From stories in my feed this morning, looks like Thune is signaling that he will facilitate rather than frustrate efforts to get Trump's picks and that's a good sign. Trump won a clear mandate to govern, and implicit in that are getting people appointed who will implement his agenda......one way or the other. The Senate can either confirm Gaetz, or Trump will make him a recess appointment. That's the way the process is supposed to work.
Gaetz just won re-election. One would think any outstanding dirt on him would have already been thrown, so I counsel to be skeptical of new, improved outrages.

Gaetz as AG, recess appointment? Really, the guy is being investigated for sex trafficking and drugs. Disrupter? That is probably as giving the guy the biggest benefit of the doubt in US history.
A majority of the public is no longer persuaded by that argument. A majority of the public believes "investigations" have been weaponized by Democrats for partisan purposes. And they are correct. It's right there in plain view - the process IS the punishment.

The premise of your position on this is that the system is NOT broken. I disagree. It is wildly, careening out of control biased, and not just against Republicans. Against dissent. Against lack of enthusiasm. Even against failure to stay on script, to "stay in your lane." Elon Musk launches a bid to buy Twitter? The administrative state launches multiple investigations of his investments, his companies, etc.... Shocking. THAT'S why he endorsed Trump. He sees the problem, because he's been victimized by it. Smiles and soft words are not going to fix that. Time for reform is now. And it was definitely on the ballot in the election. The voters want it. They should get it. So let's wait until there is an actual misstep/overstep before we step in to moderate, rather than foreclose the possibility of serious reforms by insisting that we exclude all reformers from the process.
I'm not arguing for a pogrom. I'm arguing for selecting out a handful of the most egregious examples and letting them be punished by process. I'd also argue for a ton of pardons. For people on both sides of the aisle. I suspect Trump will do that. It'd certainly be smart....to counter-balance the accountability side of the equation.
The current strategy is leaving him vulnerable in Congress. He is pulling his strongest supporters into his Cabinet and leaving the Senate to the Collins, Mursakis (AK) and others AND then telling them to eat Gaetz or recess. That is not speculation or hand wringing. Two of his Cabinet members have outstanding ethics/legal issues (AG and now DEF). Believe it or not, the Senate WILL require hearings. That info will come out. The other is sexual abuse. Trump does not need this and does not need to use political chips on this crap.
At least McConnell got the greater good, but Trump met him halfway even though they did not like each other. Vance is appearing to be the voice of reason in this current crop... Think about that, you were in DC, how is that going to play out. The system will defend itself. DC is a strange, dangerous place...
In 2020, Biden got men wearing dresses appointed by the Senate, so the bar of disqualification is vanishingly low (at least for Democrats). Seriously. You watch. The same Senate holdouts on the AG will all, to a person, have voted to confirm dudes wearing dresses because "the (Democrat) POTUS deserves his nominees." We should be mailing dresses to their offices to remind them of their peculiar double standard that says it is our moral duty to divide own policy imperatives by crooked numbers while sharpening pencils to add exponents to whatever the Democrats want to do, merely to bask in the glow of bi-partisanship (that attends to Democrat vanities at the expense of ordinary people).

What we are going to see with Gaetz is a handsome, high-testosterone young man who liked to do things that handsome, high-testosterone young men are prone to do (party hearty) facing a flurry of allegations based on guilt by association. How do we know that? An out-of-control partisan DOJ that that conducted swat raids on Republicans over process crimes, that put grandmas in jail for demonstrating at abortion clinics, that launched investigations of mothers complaining at school board meetings, that put into years of solitary pre-trial confinement elderly people who wandered thru open doors and spent a few minutes taking pictures of the Capital, that chose to launch contrived prosecutions of the leading political opponent of the administration without the slightest attempt to exhaust more obvious civil law issues.......that DOJ curiously declined to prosecute the most hated young man in Congress on sex trafficking allegations (because there was no evidence he had actually done what was alleged).
Don't let them lead you around by the nose......
Do I think he should be AG? Absolutely not. I have met him in Tallahassee, I am sure there are politicians in Texas that you know and would cringe if put in that position. I can see him in the Cabinet, just not AG. But opinions are like *******s...
