It's not government's job to provide health care or anything else to citizens exception protection. It's government's job to make it easier for everyone to provide for themselves.

Health Care - What do you political science theories say Government's role is when cost becomes an issue and the number of people not being covered rises? Those theories were in created when health care was affordable. Government's role changes as the environment changes. A Government cannot have a system with 17% of the population having a barrier to health care and 32% having medical debt. Something has to change. People literally are not leaving jobs because of health insurance and the jobs want them gone right when the hit the age that they need it.
Get used to more Government, as technology rises and cost to provide that technology rises with a growing population the 1920's definitions of the role of government is going to change. It has already happened in Scandnavia and other places. It is coming here.
Look at it this way as an academic, it is an exciting time. You are going to witness changes in social structure we have not seen since the last time the "Haves" didn't care about the "Have Nots" too much and we ended up with the New Deal. Trump is the last gasp of the old system. Too much has happened, to much of a gap between the wealthy and the not.
