the SBC? Not just them. The RC also limits pastoral roles for women.

My understanding is this: women are supposed to have an active role in the church. How many women leaders in the OT?

Priscilla teaches Apollos (Acts 18:26)
Phoebe carries & explains Romans (Rom. 16:12)
Junia is highly respected by the apostles (Rom. 16:7)
Euodia and Syntyche are Paul's "co-workers" (Phil. 4:3)

Its all Misunderstood. Paul told the women to stop chit chatting in church and focus on the reason for gathering. A woman cant prophesy and be silent.

The Holy Spirit came upon plenty of women during pentacost where they began to prophesy and speak in tongues.

The big clue for me is where Paul said it was forbidden, just like the law says(the Law - the Torah doesnt say it, the Talmud says its shameful for women to speak. Paul was rebuking the Talmud- mans law.

Paul wrote women should learn in full submission and silence(top attributes of any male disciple) in an era where women werent supposed to learn at all, he equalized them to male disciples.

Greek to English translation loses things.

Miriam was one of the first to pick up an instrument and lead in worship (Exodus 15:20). But this wasn't her only ministry role. Micah 6:4 names Miriam as a leader of the nation, along with Moses and Aaron.
Deborah was not a church but the entire nation (Judges 4-5)
Huldah the prophetess had a leading role in the restoration. (2 Kings 22)
Esther (this one could be debatable since there is no role in a church)
Joel 2:28 says your sons and daughters will have the ability to prophesy

Okay. Don't disagree. Seems weird the SBC still has a hard-on for women pastors 50 years after the fundamentalist takeover when the denomination is disappearing.

Bearing false witness.

Two women were the first people on earth to see the risen Christ and bring news of his resurrection (Matthew 28:1-10).

The prohibition of women in the pulpit in no way prevents a woman from sharing the gospel, and God is well pleased when they do. He just doesn't want them being pastors.

The SBC has gotten a great deal wrong over the past few decades organizationally, specifically Russell Moore and the ERLC along with the last few presidents. But this isn't one of those things.

Scripture says it.

Tradition says it.

Fruit is evidence of it. There hasn't been a single denomination that has started ordaining women that hasn't gone off the rails doctrinally, morally, or both.

Scripture says it. No, Paul said it. He said that we free from the law and then promptly added more laws including It is his opnion.

Tradition says it.Sure tradition said. This tradition was male dominated. The Catholic are 1500 years late and the SBC is what 150 years - all were male dominated clergy who did not want to give up power.

Fruit is evidence of it. There hasn't been a single denomination that has started ordaining women that hasn't gone off the rails doctrinally, morally, or both. Standing up for principle will cause shrinking said Jesus and these denominations.
P.S. SBC churches are also losing members.

where specifically in scripture does it say that? I covered the two main instances that are commonly referred to in my prior post.

I'm not arguing for female pastors. Based on the natural elements of how men and women are, men make better senior leaders and women make better middle managers.

Edit:
Went back and read first Timothy and Paul does say that he does not allow a woman to exercise authority over a man. This relates back to the relationship of Adam having the authority and the responsibility.

Only men are to pastor and lead congregations. Women do have important roles in ministry, and they can lead other women and they can lead children. Such as leading women's Bible studies and teaching Sunday school etc

"Denomination is disappearing" is a little strong

The SBC has declined…but far less than the mainline Protestant Church bodies that are in free fall.

And most of its decline seems to be in losing members to bleed over into Evangelical/Bible churches that have essentially the same theological beliefs.

And not just the Roman Catholics (1 billion)

But the Eastern Orthodox as well (300 million)

And the oriental Orthodox like the Copts of Egypt (75 million in all their branches)

Crazy how the super majority of the world's Christian denominations…including the most ancient ones with apostolic succession and a deep reliance on handed down tradition…have all rejected the concept of female leadership.

I guess only the modern smaller (and dying out ) Protestant denominations got it right and really understood the Bible.

