This is a great picture. I am 100% for US Marshalls and other Federal Law Enforcement personnel being used to augment local Police. Well done.
As I said, it is not the "What" it is the "How". There is a huge difference between Federal Law Enforcement and military. I am not for Military combat or support troops for law enforcement outside of MP units. Putting troops and civilians together is not a good idea nor look for the US.

Then yes..... it might been necessary for State authorities to step in....or for Federal authorities to step in if its Washington DC (a Federal district). The Army reserve might be needed in those situations to help police or deal with riots
Policing crime is one of the key and listed purposes of Government.
Using Military troops against your own citizens has always been frowned upon by Republics since, I don't know maybe Caesar crossing the Rubicon...
1. Lets leave aside the Republican President who did that on a massive scale in 1861...against the wishes of the States and Citizens located there.
2. The great Republican President (and war hero) Eisenhower used Federal troops to enforce the law in 1957

And that was of course against the wishes of State leaders at the time.

I should have also pointed out that one of the greatest Republican presidents of all time also called in troops against local wishes (thought not as a President but at a elected governor)
