enThe fact that there are large swaths of cities rife with crime tells me the municipal voting is suspect. Are the people there truly choosing to live that way by reelecting the same group of people, or are they just convinced that the system is rigged.
Maybe the people of Washington, DC were just glad to see violent crime at a 30-year low before Trump started his martial law "crime deterrence" operation.
You mean the heavily fudged numbers 30-year low per the DC Police Union?
Geez, pick your numbers. You can get them to say anything, welcome to Big Data. AI will slice and give it to get your desired result.
True, but in the case of DC, they absolutely lied. They changed homicides to home accidents, even they they were obviously murdered and so forth. That was from the DC Police Union, re what they were told by the 'up high' to do
I am not a fan of National Guard deployments for performance issues. I do not like to see US troops or tactical police patrolling US streets. This is a bad precedent.
Yet it had to be done IMO. This is where the entire USA operates from. The House, the Senate, the POTUS, they are alll there. In an unsafe space. Murders, rape, car jackings and so forth on a daily/weekly basis. Absolutely corrupt.
Come on, it has been the same since the 60s. Baltimore, Philly, Detroit, Albuquerque, Houston are worse and feel less safe. Hell the Bronx in NY is a war zone. We sending in Nat Guard? Next time a Dem wins and they will at some point, do Red cities get occupied over diversity violations? Or climate issues? This is a slippery slope.
I have no problem as DC is not a state and has a Mayor whose administration is facing multiple federal investigations, and several city officials who served under her have been charged with corruption.
Investigations within the Bowser administration
- Four FBI probes: As of early 2025, four FBI investigations were underway regarding alleged corruption and mismanagement within the District government.
- Bribery charges: In one investigation, a former deputy director for the Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement was criminally charged for accepting a $10,000 bribe to influence city contracts.
- Licensing scheme: Another probe uncovered a "pay-to-play" scheme at the Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection involving the sale of fraudulent cosmetology licenses. A former board member later confessed to their involvement.
- Missing records: Other investigations have focused on missing financial records and mismanagement at several city agencies.
- Ethics complaint: In 2025, an ethics complaint was filed against Bowser related to her travel. A civic watchdog group requested an investigation into who paid for trips to Qatar, Georgia, and Las Vegas after the mayor's office provided conflicting information about funding.
- Crime data probe: In August 2025, the House Oversight Committee launched an investigation into allegations that DC crime data was being intentionally manipulated. The mayor's office confirmed an ongoing investigation into reports that a police commander was put on administrative leave for allegedly altering crime statistics.
Distinguishing past events
- The current situation differs from the scandal involving former DC Mayor Vincent Gray. He was not charged, but his 2010 campaign was investigated for alleged illegal payments to a rival candidate. A top aide pleaded guilty to federal charges.
- Other former city leaders, including council members, have also been charged and convicted of corruption in past administrations
Add, FIFA is bringing about 6 million people to the US next year. Washington DC is one of the prime destinations. We dont want our national monuments with grafitti all over them, visitors murdered, raped or robed
Clean it up and keep it clean! This is supposed to be a special place!!
