Matt Gaetz has no business in law enforcement of any kind. He isn't a reformer. He's a mouthy half-wit spoiled brat whose power-broker dad set him up in Florida politics after covering over his ongoing "slip-ups." It isn't even about his qualifications or lack of them. He will be utterly ineffective, and no good conservatives will want to work in his DOJ. He'll end up firing a bunch of people (nothing bad about that) but having to replace them with incompetents.

He will do more to politicize the DOJ, just in the other direction. Terrible, terrible move.
if all he does is get rid of the progressive activists, it's a huge win for everyone, his critics and supporters alike, as they both will benefit from ending the culture of politicized law enforcement.

He will do that, this is a burn the place to the ground retribution tour. The question is who does he replace them with? What do they stand for? Blind allegiance to Trump? Recess Appointments? Dick Cheney Halibutyon grift, just with Musk and Vivek? Closed fist salutes when mentioning his name?
I know a really solid dude right here in Waco that would be deserving of a promotion.

There is no shortage of good people. There is mostly a shortage of accountability.

Agree, there are really good people. You don't get accountability, by skipping accountability. You don't get it, requiring or forcing recess Appointments. I want to hear them answer the questions, that is the Senates job.
Nobody is trying to avoid a hearing. Rather, the incoming Admin and the Senate are sparring over power. Gaetz is the kind of selection that few Senators could reasonably be expected to recommend for appointment. Disruptors are always controversial. Elon Musk will likely be regarded as the Henry Ford of his time in the business realm, but it's instructive that he became such a lightning rod when he got into politics - if you are effective, you will be attacked to make you less so. Nobody would care about Gaetz's partying if he was getting along to go along.

From stories in my feed this morning, looks like Thune is signaling that he will facilitate rather than frustrate efforts to get Trump's picks and that's a good sign. Trump won a clear mandate to govern, and implicit in that are getting people appointed who will implement his agenda......one way or the other. The Senate can either confirm Gaetz, or Trump will make him a recess appointment. That's the way the process is supposed to work.

Gaetz just won re-election. One would think any outstanding dirt on him would have already been thrown, so I counsel to be skeptical of new, improved outrages.
As I said, Gaetz is a throwaway as AG. The current nominee for Dep AG will get AG, which would have raised a stink if he was the original as he is Trump's personal Attorney. But, he is better than Gaetz. Tulsi may be in that deal as well, since Gaetz is such a big turd as AG he may get 2 for 1...
possible.

Don't kid yourself, Gaetz resigned because the House hearing would have been devastating and caused Trump a lot of heartburn.
also possible there is nothing new there we don't already know. (that's the safe bet.)

Senate is not going to roll over.
For sure.

Hey, I get it. Well played by Trump if he gets his Attorney as AG. DC is gamesmanship. What I can't get are the "heel-lickers" that anything Trump does it right.
LOL what about the "heel biters" who savage everything he does?

Gaetz as AG, recess appointment? Really, the guy is being investigated for sex trafficking and drugs. Disrupter? That is probably as giving the guy the biggest benefit of the doubt in US history.
A majority of the public is no longer persuaded by that argument. A majority of the public believes "investigations" have been weaponized by Democrats for partisan purposes. And they are correct. It's right there in plain view - the process IS the punishment.

Just give Donald whatever he wants??
That was basically the historical standard. Rejection happened 11 times before Bill Clinton. Since then, it's gone crazy. Normally, you are a voice for putting aside the fighting and getting down to cooperation. Why not start now? Let Trump have his picks. Evaluate the outcomes. If there is abuse, impeach. It's not like Democrats are loathe to do that. They'd be willing to impeach Donald J. Trump for throwing empty diet Coke cans in the trash rather than recycle bin.

No questions or you are a Lib Dem? Or worse, we will come after you? Didn't we just complain about this for 4 years?
Exactly. Who better to end the practice than someone who has been victimized by it? How are we to generate disincentive for Democrats abusing not just processes but entire agencies if we do not punish those who broke laws doing so?

