There is just as many studies showing that masks do cut down on the range that you spread a disease. Masks may be required because the science IS NOT known yet as a precaution.

This is from the Cochrane review, the Mt. Sinai of evidence based medical meta analyses.

"Ten studies took place in the community, and two studies in healthcare workers. Compared with wearing no mask in the community studies only, wearing a mask may make little to no difference in how many people caught a flu-like illness/COVID-like illness (9 studies; 276,917 people); and probably makes little or no difference in how many people have flu/COVID confirmed by a laboratory test (6 studies; 13,919 people)."

As the left likes to say, "the science is settled". If you're spreading opinions contrary to this, you're guilty of spreading "misinformation and disinformation."

The government gives us reasons to distrust it almost every day. This began long before covid but that accelerated it.

It's really sad to see people still wearing masks in 2023.. but it is also helpful. Whenever I see someone with a mask these days, i just know that they are extremely low IQ. It helps me avoid idiots in my daily life.
Wearing masks definitely screams I AM A MORON either one is a science denier or a virtual signaling fascist.

The stupidity of this post astounds me.

The stupidity of still wearing masks long after they were found to be mostly ineffective astounds me

First, the type of mask makes a big difference. People were misled early to think cloth masks were effective, so they wore them thinking they were protected. Of course those people got covvid more often than others. Covid is able to live in very small microdroplets that only KN95 and better can be somewhat effective against.

Secondly, masks existed far before covid. A kid would get a cold in Asia, wear a mask to school, and go about life. Masks are effective against common minor sicknesses. So someone wears a mask because they feel sick and you judgy zealots are inwardly thinking "stupid people."

I am scraping windows ight now I think might have lead paint, and am gladly an idiot in the eyes of sicem zealots. Basically lots of reasons to wear masks aside from covid.
Spare us the gaslighting. The "K95" started about February 2022 after "masks" were continually proven not only to be ineffective but also exacerbate the problem. No rona authoritarian in 2020 or 2021 was saying "only KN95." It was never about t'science or stopping the spread but social control and virtue signaling. And some of us are smart enough to know the difference between < 1 micron virus and lead paint, so save your condescension for your regressive moron friends that believe the Russia Hoax and the 2016 election was stolen and Trump banned Mooslims.
Masks were supposed to reduce the distance a person spread the disease, not protect you from getting the disease.

The changing of the reasons things were done during the Pandemic is amazing. I guess if your mission is to undermine the Govt, it makes sense.

  • We quarantined to ensure hospitals didn't get overwhelmed, not to stop people from getting the disease.
  • Inoculations were to reduce the severity of the disease, not prevent it. It was supposed to keep you from ending up in a hospital.
  • Masks reduce the distance the disease is spread, protecting others not the person wearing the mask.
  • The States made the determinations on how they responded, not the President. Each State, as the Constitution dictates, handled the Pandemic as they saw fit. The Fed made resources available, I was on such calls.

The changing of what happened to back up this narrative that the Deep State is controlling us is getting out of hand.
Nobody is changing any narrative. Forcing people to wear a mask into a restaurant only to take it off when they sit down is f'ing ridiculous and those of us who said so were called murderers. I actually had some dumb boomer tell me I was a bad person bc I wouldnt wear a mask into a restaurant and instead opted to stand outside to wait for a patio table. Those masks didnt do anything to prevent covid and the whole thing was just an exercise in govt control. Hell, I had a post taken down off of next door for recommending people should take vitamin D. Covid was the biggest psyop of our time.
You guys tend to mix the action with people's reactions.

Wearing a mask through a group of tables until you get to your table is not stupid. It is courteous to the people around you. I realize you put little to no value on those little niceties that society used to take for granted. Now it is an infringement on your MF-ing rights and not only won't you wear a mask but if you want to do deep breathing exercises in the restaurant it is your right to do so. Your individual rights are more important than being polite to the people around you. I get it.

Calling someone a murderer is wrong, not illegal. Sort of in the arena of doing deep breathing exercises in a restaurant. An ******* thing to do, like not wearing a mask around people concerned about catching a disease.

