To answer your original question I would say it depends on the time period, historically UK and France were solid allies, I don't know about now though

Japan and South Korea are good ones

Thanks for your response. It's pretty clear Europe is in the toilet, UK is throwing people into prison for harmless opinions and France hasn't been sane since 1970.

South Korea is good, Japan is better, but keep an eye on Vietnam, they have stood up to China well beyond their weight class.

Argentina also deserves some attention, they have kept Brazil from dominating South America for some time and often take pro-US positions.

Israel may or may not count as one of our best friends, but they are vital to keeping the Middle East from becoming the next Baltics. Go look at 1905-1912 for the context.

Canada and Mexico may not be enemies, but they absolutely are not our friends at the government level.

Due to the complexity of issues in today's world, and the potential repercussions of wrong decisions, we do need leaders who are strong enough to sit down together to work out agreements in the best interests of their people and the future of the world. Currently too many leaders and in some cases too many people are too nearsighted, some, especially towards the end of the spectrum refuse to remove their blinders.