Who is going to be Trump's Jean-Pierre? I get Musk, he has shifted paradigms and is a visionary. Vivek? The guy is a punk IPO Snake Oil Salesmen, he took failed drugs repackaged and sold before trials were done. Great guy...

Democrats have forgotten a very important lesson - line of sight is reciprocal....anything you to do your opponent while in power, your opponent can do to you while in power. So be careful what you do to your opponent, because eventually you are going to lose an election and your opponent is going to be in position to return favors. That was the most alarming thing about what Democrats have done to Trump & his supporters - their disregard for the risk of reciprocity was so profound it suggested they PLANNED to never lose another election.

The premise of your position on this is that the system is NOT broken. I disagree. It is wildly, careening out of control biased, and not just against Republicans. Against dissent. Against lack of enthusiasm. Even against failure to stay on script, to "stay in your lane." Elon Musk launches a bid to buy Twitter? The administrative state launches multiple investigations of his investments, his companies, etc.... Shocking. THAT'S why he endorsed Trump. He sees the problem, because he's been victimized by it. Smiles and soft words are not going to fix that. Time for reform is now. And it was definitely on the ballot in the election. The voters want it. They should get it. So let's wait until there is an actual misstep/overstep before we step in to moderate, rather than foreclose the possibility of serious reforms by insisting that we exclude all reformers from the process.

I'm not arguing for a pogrom. I'm arguing for selecting out a handful of the most egregious examples and letting them be punished by process. I'd also argue for a ton of pardons. For people on both sides of the aisle. I suspect Trump will do that. It'd certainly be smart....to counter-balance the accountability side of the equation.

No, my position is that it doesn't matter if it is broken. It is the environment that Trump has to navigate. Congress is not an optional feature and he has to work with them or he is back into 2019.

The current strategy is leaving him vulnerable in Congress. He is pulling his strongest supporters into his Cabinet and leaving the Senate to the Collins, Mursakis (AK) and others AND then telling them to eat Gaetz or recess. That is not speculation or hand wringing. Two of his Cabinet members have outstanding ethics/legal issues (AG and now DEF). Believe it or not, the Senate WILL require hearings. That info will come out. The other is sexual abuse. Trump does not need this and does not need to use political chips on this crap.

At least McConnell got the greater good, but Trump met him halfway even though they did not like each other. Vance is appearing to be the voice of reason in this current crop... Think about that, you were in DC, how is that going to play out. The system will defend itself. DC is a strange, dangerous place...

It's also true that Trump won the popular vote and will indeed be President = he is not an optional feature either and Congress has to work with HIM.

In 2020, Biden got men wearing dresses appointed by the Senate, so the bar of disqualification is vanishingly low (at least for Democrats). Seriously. You watch. The same Senate holdouts on the AG will all, to a person, have voted to confirm dudes wearing dresses because "the (Democrat) POTUS deserves his nominees." We should be mailing dresses to their offices to remind them of their peculiar double standard that says it is our moral duty to divide own policy imperatives by crooked numbers while sharpening pencils to add exponents to whatever the Democrats want to do, merely to bask in the glow of bi-partisanship (that attends to Democrat vanities at the expense of ordinary people).

Strange, dangerous places should not be afforded much respect. They should be struck with sledgehammers and machetes to restore some semblance of order and light.

What we are going to see with Gaetz is a handsome, high-testosterone young man who liked to do things that handsome, high-testosterone young men are prone to do (party hearty) facing a flurry of allegations based on guilt by association. How do we know that? An out-of-control partisan DOJ that that conducted swat raids on Republicans over process crimes, that put grandmas in jail for demonstrating at abortion clinics, that launched investigations of mothers complaining at school board meetings, that put into years of solitary pre-trial confinement elderly people who wandered thru open doors and spent a few minutes taking pictures of the Capital, that chose to launch contrived prosecutions of the leading political opponent of the administration without the slightest attempt to exhaust more obvious civil law issues.......that DOJ curiously declined to prosecute the most hated young man in Congress on sex trafficking allegations (because there was no evidence he had actually done what was alleged).

