Saw where the Guadalupe rose 26 feet in one hour. Rains had been predicted for three days, but folks didn't imagine that kind of quick rise.

The crest is now headed for Spring Branch. The silver link bibs that Canyon Lake is only half full so it can absorb all this water. It should not result in further flooding here in New Braunfels or downstream. That is, if there isn't any more heavy rain. Rain is in the forecast so it depends on how much we get.

I remember the flood of July 2003. We lived near the Guadalupe and walked down the street to watch the flood. What a spectacle that was. It lasted three days. The city cancelled the fireworks because of it.

I think that was 2002.... it was a big one.

Thanks for the update my friend. I raced home from South Padre Island today to find a little more than a 1/4" in my rain gauge in Geronimo. Most of the rain apparently fell north and west of New Braunfels and Geronimo (Seguin).

My Lord, I did not realize twenty kids were unaccounted for. Praying for them and their families.

This has just been awful to track. Earlier today reporters were already calling out the sheriff (if I remember correctly) of one of the counties for why there was no warning.

Was this the leftovers from the tropical storm last weekend that hit Mexico or a different storm system?

Right, 2002. New Braunfels also had a major flash flood in 1972, although my family was not living in Texas at the time.

The Hill Country experienced other floods over the years, not always on the Guadalupe. I remember one on the Medina River that threatened an old dam. I don't remember the results. There also was one in Wimberly. IIRC, San Marcos and Austin had some flooding, maybe all at the same time. That's the ones I recall.

This area of central Texas is sometimes known as Flash Flood Alley because of how oft we n it happens.

Most of the rain was to the west: Comfort, Kerrville, etc. That's where all the damage has been so far. But more rain is expected so who knows? I sa

That said, I saw a photo of flooding in Victoria. That must have been from rain down there maybe from a separate storm.s a forecast for 4.5 inches tonight in San Marcos & Austin.

Everyone downriver, be safe!!

Not sure what has happened to our weather forecasters. Most of the time they are spot on. On more than one occasion this year, a 10 percent chance of rain has resulted in a couple of inches of rain.

Illustrates that the experts still don't know for sure. It's still a guessing game to some extent. However, I've found that the forecasts are usually reasonably accurate within a few days. The further ahead they look, the more they are guessing.

It's laughable how many people still believe that the "experts" can predict what the climate will be like 50 or 100 years from now unless we give them our money & freedom and revert to a Stone Age existence while ignoring their frivolous carbon footprint. The climate cult is a huge scam.

They happen on the Big Thompson River in Colorado periodically. Dozens drown in the river canyons almost every time.

He's saying the National Weather Service didn't predict it. Look for them to get lots of blame in the future.

This really hit home. My daughter went to Waldemar which is up the hill from Mystic where many of the girls were lost. Waldemar is on the guad but higher elevation and was largely spared. She went there for a month every summer from 1st-12grade. Sadly, we know the family of one of the girls who was lost. Tragic.

What I heard was remnants of a tropical storm and hurricane came together.

lots of new subdivisions and shopping centers and razed hilltops and streets and driveways......

that and an extreme rain event creates this nightmare.

very sad outcome.

Were they swept out of cabins? Or on the river? Im trying to envision the genesis of this tragedy that swept so many away but never been on that part of the guadalupe.

I saw on TV a report of that. The TV reporter interviewed the man who discovered and helped rescue her. Unfortunately, her parents and aunt and uncle were swept away.

By the time many woke up there was likely many feet of water in the cabin. So no way to walk to higher ground. And the whole cabins were swept away I believe, as well as RV's. Truly sad.

I don't think that family were in cabins. Maybe tents or outside.

The girls at Camp Mystic were inside the cabins when they were washed away, according to a TV report yesterday.
