So, how does this end? If you can't work with the other side and the Romney's, Manchin's, McCain's, Lieberman's basically anyone that tries for bi-partisan legislation is "dead to us". How does it end?

Depends on what bi-partisan legislation we are talking about

Betraying the base by reaching across the aisle to push for more foreign wars, and more leftist social stuff
(taking down statues, renaming bases, codifying gay "marriage" into Federal law, confirming Leftist Life Judges)

That is not the kind of bi-partisan stuff that Republican voters want....its a betrayal

Not to mention there is no similar movement among the Democrats to reach across the isle and secure our borders or push socially conservative legislation

Bi-partisanship is a one way street in DC
Then it doesn't end because the GOP will lose the House in 2 years. It will be more of the same bi-partisan crap.

As for votes, use this site and find out what the people you say you despise and love actually vote for.

Congressional Votes Database - GovTrack.us

I don't hate Mitt Romney (or people like him..Collins and Murkowski)....I literally started the thread and said its "hard to hate Romney and hard to love him"

I have just been watching both parties in Congress a long time.

There is bipartisanship around having a very aggressive foreign policy (more wars in more places), not securing the border (more cheap labor), and moving the country in a pro-Liberal social/cultural direction (if slowly)

All things that the average Republican voter is against (and for very good reason)

Ever wonder why the Democrats never seem to have these types of "bi-partisan" types in their caucus? And when one emerges, they are casted out and become Independents?

When the left wins elections - let us all bend over and take it from the majority party..
When the right wins elections - let us be bi-partisan and find ways to compromise with the minority party.

You think Trump will have smooth sailing and destroy the Dems? He won by a percent or two. You guys think it is over and Trump won?

I am not getting the end game here or at least one that is realistic.
We are in the majority. We don't need to work with the other side now. They need to work with us. What we don't need is for our side to block our own agenda. You may not like it, but don't side with them and block us. That is our end game. Get on board or get out.
A majority of how many? Including Collins and Murkowski? GOP had a bigger majority in 2016, how did that go? Prison reform? 40 miles of wall of a 2000 mile border? I think that was it in 2 years. Ryan was the scoundrel that prevented progress back then, remember. Who will it be this time?

Exactly. Those are not democrats we are needing to win over... they are establishment 'traitors' blocking ourselves. Reaching across the isle right now means stopping our agenda.

You need to be taking this message to the democrats now... reach across the isle and work with us on borders and getting dudes out of my daughter's locker room.

I can't speak for FLA, but we need more centrists on both sides. Unfortunately, those days are gone. MAGA nut jobs are the GOP. Just miss the days when from when the dems and reps both had centrists that could work together to get things done. Not all this rancor from both sides.

What's ironic about your statements is MAGA is actually normal. MAGA by and large supports policies that conform to traditional Judeo-Christian values. It's the Dems who are now the leftist wingnuts. They took a woke left turn in 2020, embracing open borders, defunding police forces, and pretending that biological boys could become biological girls. They veered so far away from normal, that even traditional liberals got scared away. It was looney-tunes land.

Romney at least tried to do what was right,

Aside from being a corporatist shill, his best known moments were refusing to eat a Chick-Fll-A sandwich when running for president, legalizing gay marriage and gay adoption as governor and shutting down Christian adoption agencies who refused to go along with it, and state level Obamacare before it was force fed to the nation.

Romney never tried to do what was right. Unfortunately his replacement does not seem to be much better.

Maybe someday we can get rid of Cornyn, McConnell, and the coven of witches who instinctively side with democrats.

There is a center between a 15% tax rate and a 35% tax rate.

There is no center between

...nuclear war and no nuclear war.
...men can become pregnant and men cannot become pregnant.
...transing the kids and not transing the kids.
...censorship and free speech
...the demand to submit to crime and the right to self defense

The democrats have consistently come down on the side of the first half of each of these statements, the republicans on the other. Once upon a time the political left and the political right shared a vision for the future of America and differed on the methods to get there. There is no longer a shared vision. The social compact is broken. There are no centrists in 2024.

What you are seeing is a war for the future of the nation fought with plowshares. So long as the electoral process remains constitutional, it will remain in the realm of plowshares. But I noticed that Senate democrats just introduced a bill to do away with the electoral college. They have learned nothing.

It's incredible to me that so-called conservatives immediately call for compromise with the current iteration of the party you correctly described.

I suspect there will be things we can still find common ground on, but any "conservative" calling for compromise with the evil (yes, evil) worldview currently held by Democrat leadership - a worldview roundly rejected by the American people - either isn't thinking clearly or isn't really all that conservative.

It should not be the Republican's job at this point to reach out to Dems and find issues on which we can agree, which seems to be what you are suggesting. There is a mandate in place, and Repubs should use it, just like Biden did when he came into office. First order of business is not finding common ground.

It will take time to find those things we can find common ground on. Among other things, it will take Dems moderating their current positions. Humbling defeats have a way of doing that, but it's not going to be immediate, nor should it be first order of business. The Dems have to show a willingness to move away from their bat-**** crazy positions and return to some semblance of normal.

lol....no

Liberal-Conservatives in the party want to be known as Reagan Republicans now days (trying to wrap their views in the banner of Reagan)

Not to mention the gall of these liberal-conservative types (aka Rockefeller-Ford type Republicans) were the ones who opposed Reagan at every turn when he ran for President.

They and their Media allies tried to paint Reagan as a radical and dangerous right-winger who needed to be stopped. They constantly colluded with Liberal Democrats to try and skuttle Reagan and his political movement.

They were the original #never Trumpers.....but it was #never Reagan at the time.

laughably un-true

[the Reagan coalition in the Republican Party, which centered around Ronald Reagan and his administration throughout all of the 1980s consisted of five factions: the libertarians, the traditionalists, the anti-communists, the neoconservatives, and the religious right ]

The modern MAGA movement is very much a continuation of this tradition.

With the biggest difference being a dislike of the neo-cons (after decades of foreign policy disasters in the Middle East)

Well, there are a few others...
  • working with Congress
  • immigration
  • Reagan's 11th Amendment? (Do Not Speak Poorly of a fellow GOP member)
  • Free Trade
  • Embracing equality of all

Reagan's conservatism is not the GOP. The GOP is a Populist party. You can make up all the excuses, say Reagan didn't want to do Amnesty. But, he did it. You can say he didn't want to work with the Dems, but he did it.
