It seems that every election year the GOP candidates in statewide races are behind in the polls and end up winning in November, often by sizable margins. It's been this way for 30 years and there is no reason to think it will be different now.
From what I'm seeing, rural Texans are pissed about Data Centers. And are blaming Abbott. (and Republicans).
They may not come home.
That's the current-day equivalent of opposing motorized vehicles or the internet. The states that go forward with these are going to be way ahead of the ones that don't.
How so?
My read is that current design is the problem. There's a way to design data centers that use less water. I also hear that there's a humming that happens 24/7 that drives residents crazy.
I don't think people are opposed to the growth. I think they're upset that the current systems is driving up their energy cost, polluting the water table and taxing on mental health.
All legitimate concerns.
Government has to do better at servicing citizens as well as business.
Most data centers use less water than 2 In-N-Out restaurants & less than golf courses. Do they deliver scars water? I think they recycle it
The new ones (BYOE) bring your own energy
Don't know how you solve the humming problem
Yep. The new ones I'm familiar with are doing all their own power generation and using closed loop water systems.
There are issues to work through, for sure, and they will continue to improve, but our federal government and anyone with any sense knows that we have to stay in front of China on AI development, humming be damned. The amount of money being thrown at these things is staggering. People complaining about them are old men yelling at clouds.
As far as economic impact goes, it would be difficult to overstate the economic benefits of just the data center campus that Elon is building now just southeast of College Station.
