The edited video looks authentic: Acosta appeared to swiftly chop down on the arm of an aide as he held onto a microphone while questioning President Trump. But in the original video, Acosta's arm appears to move only as a response to a tussle for the microphone. His statement, "Pardon me, ma'am," is not included in the video Sanders shared.
Critics said that video which sped up the movement of Acosta's arms in a way that dramatically changed the journalist's response was deceptively edited to score political points. That edited video was first shared by Paul Joseph Watson, known for his conspiracy-theory videos on the far-right website Infowars.
Watson said he did not change the speed of the video and that claims he had altered it were a "brazen lie." Watson, who did not immediately respond to requests for comment, told BuzzFeed he created the video by downloading an animated image from conservative news site Daily Wire, zooming in and saving it as a video a conversion he says could have made it "look a tiny bit different."
Side-by-side comparisons support claims from fact-checkers and experts such as Jonathan Albright, research director of the Tow Center for Digital Journalism at Columbia University, who argued that crucial parts of the video appear to have been altered so as to distort the action.
The video has quickly become a flashpoint in the battle over viral misinformation, turning a live interaction watched by thousands in real time into just another ideological tug-of-war. But it has also highlighted how video content long seen as an unassailable verification tool for truth and confirmation has become as vulnerable to political distortion as anything else.
Amazing what you believe and are brainwashed from MSNBC & CNN.

Cleary he isn't middle-Eastern, but that's a dated photo of him. I'm not defending infowars, I've actually never even been to their site (do they have a site?), but the early reports on the shooting were wrong by other news sources as well. I happened to be up late last night working and had the tv tuned to CNN. The initial reports of the shooter was that he was in his 20s and had a lot of tattoos. I don't know if he has tattoos now, but none of the photos I've seen of him show any visible tattoos. Infowars is a clearly biased site and they will run with anything, confirmed or not, that fits their agenda, but sadly, that's how a lot of the media sources are these days.cms186 said:Wait, you are trying to claim Info Wars is a credible news source?riflebear said:I've seen his posts multiple times online and everything I have seen has been backed up. Way to completely deflect or miss the point. Acosta did not ask questions as anyone can see (who bothers to take the time). He literally begins with a challenge and follows up with an assertion. Is he looking for answers, or lecturing? Typical...Jinx 2 said:Asking the president why he outright lied about a caravan of refugees who won't reach the border for weeks and mischaracterized them as an "invasion" is totally legitimate.curtpenn said:A$$hat Acosta isn't "asking a legitimate question"; first words out of his mouth "... wanna challenge you on one of the statements you made..." followed by a lecture/assertion, "the caravan was not an invasion". But, no...Jinx 2 said:Trump is the kind of bully who tries to head off a perceived threat by making sure the bearers realize he's going to erupt at them like a supervolcano. I'm sure Leftists will applaud this though. They'll probably try to destroy that poor white White House aide next as punishment for daring attempt to take the mic from their leftist reporter god.
He was asking a legitimate question about Trump's rhetoric inciting violence. Trump didn't want to hear or answer the question. So Trump went on the offensive, trashing Acosta and 2 other reporters.
He's using the same tactic to try to ward off the investigation. Which makes it clear what he really fears. Wonder if he fired Sessions to make that the headline yesterday rather than the GOP's retaking of the House. That's his M.O.
You want everybody to sit down, shut up and believe everything Trump and his administration say--even the things you know aren't true--because you support his agenda.
I'm glad we have a press who won't do that.
My question is why Acosta thought he might get an honest answer from Trump re: the hateful rhetoric or his miscahracterization of the Honduran refugees. Trump was obviously not going to answer either of those questions--at least not truthfully.
