified.

Another bill that sailed through the Texas House would create a committee to "promote patriotic education" about the state's secession from Mexico in 1836, largely by men who were fighting to expand slavery. And a third bill would block exhibits at San Antonio's Alamo complex from explaining that major figures in the Texas Revolution were slave owners."

Not at all. You have stereotyped "Southern conservatives" as racist. You did not argue that racism is a drag on justice and fairness, you have argued that Southern conservatives are a drag on justice and fairness as though a belief in limited government is somehow evil. You paint with the same broad brush that an anti-Black racist might use in characterizing African Americans negatively. You take an evil (racism) and attribute it to all of your political opponents (conservatives) who happen to live in a particular geographic region (the south). It is the same mental process of stereotyping and dehumanizing that virulent racists use to create an out group.

Again, you take an evil (racism) and attribute it to all of your political opponents (conservatives) who happen to live in a particular geographic region (the south). It is the same mental process of stereotyping and dehumanizing that virulent racists use to create an out group.

Not all racists claim the war was about "states rights," and not all who claim the war was about "states rights" are racist. However, the pro slavery faction was opposed to states rights and the anti slavery faction supported states rights until a number of southern states attempted to leave the union because neither the federal government nor many of the other states would abide by federal law, which allowed for slavery at that time. Whether you look at states rights in the context of allowing slavery or leaving the union because other states and the federal government refused to enforce it, slavery was the driving force behind the Civil War.

Read the South Carolina or Texas articles of secession which explicit sates that slavery is THE issue.
Here is Texas' articles "She was received as a commonwealth holding, maintaining and protecting the institution known as negro slavery--the servitude of the African to the white race within her limits--a relation that had existed from the first settlement of her wilderness by the white race, and which her people intended should exist in all future time. Her institutions and geographical position established the strongest ties between her and other slave-holding States of the confederacy."

Your premise that I said "all" is a mischaracterization of what I said. I will have to stop dialogue with someone who generalizes to absurdity about my position.
Rather than trying to back me into your preconceived corner (I'll prove this damn liberal wrong") which is a stereotype on your part, please accurately state my position. Unless you do that simple exercise I will have to stop communicating because I can argue when lies are represented as truth.

I say that slavery is the driving force behind the civil war and you argue that I should read the articles of secession from South Carolina or Texas because that explicitly states that "slavery was THE issue." Why should I read again what I have already read to find evidence for what I have already argued?

You paint with the broadest of brushes, and then, when called on it, you protest that you didn't say "all." Problem is, you used and use all-encompassing language, without qualification or nuance, to broadly condemn those you don't like by linking them with one of history's greatest evils. I don't expect you to recognize it because you are so emotionally invested in your own moral superiority, but this is the same rhetorical strategy of a racist who seeks to set apart as despicable "those people," be they "the blacks" or "the Jews" or whomever you choose.

Not about "winning." About reflecting back to you exactly what your words are actually doing. I am not mischaracterizing your argument, I am analyzing your rhetoric and pointing out that you are doing the exact same thing to Southern conservatives that racists do to African Americans or Jews or whomever. You are even using the same defense. In the same way that the racist might argue "I didn't say ALL blacks (fill in negative attribute here)," you come back with "I didn't say ALL Southern conservatives are racist." You are using the same rhetoric that attributes negative traits to entire groups you don't like, stripping them of their individual humanity.