Verbally assaulting is wrong. Period. With masks, without masks. I

But when you create a world where the individual being allowed to do or say whatever they want, you get that.too. Having rights is one thing, but there is also something for showing a little courtesy to those around you. Now, it is all about the individual. If I want to be a dick, it is my Constitutional right. What a great world we created.
no one is requesting that others wear a mask... they are demanding it, and even attempting to enforce it by law.

If you don't want to be around people who don't wear a mask... stay at home.

Wearing a mask on your face is akin to wearing a diaper on your elbow... it looks stupid and serves no function at all.
Disagree with you on this one. The State Government does have the Authority to require masks, regardless of your opinion of how it looks. There is just as many studies showing that masks do cut down on the range that you spread a disease. Masks may be required because the science IS NOT known yet as a precaution. So, if your County or City require a mask, they have the authority to do so. Even if you disagree.

But, if you want to wear one on your elbow too, that is up to you. It is a free Country.

No.

This isn't the right thread for this discussion, but I'll just quickly add this:

The government has ASSUMED the authority to require masks. In many nations, the government already has been granted that authority, but in America, the government has been slowly pushing for more and more authority over our everyday lives.

Regardless of wither you think the government has this authority or not... it is an evil thing for a government to tell people what they must wear, and where they can or cannot go in public.

Forced compliance to wear a piece of cloth in public is wrong, wither it has a N95 or a Star of David on it... it is wrong.

We can do this all day. Journal of AMA is peer reviewed data. From a policy perspective, it will be better to mask until you are sure it isn't needed. You can always lower control, ramping up during is almost impossible.

"Available evidence strongly suggests that masking in the community can reduce the spread of SARS-CoV-2 and that masking with the highest-quality masks that can be made widely available should play an important role in controlling whatever pandemic caused by a respiratory pathogen awaits us."

You and many on the site seem to think that these decisions are some Authoritarian Government control move, when in real life Emergency Management operates from a Plan for the worst and back off as things are not required. For me, this is the frustrating part that decisions made for emergency management are being weaponized for Politics. We have hurricanes every year. We evacuate the barrier islands and low lying areas, typically it is not needed. But, if it is needed, you can't manage during an event. I saw nothing wrong with how the Pandemic was managed. I thought FL handled it best. MI, NY and MA the worst. But those are State decisions.

This conversation and demonizing the response will end up killing people the next time. Nobody in a position of authority made a decision to hurt someone. Have you ever done Emergency Mgt? There are no right answers, someone is pissed no matter what you do.

I thought the Pandemic was handled correctly and Trump did a good job. It is clearly a State responsibility and the Courts have backed that repeatedly.

I have no idea about a Star of David? But, if there is a public health threat the Govt does have the right and authority to impose restrictions and requirements. If you believe there was no public health threat and it was a plot, than I have no idea what to say.

The persecution of the Jews was also for public safety in the 1930s.

I thought you meant on the mask. We were discussing masks during a public health crisis. I didn't know we were going Holocaust?

You really think that wearing a mask during COVID is on par with the Holocaust? That the US is like Germany in the 1930's? Seems a bit of a stretch.

In too many ways, the US today resembles the early years of Nazi Germany: government control of too many areas of public life, many institutions conforming to ideological purity (academia, legal profession, medical profession, most professions, banking, many large industries, labor organizations, civic organizations, etc), media controlled by ideological purity & willing to lie about anything, censorship, people targeted for political or religious beliefs, antisemitism, etc ad nauseum.

That's why I said "resembles": they are not the same thing but there are too many similarities. For example, they have always had an element of antisemitism but it's more open and scarier since October 7.

The fact that the presidents of three prestigious Ivy League universities could not condemn students advocating another Holocaust is reprehensible and totally damming. Even worse, only one lost her job over it, while Harvard's Fuehrer was given enthusiastic support despite a plagiarism scandal & the loss of large amounts of donations ($1 billion, I think).

The Weimar comparison is very appropriate because we are in grave danger but still have options. Although, things look bleak maybe we have not yet reached the point of no return. Then again, J6 has been compared to the Reichstag fire and that gives pause.

And to draw even more parallels to the Weimar republic, in the last 130 years, the two elected world leaders who were the oldest when they took office were Otto von Hindenburg (77) and Joe Biden (78). And we all know who succeeded Hindenburg.

