I'd assume you know cnn has hemorrhaged viewership after Mueller Report proved Trump innocence?

Turn off cnn in airports and it would vanish in a year

It loses 10s of millions a year and is propped to stay on

If cable providers weren't forced to keep this financial loser by virtual Socialism in TV it wouldn't be here just like msLSD

You don't get any of that so I'll pass on answering anything else from your financially illiterate Dumas
From a business standpoint you made a claim that you are running from. Show me the govt reg that forces cable providers to air CNN.

You're a joke

You know what I say is how it works and how cnn stays alive

Stop lying for just once

And stop wasting my valuable time!

CNN is a private company, snowflake.

He never made that claim. You did, when you mischaracterized what he did say. You brought up NPR. You brought in government. That was you. When he said you are lying, he's correct. You are very clearly doing just that here.

If you'll answer then I'll play this game a little longer being you're such an honest libertarian defending ultra leftist in the tank at all cost DNC voice cnn

I'm concerned that we don't know if the numbers coming from China are accurate. China does seem to be taking pretty dramatic measures in attempt to stop the spread. That is reassuring and also kind of scary. If their numbers are accurate, the mortality rate doesn't seem too high. I have heard some people say corona virus tends to dissipate in the spring. So we can hope for that.
The Chinese lie about everything.

Chinese businessmen are notorious for not fulfilling their obligations after saying they will to your face.

Integrity and honesty is not part of their culture like English common law is, so it wouldn't surprise me if they are downplaying this thing.

Hey LIQ, how many businesses have you started in China?

Zero?

Ok then, do you know the business model if an American wanted to open a business in China? Would the Chinese be his "partner" in the business? How much of the business would the Chinese own? How much business integrity and respect would the Chinese have for the American in this arrangement? Would they try to steal the business from the American in any way? Would they ever steal the business idea? Would they steal the business technology?

I doubt you've made large financial transactions in the millions with Chinese business as this is a common industry issue that comes up over and over again. Obligations and provisions aren't met on many occasions: More than not.

The stats prove you wrong:

Participants from China were found to be the least honest, with 70 per cent estimated to have lied about which side coins landed on, compared to 3.4 per cent of British participants, who emerged as the most honest in this test.

You appear to be conflating cultures with individuals. Do you truly believe that all cultures are the same in reference to how they view honesty, particularly in relation to business transactions? Do you truly believe there are not cultures that value honesty less than others?

Be honest in your response please.

Theres no doubt in my mind I can find examples of good and bad in all cultures.

"There's good and bad in all cultures"...while true, some cultures have more bad than others.

My opinions are based on very small samples. I havent found many Egyptians or Palestinians I would trust any further than I could throw them. I would never make the claim they lie about everything.

Theres no doubt in my mind I can find examples of good and bad in all cultures.

It sounds like our Pres. enjoys doing business with China with his own deals but damns anyone else that does the same thing.

You didn't answer my question. Are there cultures which value honesty less than others, particularly in business transactions?

For the sake of this discussion, consider that culture is the culmination of broadly accepted norms within a group. It generally represents the attitude of the average person in that culture.

Integrity and honesty is not part of their culture like English common law is, so it wouldn't surprise me if they are downplaying this thing.
lol

Hey LIQ, how many businesses have you started in China?

Zero?

Ok then, do you know the business model if an American wanted to open a business in China? Would the Chinese be his "partner" in the business? How much of the business would the Chinese own? How much business integrity and respect would the Chinese have for the American in this arrangement? Would they try to steal the business from the American in any way? Would they ever steal the business idea? Would they steal the business technology?

I have lived in China. I have worked in China. I have had contracts with individuals and contracts with businesses. I never had any problems.

I am sure there are Chine businessmen that will steal ideals and technology. Americans do it, Chinese do it, Japanese do it. English do it......

There are good men and bad men everywhere.

To say Chinese lie about everything is as laughable and says much more about the speaker than about China.

Sorry to interrupt, but if there is a country that lacks an honor culture, it is mainland China in my experience. Look no further than traffic accidents involving pedestrians. Anybody knows what happens there? I won't go into detail, bc it's disturbing.

Hong Kong and Taiwan are much more respectable to do business with, and even though they are under the Chinese umbrella, anyone who's been there knows they aren't really China.

Unfortunately it's just hard for anyone to compete pricewise with the mainland. So it's worth the business risk for some foreign companies.

