Huh, people on here seem to forget that. Trump appointed him and trotted him out night after night. Yet, they talk about it like someone else did it. They also fail to mention they disbanded the Pandemic team Obama had put together.

Trump knew what he was doing. He knew the shutdowns were necessary. He knew the rubes would be looking for someone to blame. Fauci fit the bill, and here we are.

Trump buckled under pressure. Spent too much time watching the polls. Trusted a handful of single-issue experts who ended up being wrong about all sorts of things. He finally realized the error of his ways, but much damage had been done by then.

The craziest takeaways from the Fauci Files:
1. Fauci knew the virus was man-made in January
2. Fauci actively worked to close schools
3. The left-wing media colluded with him to drive an agenda

We knew all of this. Seeing it in stark reality is stark.

If anyone believes anything the left-wing media tells them, he or she only has her/himself to blame for being disinformed.

I wonder how dumb liberals feel right now. They worshipped Fauci, and nearly everything was a lie

Excellent analysis, i agree whole hardily.

Like the single issue expert part, agree. I dont think there was deliberate misleading, but not recognizing the big picture cost/benefit was costly.

COVID playing out like it did was in nobodies best interest, except China....

It doesn't change the fact that Fauci was thought of as a consultant and he consulted differently than what he knew

Fauci has already gotten his pardon from Joe Biden. I think he will plead the 5th on most if not all questions. I expect this much hyped event is going to be a big nothing burger. The big question is, will he show up wearing a mask?
Call it a tax, the people are outraged! Call it a tariff, the people get out their checkbooks and wave their American flags!!!

I am curious, what was written that was inconsistent with what he was saying? He also, said he was keeping him mind open and the Chinese always act like they are hiding something.

What is being missed? Where is the "smoking gun"? What am I missing? It seems to be written by someone trying to figure it out, not hide something.

Maybe read some of the posts and it will help.

The most glaring may be that he knew it was not natural in January 2020. His entire response seemed to be driven by CYA for the fact that he funded the virus and actively colluded with the media and used tax dollars to actively suppress science and anyone that did not toe his CYA line. (most of us already knew this)

Number 1 is incredible to me. I understand lying because you thought it served the greater good (i.e. closing schools and places of work without any evidence it would "slow the spread"), but why are you covering for China? What did Fauci have to gain from that?

I think he had much to gain and much to hide. Hopefully, those motivations will come out in time.
FLBear5630

Where does it say he knew or even knows it is not natural? All he said was that two said natural and the rest thought insertion was possible.

Do you guys ever deal with analysis? You don't say it is one or the other until you are 100% sure it is one or the other. Everything in here reads very close to any emergency response searching for answers. Even on the asymptomatic part he says he is critical of the Chinese data and talked to others to get their view.

Sorry, I thought Fauci was too front and center, but I am not reading a pattern that indicates trying to hide something. He is even happy to hear that the US funding has nothing to do with COVID.

I guess people see what they want. I see the Chinese being not helpful and doing what they do.

He didn't care one bit about the virus, but only to advance himself. What a sick liberal Democrat.

You are: (a) an idiot; (b) evil; ofr (c) both.

Those are simple notes taken over the course of the pandemic that relate dailyu activities. Many execs do this so that they have a clear record of what transpired. The fact that celbrities are included in the notes is a reflection of what happened, not his obsession with fame.

You follow the Trump/Bannon playbook-mislabel the headline in a deciving way knowing that one in a thousand is going to actually read the real information. Then "Fauci cared only about celebrity" becomes an accepted fact in your cult despite being nowhere near the truth. It is intellectually dishonest at best.

So it's normal for most people to include hundreds of instances of hero worship in their diary?

Wow.

What's really damning is his statements in early 2020 that clearly indicate he believed the virus didn't come from the wuhan market but instead the Wuhan lab, only to spend the next six years discrediting that theory.

I agree with your last paragraph, but there is a world in which his views changed as he learned more.

Your first is point is dumb. If you kept a diary and had a phone call with Diana Ross, you would likely right about it. If you regularly testify to congress, give interviews to the media, brief the President and cabinet, yes you right stuff down so you remember.

I was just going by your sources:

Quote:

"The main aim of the lockdown policies was to limit the spread of the virus by increasing social distancing. There are two main ways of achieving this aim: either through providing advice and information to citizens, who then voluntarily adapt their behaviour accordingly; or through coercive measures that impose legal restrictions on the movement of citizens. In practice, all countries opted for a combination of these two approaches. Only the balance of voluntary and coercive measures varied." (Andersson)

"A large majority (>90%) of the Swedish population approved, endorsed, and complied with the Swedish policies, according to repeated public polls conducted during the pandemic by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency." (Bjorkman)

When you compare this with a less than 60% compliance rate in the US, the results aren't surprising. The Swedes paid attention to the science and trusted the guidance they got from public health officials.

So it didn't necessarily start in the market, but when people congregated in the market they got infected from each other as opposed to all of them getting infected from whatever animal there was in the market." Thanks.

My view (figured you would like that word) is that we still don't really know what happened in China for this to develop. Was it animals? Lab? Market an "accelarator"? It is not like it happened in Seattle and we can get all the information. I read it and it seemed like he was searching. The things I look at were:

1 - When others had different ideas, he called meetings and discussed. He didn't shut it down.
2 - He asked questions of others one what they knew.
3 - The writing showed emotion and surprise, like the asymptomatic spreading.
4- He was glad to know that there was not a GOF connection to his money.
Finally, it was in China. Not exactly an open and trusted allie, so who knows.

