Easy! Low fat diet, low protien diet, highly processed high carb foods with known ingredients that cause metabolic syndromes. Instead of fixing it, we push a narrative that a calorie is a calorie no matter where it comes from.. this is utter nonsense. Glucose sugar uses a completely different pathway and is invovled in the creation of ATP. Fructose doesnt do that, it actually inhibits ATP production. Processed food with high fructose corn syrup is alarmingly bad for you.
Fructose processes on a similar pathway as alcohol. We know we are supposed to limit alcohol or it causes damage to the liver. Why do you think we now are finding non alcoholic fatty liver disease in kids?! Fructose!
Tip of the iceberg but our food is the cause of our health issues. High insulin levels in the blood prevent the body from using fat stores, you literally cant use your stored body fat if your insulin level is too high.
The traditional low fat high carb diet litterally makes people fat and causes cardio and metabolic diseases.

Look up the pathway of fructose.. learn something. It responds nothing like glucose in the body. While every cell in the body can use glucose, the liver is the only organ that can metabolize fructose in significant amounts.(like alcohol)