Don't let them lead you around by the nose......
You miss my point, Gaetz sits there answers questions and is confirmed. I am good. Trump is going to pull some maneuver to appoint a Cabinet without any Hearings or scrutiny, I am not. Simple as that. Honor the system. Don't do middle of the night ***** You won, act like it. Circumventing the system is NOT acting like it, it is acting either scared or dictator. Neither helps.

Do I think he should be AG? Absolutely not. I have met him in Tallahassee, I am sure there are politicians in Texas that you know and would cringe if put in that position. I can see him in the Cabinet, just not AG. But opinions are like *******s...
If the Senate refuses to appoint him, Trump should elevate him with a recess appointment.

That, too, is the process.......................................................
I agree. But at least you and I know who is getting elevated and what they stand for. Midterms will tell at that point.

Just don't come out of the gate throwing process aside and pissing off 3/4 of DC when you want to get an agenda passed. Exec Orders won't cut it.

3 are in contention to me, but as I said to Whiterock. Get confirmed, all is well. There has only been one not confirmed since Ike - Tower for womanizing and drinking... Most are withdrawn, you would have to assume when a deal is cut. Trump did it last time numerous times. Question is what is he getting in return?

I think Gaetz, Gabbard and RFK are withdrawn. Hegswith is OK in Def and he gets some concessions on items he wants pushed through immediately. Problem is that Colling and Murkowski are wild cards.

Oh. I like him as the pick even more, now. I wasnt totally up to speed on his case - so thanks.

Liberals and rinos on here are calling for Gaetz's head on a platter because a liberal criminal made false allegations against him.

But to libs, damage done: Crucify Gaetz. (Ignore the leftists felon who made the false allegations.)

The 3 points at the end are my favorite and now I think he may be the best pick of all Trump's nominees. Remember!! - Trump's 1st term was riddled by false accusations and lies (and treason I might add) and the Rinos just played right along with them; which tied up his entire first term.

This may be the single most important pick and I am now a huge fan.

Except that most of that never happened. Subjectively you may not think you're advocating a pogrom, but objectively that's exactly what you're doing when you try to punish imaginary crimes.

And persecution of dissent, lack of enthusiasm, failure to stay on script, etc. will follow as it always does. The left has no monopoly on these things.

You guys do not get it, it is not about winning the election. It is about implementing your agenda. To do that you need the other pillars of Government or it is just Executive Orders that can rescinded. Doing this **** does nothing but sets up years of BS

3 vote majorities in the house and senate is hardly a mandate.

Trump is going to have to rely on executive orders still again.
And that's ok with me in regards to the border and the woke bull*****

If the Dems reverse them all still again in four years, we deserve what we get.

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Illinois), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, called on the House Ethics Committee to preserve its report and documents about former congressman Matt Gaetz (R-Florida) after he abruptly resigned from the chamber Wednesday.
The Biden DOJ exonerated Gaetz of criminal wrongdoing and dropped the charges in February 2023. Isnt that enough?
Not being indicted is not exoneration

Let's see the House Committee report

All we have to do is compare records:
4 years of Trump with largely successful policies & he did none of the crazy things the fascists said hd r we oils go (& ard still saying)
Almost 4 years of Biden & Harris (& 8 years of Obama) with abundant evidence of the Dems doing the exact things they said Trump would do: censorship, abusing DoJ, IRS, etc with bogus political prosecutions, persecuting people for their beliefs, etc.

Not Biden. That was stolen with 15+ million fake ballots: dead people, illegals, felons, criminals voting multiple times, etc. Some places had more votes than registered voters. And they are trying again now.

Occasionally

However there are still too many congressional neocons to believe Trump will be able to exercise a Pelosi like control of the house.

Especially since Trump is effectively a 4 year lame duck. Those neocons know the 'king' is dead in 2028.