I am less upset with Fauci and more with Trump and Biden for the Trillions in give aways and the shutting down the economy. I blame both....

Question, where did he say it came from the Wuhan Lab? It reads to me like he didn't know where, when confronted with new info he called meetings to discuss. Isn't that what you do? I do.

We have real problems, today. I don't get the Fauci attention about 6 years ago? There is no smoking gun here? It is all very ambiguous.

I heard someone read a passage from the Fauci Files where he writes the lab as the source and describes the wet market as something else - sorry, having a senior moment but like the catalyst or something like that. Basically it came from the lab but the wet market really spread it into the local population. If that is wrong then I stand corrected.

Thanks.

I think that's completely the opposite of what happened.

1. Fauci was funding gain-of-function research in Wuhan
2. He actively worked to shut down the "lab leak theory" via the use of grants, the media, and politics that would make LBJ blush

The Fauci Files sort or re-affirm what a narcissistic he is ... who has a portrait of themselves in their office. My speculation is he quickly fell in love with his own celebrity. Where I think this likely negatively impacted public policy is he probably worked to ensure he had a place of influence and control even if not necessary. and if that meant stoking hysteria and continuing things he likely knew were pointless just so he could be on TV ever day and sit with celebrities.

It's funny how we have such short memories - the guy was a pariah in February 2020.

Regardless, it all does rest on Trump and Biden for good and bad. Trump's vaccine was positive but overall his handling of the pandemic was not great. However, TDS played a role. I am old enough to remember that his initial instinct was correct to stop all travel to/from China, but he was immediately called T'RACIST and Democrats were on social media and media telling people to go out and eat in Chinatown and go to the Chinese New Year's festivals.

Fauci's opposition to this was where he should have lost credibility: anybody with basic common sense would realize this is the smart thing to do - why do we think China stopped domestic flights to Wuhan? However, the TDSers could not even stop during a pandemic and had to politicize everything and became bastions of disinformation.

I had no issues with Warp Speed, it made sense based on the conditions. I was mad at the cash give away and the shutting the economy. The rest I get.

I don't think NIH funding was for GOF. A lot of accusations, but no documentation of proof.

I am not interested in the popularity or fame crap, I am interested in what was done. I can't find any proof he did anything wrong.

Agreed.

Not sure what you're looking for on the GOF research.

At long last, National Institutes of Health (NIH) principal deputy director Lawrence Tabak admitted to Congress Thursday that US taxpayers funded gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China in the months and years before the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Dr. Tabak," asked Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-Ariz.) of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, "did NIH fund gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology through [Manhattan-based nonprofit] EcoHealth [Alliance]?"
"It depends on your definition of gain-of-function research," Tabak answered. "If you're speaking about the generic term, yes, we did."

I think it does not take a lot of work to realize covering up drove much of Fauci's response to the pandemic. Nothing else explains why most of his effort was directed at shutting down anyone that believed the lab-leak theory (IIRC there were 12 experts that initially believed this and Fauci bullied all but two to reverse course).

Take me at my word I am not being argumentative but genuinely fascinated by your last comment about the personality stuff. When it comes to Trump, it seems that 99% of your opinion is based on personality while conveniently ignoring what is done ... which is why whenever you're asked specifics you tend to get angry because it's easier to yell about "mean tweets" vs. what actually is being done.

You miss my point on Trump. Two points-
1- it is not what he wants to do, it is how he does it. We agree on the what, thr methods he uses are not suitable for national policy.

2- The Presidency is different than any other position, how you do things and how you deal with others matters. He is the US personified. Just like Obama apologizing, Biden's age related mistakes and Clinton's indiscretions were unacceptable, so is Trump's tweets, speeches and rhetoric. It makes the US look bad. Fauci was a lower level apecialist, not the President.

Maybe there are a couple of people using your screen name ... I am old enough to remember you calling anyone that disagrees with you a "fascist" and calling President Trump "radical" and "extreme."

So in which time are you lying? Are you butthurt about policies our mean tweets? You cannot seem to make up your mind.

We agree on the overreaction. I live in FL and was lucky that DeSantis pushed back.

The Trillions and shutting down the economy was ridiculous. My daughter was in Boston and they were ridiculous.

I know for a fact that there were issues with COVID and the elderly. Once they figured out how to treat it, it got better. The initial treatments were not helpful, such as respirators. The vaccine helped a lot of people not end up in a hospital bed.

People forget that we didn't know what it was at the time and even those that suspected a weapon or escaped virus were preparing for worse. Hindsight is 20/20. Trump was in the same boat and Fauci is all he had, I get it.

Trumps ignorance (Not Faucci) is what made COVID worse. He keeps thinking he can BS his way out of situations he creates. (No he didn't create COVID) but he keeps destroying the safeguards we take for granted.

He did it with COVID. He did the same with the JCPOA, NAFTA, Tariffs, DOGE. Now he's going after voting.

We are being Atlantic Citied by this ignoramus.

This is a good example of over reaction right here. Has Trump messed up some things? Yup. All of this in your list? Nope.
Time will better tell if some of his policies you and I don't like will be considered awful in the history books. He might end up being more right about some things than we want to believe.
He was right about a lot of things the first term that lots of pundits and people here thought were bogus. Lots of people hate his braggadocio, and it does overwhelm some of the good he does.
