Hmm, maybe we should have made a deal to get some inspectors in there or something. Maybe something with an international coalition, and verifiable benchmarks.

We could call it something like a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action...

Inspections were obviously ineffective. Enriching apparently never stopped. Inspectors can only go where someone has gone before. They don't get to go to any sites they don't know about. Iran is not a small country. Lots of places to hide stuff. Lots of black market to work with.

Enriching was never supposed to stop. It was strictly controlled in terms of both the level of enrichment and the size of the stockpiles, and there's zero evidence that the controls were ineffective while the agreement was in place.

Yet it obviously continued somewhere in Iran beyond the allowed percentage.

Not while the agreement was in place. When they finally decided to exceed the limit, they announced exactly when, where, and why it would happen.

You know, in 2020 I would have agreed with that statement. I would have been all in that Iran needed to be destroyed. But, the last 6 years, especially the last 2, have changed my views.

I am not sure I believe they were doing it. Not one bit of proof has been found, it is all buried. All we have is Bibi and Trump telling us this is needed. I don't trust or believe either. Both will tell us whatever we want to hear to get their way. Kent, who was bragged upon when appointed, resigned over it. Now he is not credible, imagine that.

So, I do not believe they were close or an imminent threat. Definitely not one worth this.

That's hogwash. They didn't get to 60% enrichment by pausing during the agreement they had no intention of fully abiding by.

This trope needs to end. It harkens to the isolationist view of "not dying for Europe" in the late 1930s. Threats are threats whether there is an ally or not.

They weren't required to stop enrichment. They were allowed to produce low-enriched uranium, which is by far the most time-consuming part of the process. From there it only takes a few weeks to produce 60 percent.

A China Coast Guard vessel has reportedly rammed a Philippine boat during a refueling mission in the South China Sea, escalating tensions in the already fraught maritime region. The incident occurred amidst the ongoing territorial dispute between China and the Philippines, particularly in the contested areas of the Spratly Islands. This aggressive maneuver highlights the strained relations and the lack of progress in diplomatic talks between the two nations. The ramming of a government vessel rather than civilian traffic underscores the seriousness of the encounter, suggesting a heightened level of coercion short of open conflict.

You're probably confusing it with the time needed to reach 60% enrichment starting with natural uranium. They were starting with 3+%, so most of the work was already done.

No. It takes at least 5 years with their equipment to get from 3 to 60%.

VIENNA, April 17 (Reuters) - Iran has started the process of enriching uranium to 60% fissile purity at an above-ground nuclear plant at Natanz, the U.N. nuclear watchdog said on Saturday, confirming earlier statements by Iranian officials.

The move has complicated talks aimed at reviving Iran's nuclear deal with major powers as it is a big step towards producing weapons-grade uranium.

Iran had previously only reached 20% purity, and that was already a breach of the deal, which says Iran can only enrich to 3.67%.

Iran made the step up to 60% in response to an explosion that damaged equipment at the larger, underground Fuel Enrichment Plant at Natanz. Tehran has blamed Israel and named a man wanted in connection with the blast.

"The Agency today verified that Iran had begun the production of UF6 enriched up to 60%... at the (above-ground) Natanz Pilot Fuel Enrichment Plant," the International Atomic Energy Agency said in a statement.

UF6 is uranium hexafluoride, the form in which uranium is fed into centrifuges for enrichment.

A confidential IAEA report to member states seen by Reuters provided more details.

"According to Iran's declaration to the Agency, the enrichment level of the UF6 produced at PFEP was 55.3% U-235. The Agency took a sample of the produced UF6 for destructive analysis to independently verify the enrichment level declared by Iran. The results of this analysis will be reported by the Agency in due course," the report said.

I thought he was going to name names from the files if they weren't released??????

He did.

Thomas Massie names 14 people he says should be investigated over Epstein

No I meant didn't he say he say the files and was going to release the names he saw if the files weren't released?

There were a handful of members of Congress making this claim...... and none of them have said anything more than somebody should be "investigated" when they have claimed to have seen in the documents.
