Health Care - What do you political science theories say Government's role is when cost becomes an issue and the number of people not being covered rises? Those theories were in created when health care was affordable. Government's role changes as the environment changes. A Government cannot have a system with 17% of the population having a barrier to health care and 32% having medical debt. Something has to change. People literally are not leaving jobs because of health insurance and the jobs want them gone right when the hit the age that they need it.

Get used to more Government, as technology rises and cost to provide that technology rises with a growing population the 1920's definitions of the role of government is going to change. It has already happened in Scandnavia and other places. It is coming here.

Look at it this way as an academic, it is an exciting time. You are going to witness changes in social structure we have not seen since the last time the "Haves" didn't care about the "Have Nots" too much and we ended up with the New Deal. Trump is the last gasp of the old system. Too much has happened, to much of a gap between the wealthy and the not.

The number of attacks on ICE by crazies is up because in the past it almost never happened. The Dems are obsessed with keeping all illegals in this country to help them steal elections and they have no respect for the law or the constitution.

Cost is an issue because the government keeps trying to control everything. That's why socialism ALWAYS fails. The govt does not create anything, they only destroy. Every penny the govt spends on anything is first taken from those who earned it. Politicians and bureaucrats are terrible at managing things. An honest look at everything they do confirms that.

You dont trust that health care coverage is a major problem for a large portion of the US or that people have medical bills they cant pay? That is fake news? Seriously? Take out the numbers. Who cares if they are exact, it is the largest problem for a good portion of the US. Most small business owners couldn't afford it without the ACA. This is not a huge leap whether MSN or Newsmax.

HC is a major problem. I pay $2K per year here. Had a moped wreck on an island . 2 ambulance rides, CT, MRI,same night . You cant get either of those same day in US. Weeks. Visit from Orthopedic Surgeon. 5 meds. Walked out and I saw the bill and it was $1800 US. Got all my $ back. Bad news is I still pay $2100 per month (not year) for BCBS of Texas. Well it sucks, so through in a concierge Dr. Mr. Drs were all US or European trained. Oh, got a routine teeth cleaning , x rays ect. $25

I do care that health care is a problem and I've already explained why it is: the govt keeps messing with it. I care even more that the morons in Washington think the solution is giving more power to the incompetent fools who keep ruining it. I don't trust them to fix it at all. I've studied US HC a lot . It's very broken. Just take a look the insurance carriers profitability. The whole thing needs to be burned down and re created. The Insurance Companies Lobby are the ones who came up with "Socialized Medicine". It stuck like nobody's business. I don't know the solution, but it would probably include a version of single payer (not sure that is the solution). I do know we are the only industrial nation that does HC this way. We lived in Paris for a couple of years and the HC was very good and affordable. Like I said, I don't know the solution, but I do know what we have isn't working.