A------ counterargument is that historical consensus, while important, is not necessarily decisive in determining faithfulness to the gospel. Christians have revised long-held interpretations before when they believed Scripture and the work of the Holy Spirit required it.
For example:
  • For centuries, most Christians accepted slavery, yet many later concluded that the broader biblical witness to human dignity and freedom was incompatible with slavery.
  • The fact that a majority of Christians have held a position does not automatically make it correct. At various times, majorities have opposed religious liberty, democracy, or vernacular translations of Scripture.
  • "
I argue that the New Testament's overarching principle is expressed in Galatians 3:28: "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus." I contend that restrictions on women in some passages addressed specific cultural situations in the first century rather than establishing universal rules for all churches and all times.
Finally, many would argue that the age or size of a denomination is not, by itself, proof of theological correctness. The central question is not, "What has the majority always believed?" but rather, "What interpretation most faithfully reflects the life, teachings, and mission of Jesus and the witness of Scripture?" Jesus mission was inclusiion of women in the fullness of that mission, not second class humans. All are welcome - lepers, sinners, prostitutes, tax collectors, women

I
I don't know about the Southern Baptists. What I do know is that many secular-minded people are no longer persuaded by traditional doctrines about the Bible, nor can they embrace some of the more literal or supernatural claims promoted by conservative Christians. Beliefs about heaven and hell, as well as strictly literal interpretations of Scripture, are often viewed with skepticism.
Many secular Christians are seeking a faith community and a path of discipleship within the United Methodist Church. The UMC is open to a wide range of theological perspectives and encourages dialogue when disciples wrestle with questions that extend beyond the core beliefs of the Christian faith

There is no "market" for what the UMC is selling…if we are using business terminology

A "Christianity with out tears" and a "Christ without a cross"

Secular liberalism with a haphazardly attached semi-religious veneer

There are just no buyers for that product…or at least the buyers that would be interested in mainline -UMC products are extremely small.

Let people do whatever they are led to do, and nature largely sorts it out.

In the most egalitarian societies, men and women largely tend to settle into stereotypical gender roles. Check out the gender equality paradox. That's because that's generally what they all prefer and what works the best.

But who are you to tell someone they don't have a call? Mind your own business - there's plenty of it.

In general, I see baptists leaving for:

(1) Non-denominational egalitarian churches if they think the SBC is too conservative.
(2) Eastern Orthodoxy, Trad Catholic Churches, and Confessional Lutheranism if they think the SBC is too liberal.
(3) Pentecostal/Charismatic churches if they're tired of the worship team/CCM gateway drug and need a bigger emotional fix.

Just got back from our church's work day. It was a Baptist renunion.

I think that actually explains a lot of it - like maybe more than half.

Both the SBC and the mainline denominations have let themselves become political organizations, which ultimately shrinks your tent - the SBC went right, mainline went left, but the non-denom comes with less extra baggage than either. I'll refrain from my rant about how mixing religion and politics gets you politics and people with different political views should have no problem worshipping and trying to follow Jesus together. But the phenomenon of churches branding more to the right or left is part of the larger cultural phenomenon of the same.

I'll add that it's not that nondenom churches don't have any political viewpoints. They do. They just vary. And they don't have the institutional baggage of saying "I'm SBC" (you must be a knuckle dragger) or "I'm United Methodist" (you must have a lesbian pastor who wears rainbow garb on Sundays).

you have described 2 Timothy 4:3-4

It strikes me as peculiar that your interpretation is always considered the only sound doctrine. Paul wrote that we are free from the law, yet he then established numerous laws for the church. It seems difficult to have it both ways. I will say that Paul says we are to love one another, which to me means let love be your guide, not doctrine, when it comes to women in pulpits.
Paul appears to create further tension when he writes that in Christ "there is neither male nor female" (Galatians 3:28), while elsewhere prescribing different roles for men and women in the church. These passages have been interpreted in various ways by faithful Christians throughout history, suggesting that the issues are more complex than a single position alone can represent "biblical truth."