Actually, Senators were supposed to be selected by the state legislators.
In this way, the judicial system would be accountable & loyal to states instead of the federal government. Also the federal legislature couldn't usurp state powers for itself.
Woodrow Wilson and the "progressives" did away with that... and it's been a long slide into centralized control ever since.

The second amendment is the last safeguard of a free people, not the judiciary. If you've been watching the legal system over the past few decades, it is clear that large segments of it are already lost. It isn't quite as far gone as the public school system yet, but within a decade it will be.

The observation that America today is in the same place that Germany was in it's transition from the Weimar Republic to the Third Reich is quite correct. There is a Fourth Reich rising here just as surely as the third rose there.

But the thought that a few thousand old fat white boys scattered across the country with their deer rifles, shot guns and the occasional AR are going to stop what's coming is an internet fantasy.

The only realistic hope is that a few governors openly lead a resistance. Provide rallying points for like minded Americans willing to take on long odds and fight.

And life in the US would have to get far worse before any governors would accept such a risk

Yeah...

It totally didn't work in Viet Nam, Afghanistan, Iraq,...

And you are assuming that the American people will be cool with Abrams Tanks and A10 Warthogs being unleashed in our cities and small towns.

If it is just a bunch of rainbow/snowflake soldiers that are sent out to face a bunch of rednecks... I'm betting on the rednecks! You can put your money on the LGBTQ+ soldiers if you want. Good luck with that. If you actually think that the average non-LGBTQ soldier will be cool with kicking-in doors in Little Rock or Houston... yeah... good luck with that too.

All true.

Keep in mind the only German Jews who survived the death camps were the ones who got out of the country while they still could.

And don't you know the crap they took from their fellow Jews for giving up almost everything they possessed just to get out.

The judicial system is the last safeguard conservatives have in this country.

Lose the courts and personal freedoms along with property rights will be lost forever.

The second amendment is the last safeguard of a free people, not the judiciary. If you've been watching the legal system over the past few decades, it is clear that large segments of it are already lost. It isn't quite as far gone as the public school system yet, but within a decade it will be.

Hilarious

' snowflake soldiers vs rednecks '

Classic internet fantasy

Organized military units almost always remain loyal to their officers. And those trained, better equipped units would wipe out the little good ol boys and their gun clubs.

In the real world resistance would have to be concentrated in areas of overwhelming popular support. And only supremely confident and able governors could provide the supplies necessary to survive the initial federal onslaught.

But none of this is even remotely likely to happen.

Most governors simply have too much to lose and the vast majority of Americans don't want to risk their lives for anything or anyone.

This wouldn't look like Lexington or Gettysburg.

It would look like Afghanistan.

Exactly

Or the the initial few months of the Spanish Civil War.

Where those unlucky enough to live in the ' wrong ' areas were often executed out of hand.

You just saw some Pashtun Rednecks in the Hindu Kush mountains make the U.S. military run home.

The Viet Con were a bunch of swamp hicks that made the U.S. army quit and go home.

And the Rednecks here would be engaging in a massive guerrilla campaign against key infrastructure right here at home.

A bloody internal war like that is unlikely to take place as you point out (American elites of both parties gain far more by looting the country together than fighting each other)

But this dismissive idea that "ha ha the imperial US army troops will smash the redneck insurrection" is not only hubris….its militarily foolish.

A war at home against a large part of the native populace would be hard fight for the Federal imperial State to win…especially when the ruling class in DC has probably never had less legitimacy in the eyes of the people than now.

These hypothetical civil war scenarios are silly and dangerous. We can only hope & pray that nothing that stupid would ever happen. This country has already survived one civil war and it was devastating in many ways. We do not need another one ever.

You are dead right. The Civil War crap needs to stop. Insurrection is not an answer.

First there is a huge difference between a political war overseas where most are just putting in their time to survive deployment and a Civil War. A real insurrection wouldn't last more than a day or so. You guys are watching too much Red Dawn...

I've never been in a real war but I know that Hollywood is not a useful source information on any topic. I doubt very many people there know what war is really like: screenwriters, actors, directors, etc. it certainly is NOT a reliable source on anything about history.

We're already in one. It's just that up to this point, it's been fought with plowshares instead of swords.
