Historical fact: The regular flooding of the Nile and Yellow Rivers were important to the development of early Egyptian and Chinese civilizations.

I can't even imagine the destructive physics for that to be able to happen.

Many of these folks will never be found.

Went canoeing down the Guadalupe with my girlfriend back in the day. We were going to port into the landing there about Gruene Hall (if memory serves). She lost her paddle when we were in a swift current and I couldn't control the canoe. I pushed the canoe toward the shore, and she was able to swim out of the current but it caught me. Pushed me under the bridge and the aluminum canoe folded on me, pinning my leg in it and holding me mostly underwater. Took all I could do to pry my leg out of the canoe (and I am scary strong) and swim out of the current about a mile past the bridge. Just thinking about that when all this July 4th happened

For more than 15 years I owned & operated a small business that designed, built, installed and maintained warning systems for flood prone areas. At the peak of my business, we had equipment all along the Guadalupe River, including 2 sites a few miles upstream from Mystic Crossing called Smith Crossing #1 and Smith Crossing #2. We also had sites in Reagan Wells, all along the Blanco River including Wimberly, and many other areas.
In 2015, most of my equipment along the Blanco was destroyed during the Wimberly flood.

My point is this... I am extremely familiar with the area around Mystic, Hunt, Ingram and the rest of Kerr County. That camp is extremely remote. It was very hard to get a reliable cell signal in that valley. The watershed upstream is extremely large, and spreads out for miles. All of the rain that falls for about 30+ square miles, gets channeled into that valley, just a mile or so upstream from the camp. So the camp was hit with the confluence of about 1/4 of Kerr Countys rainfall. Dozens of creeks and gulley washes dump into the Guadalupe, just above the Mystic crossing area. It creates a very dangerous situation.

Perhaps sirens would help, but they would need to be remotely triggered and have battery backup systems. The electricity in that area of Kerr County goes out all the time during major storm events. All of my equipment was running on batteries and solar panels for that reason.

Sadly, I had to shutdown my business in 2020 because I was squeezed out by cheap Chinese products. The competitions product was much easier on the budget, but it also failed a lot easier during heavy lightning.

I will say that unless you have been in that area of the Guadalupe during a flood event, it is really hard to imagine just how fast the waters can rise and how much damage they can do.

Thank you for your insight, I referenced this when talking to friends about what the surrounding area is like. If you don't mind my asking, who contracted you when you were doing this work?

In Kerr County, I was working for TXDOT.

Sorry but Mo Ranch is far, far upstream on a different fork of the Guadalupe.

Mo and Mystic have something in common... very narrow river valley with high/steep hills that makes it very fast & dangerous during a flood.

Music has more creeks & valleys upstream that dump into the Guadalupe, and it's also the site where a major creek dumped into the Guadalupe.

Mo Ranch is on FM1340 along the North Fork of the Guadalupe while Mystic is on TX39 along the South Fork of the Guadalupe. The two forks merge at Hunt, TX where the river valley widens out considerably.

In my opinion, the TX39 valley is more dangerous because of its narrow and steep formation for more miles, and it's more remote location. You can get to Mo Ranch by going further north on IH-10 to TX41 and the come down from the north. The back way to Mystic requires going all the way to TX83, but then all the western crossing will also be flooded.

The crossings upstream from Mo Ranch have higher brides and flood less. The crossing upstream and downstream from Mystic are all very low and flood easily.

Just a little info for everyone.

Do they still monitor this area with flood with flood monitoring equipment?

I believe so, but I'm out of the loop since 2020.

One problem is that my competitors only use pressure sensors.
The advantage is that they can measure almost any depth. My sensors were electromagnetic. They registered depth as the water rose up enough to touch the sensor stick. Each stick was 4 feet in length and we could stack up to 4. So our sensors void be over topped.
In reality, once the water is more than 8 feet over the road.... does it really matter how much higher it goes? Once it's that high, it's time to evacuate everything down steam.

Both sensor types can give you readings on how fast the water is rising, which is vital info.
My sensors could also measure the turbidity of the water, which gives insight into how much runoff is occurring in the moment. My sensors would only fail if the brdige or structure that they were attached to, was washed away by the flood.
Pressure denatured have one big issue, they can fail or give false readings if they get clogged by debris. As we have all seen, the flood waters buried trucks & RVs under silt, pebbles, sticks and other debris.
It would be amazing if the pressure sensors survived long during this flood. They probably worked long enough to register the flood waters, but quickly failed due to the debris in the initial wall of water.

So the alert would go to TXDOT, the monitoring company, or both?

What would be the ballpark amount of warning time between when a sensor would trip where you had them placed upriver of Mystic and when flood waters would start arriving?

Thank God you managed to get out of that. That crossing in Gruene was very low! I think it still is but I'm unsure. I live in NB but rarely go to Gruene because of the crowds.

I think that's the 6th river in Texas to flood in the past 9 days! Add to this the flooding in NM, NC, Chicago, & elsewhere. Europe too.

Maybe God is trying to tell us something.

Probably not!

But we must remember the true meaning of the rainbow: after the flood God promised not to destroy the earth with a flood again. The rainbow was His sign of this covenant. Genesis 9:11-13

Thats the crossing. The power of the water there appeared to be much stronger than other parts of the river

I've seen water so high it went over that bridge and that wasn't really a flood. It was because water was being released from Canyon dam at 5,000 cfs or do. Back in the 80s, my brother worked for one of the rafting companies and led groups on the river at that level. Different times.

And yet God promised there would never again be a global flood to destroy the world.

OTOH, Biblical prophecy does say that when the world is getting near the end it would be like the days of Noah in which the thoughts of man were continuously evil. (I'm going by memory. Not a direct quote).

Here's the scary part 1

God promised he would never again wipe out most of Humanity with a flood. He never said He wouldn't repeat what happened to Sodom & Gomorrah.

Scary Part 2

The Revelation is pretty clear that some really harsh judgments are on the way for those who defy God. Don't know exactly when, but when you read about people wishing to die but unable to die, that's terrifying.

Scary Part 3

Lake of Fire. Enough said.

Yea, Sky News showed the headlines the MSM put out when Trump was shot a year ago.

They were amazingly biased against Trump. All of them.

Stuff like "Trump stumbles down and secret service had to help him up".
Literally insanely biased.

The power of water so exceeds the amount of strength a human can produce, I am so glad you were able to make it out. The physics involved to do what the water has done here is amazing, I heard a cabin was found buried under the stream bed just like this F250. A person doesn't stand a chance if they can't get free from the current. Miracles occured in my mind, with people being rescued out of trees. So many of those trees ended up being uprooted themselves.

Yes. The prophecies in Revelation (& elsewhere) are terrifying. The scariest part is how easy it is to avoid those things and how so many people in their arrogance & selfishness will ignore the warnings & choose eternal torment.
