USS Nimitz is 53 years old, it may be it's last mission

"In March 2025, the Navy announced that Nimitz would deploy one last time, then arrive at her new homeport of Norfolk Naval Station in Virginia no later than 12 April 2026. At that point she will begin the one-year STOP…
One of my Carnival ships that was about 35,000 gross tons was next to the Nimitz in Charlotte Amilie, in the Virgin Islands. It was a brand new ship, about maybe 2 years old. We were not a small ship but next to the Nimitiz, we were one of its lifeboats. We had a crew of several hundred plus about 1,000 passengers. They had some 5-6,000 crew. That thing is huge! You really have to see it.nein51 said:
I remember seeing the Nimitz in the very early 80s as a super young child in Greece. We were stationed at Hellinikon in Athens and they would bring the carriers to Souda Bay, Crete.
Then again in the ME circa the Gulf War.
It's amazing that it's still in service.

Now Iran may send its own invitation to join the fight by taking shots at the 5th fleet or some outposts in Syria or Iraq, but they'd be doing so at their own peril.
Are you rethinking the idea we hold Israel back and Israel is capable of handling things themselves?
That was also such a ridiculous and asinine idea.
They are a complete burden and albatross around America's neck.
If we enter a hot war with Iran - expect Russia, China, and Pakistan to intervene on behalf of Iran.... thus WW3.
Pakistan Defense Minister already said if Israel uses nukes on Iran it will retaliate with nukes on Israel.

Putin is responsible for the deaths of well over a million people. He has been in power in Russia for 24 years. He won the last "election" with 88 percent of the vote. So I don't like cozying up to Putin in any way…but…there may be a touch of validity to the argument that removing them from the G8 was a net negative. For sure there's an argument that no G8 removal equals no BRICS.
I would still prefer that we find a way to normalize relations with Russia that do not include pretending Putin is some benevolent dictator. He isn't.
