I'm agreeing with you on Putin, although "benevolent" may depend upon whom you ask.

Yeah hence why I used the term. He's a dictator for sure. He's not benevolent in any way.

Are you agreeing that only strong men can stand up to death threats and intimidation? I doubt that you are that closed minded, although I do realize that is what some people do believe.

Strong men are more likely to show strength than weakness under such circumstances.

No one knows what they will do until confronted with a crisis. But certain personality types are likely to handle trying times better than others.

So I don't like cozying up to Putin in any way…but…there may be a touch of validity to the argument that removing them from the G8 was a net negative. For sure there's an argument that no G8 removal equals no BRICS.

I would still prefer that we find a way to normalize relations with Russia that do not include pretending Putin is some benevolent dictator. He isn't.
I agree. This seems like a small thing to bring Russia back. Reducing the amount of interaction and ability to have Russia interacting with the West is a mistake. The more isolated Russia is, the more dangerous.

Going to be virtually impossible to do that while they are involved in BRICS and actively at war with Ukraine.

Now if you could talk them in to ending the war and negotiate their exit from BRICS to the G8 that would be one hell of a result. I don't think that's going to happen.

Younger Americans think isolationism is workable foreign policy (it isn't). Likely because the world has been pretty quiet on the war front the last 20 or so years. Peace is not the default for humanity so expecting last peace is probably a mistake.

Sure would like it to last as long as humanly possible though.

America hasnt been involved in a major war since WWII. The nuclear threat during the Cold War cooled the heels of the nuclear giants. While Vietnam affected some, most Americans weren't really affected by it. Or protested against it. It's literally been generations since our rank and file had any possible/probable threat to our countryside. Even WWI and WWII were on the other side of the ponds for the most part.

Are you kidding me? This is such a specious statement.

America has been at war in the Middle East (because of Israel) for the entire lives of young Americans.

We just left Afghanistan a few years ago.

The lesson learned from the follies of your generation is stop getting involved in foreign wars that dont concern us. We always lose and we end up much poorer and weaker.

And why do we have so many useless bases over there costing us billions to maintain...well for this exact moment. To bait America into a war. Who ordered these bases to be built? The Zionists who took over our government. All of the soldiers over there are mercenaries of Israel and are not serving the interests of the American people.

All those resources should be diverted to helping ICE and securing our borders.

We were invaded by 30-40 million people during Bidens failed Presidency.

This is a nonsequitor.

This is like saying gun manufacturers are responsible if someone uses their gun commit a crime against another person.

Every murder, every robbery... the victim has the right to sue the gun manufacturer.

We are not complict just bcs they are using American made weapons... most of these weapons were given to them for free because they deceived the American people into believing they would be used for defensive purposes.

you are mixing immigration with defense. The two have nothing to do with each other. Whether it was an "invasion" is your opinion and definitely not in the same context as Ukraine or Taiwan . If I sneak into your house while your door is ajar, it's still trespassing. I dont need to kick your door in.

Crossing our territorial border illegally is an invasion, not immigration... just because they weren't carrying assault rifles and waving foreign flags doesn't make it any less so.

I think it's near impossible to claim Vietnam didn't affect most Americans.

I agree on the home front. Attacking US soil would be very difficult and the backlash would be insane. I don't think anyone would ask for that smoke.
Vietnam was the last war that ubiquitouly effected all Americans not only financially but fatally.

My dad had several Frat brothers who died there and was days away from enlisting before Nixon ended the draft.
I strongly disagee with you. Many, if not most folks in the USA were NOT affected by Vietnam. And I'm one of the only people here, maybe the only one, that lost a brother there (Paksong, Laos, Dec 1972). Many, if not most folks were ambivalent about it.

And I was in the last draft. Not selected as Nixon ended it, but I was #022. Most of the Vietnam stuff was about the war protests. It was NOTHING like WWI or WWII where tons of folks lost at least one family member.

I agree that certain personality types are more likely to handle trying times better than others. I would hope those odds increase when the leader has such qualities, in addition to having other people with similar qualities around the leader.

Maybe not to the extent of WW2... but Vietnam was still the last major American war.

We see this on this board... all of the Never-Trumper Republicans support fighting Israel's wars.... that is no surprise. But now we are seeing a lot of the fake conservatives who supported MAGA but are now putting the interests of Israel ahead of America

That is BS. No one on here said a world about the US fighting Israels war. Not one person called for troops. I swear you guys just make **** up.

I've only seen one of two support boots on the ground ... but I have seen at least a dozen call for US dropping bombs.

Last I checked dropping bombs on another country means you are at war.
I have only seen people say if US shipping is attacked, then whoever attacks pays. That should be anytime.

Of the "invasion" what percentage would you say had evil intent?
What do you think would happen if you were able to close all those useless bases?
Would any be taken over by our adversaries?
Would out influence increase?
You think we put them there so we could be baited into war? I don't believe you believe that.