Your opinion here is pretty much the accepted viewpoint in international business. I'd even go so far as to say it's completely non controversial. There's not a large number of tech firms with IP worth stealing who will produce high level products in China. Certainly not all at one location. It's commonly held that if you do try and produce high tech IP dependent products in China, you'll do that exactly once. Because you won't be needed afterwards.

Cultures, cultural norms and accepted cultural behaviors are very real things. Sometimes they are innocuous (like a love for curry or cumin). Sometimes they are insidious and self destructive. We need to be able to identify those and exclude them from the US where at all possible; curtail them where not possible to exclude them.

When they may affect our response to a possible pandemic, we need to recognize them, bake them into the cake and adjust for them to approach a very real problem with a reality based solution instead of basing our solutions on fabrications or gross underestimates. Objecting to broad, but broadly accurate assessments of a culture in an attempt to appear 'woke' isn't useful to anyone. Indeed, it may be dangerous, particularly in instances like this.

I hearing the corona virus or "Kung Flu" is going to be a pandemic. Of course they are still learning about the virus, but it appears not everyone that catches it is symptomatic or only minimally symptomatic yet can spread it.

That's one of the main problems with slowing the spread: you are contagious before you know you've got it. I have a friend at a S. Korean school where masks are mandated and you get your temperature taken on the way in. Useful but not foolproof.

I agree that many Chinese lie.

How about our president pushing others to buy/build American while he peddles his wares made in China? It would be laughable if it were just ties but I have heard it also includes metals for some of his building projects.

There's no room for hyperbole in 'woke' land. If one is aiming to be offended personally or on behalf of some intersectional group, one must take every statement not only completely literally but with the worst possible interpretation. In this case, he found it necessary to interpret your cultural critique as a genetic critique.

Oh, and he has to tie everything back to 'Trump is worse' somehow. It's the ultimate exhibition of 'wokeness' to constantly mutter 'Trump is evil' incantations.

All of Trumps wares for his campaign are made in the US.

It's not an anti China stance...

I can speak to this with some personal experience.

I worked for an international corporation which manufactured and distributed oilfield and pipeline equipment for nine years. During that time I often dealt with our foundry and factories in China. Chinese law allowed us to own and operate our foundry and factories as subsidiaries of our US corporation, but required us to partner with a Chinese business for our distribution and sales from China, especially our shipments through the port of Shanghai. For comparison, our Italy subdivision was allowed to sell and ship from Italy, but we were prohibited from manufacturing product in Italy - only Italian-owned companies were allowed to manufacture oilfield and pipeline equipment. The point is, there is a degree of protectionism in pretty much every country, and it's important to know the territory before you enter there as a business.

It is true that there are individuals and companies in China which will try to steal IP, especially patents and entertainment tech. That's been ignored by China for a long time, but there are moves to improve enforcement. The point there is that the government is not doing that nearly so much as they have been slow to chase down crooks. There is an amusing case of a Chinese company which built a pick-up based on stolen designs from the Chevy Colorado, but when Chevy changed the truck in 2012, the Chinese company was unable to keep up, and has become something of a joke in the industry.

The real trick with China is cash migration. China wants. very much, to keep hard cash in the country. That means you have no problem getting permission to upgrade your facilities and make capital expenditures, but moving money out of China is a lot more complicated. It's not unlike a casino - the PRC has to let some money leave China, in order to bring in new investors, but China wants to make sure the net movement is in their favor. This is where it really helps to have contacts in the PRC who can provide insight.

With all that said, the Coronavirus is a very big embarrassment to China. China has been working hard to build a first-world-nation image for decades, and this epidemic is hitting China across the board. Some experts are already saying this crisis will damage China's GDP for 2020 by a full quarter - imagine a crisis which damaged the Us Economy by around $5.5 Trillion dollars, and you can see how big a deal this is to Beijing. The bad news is that Wuhan officials were very slow to react to the initial outbreak, and so we are playing catch-up on things like the incubation period, and how long the virus can live on surfaces like handles and counters.

The good news is that the Coronavirus appears to be only mildly contagious and is less lethal than most other viruses. Coronavirus is a respiratory virus similar in character to the flu we fight every year, with an incubation period of 5.2 days, and the virus is unable to travel more than 6 feet through the air, indicating that precautions like masks and avoiding direct physical contact will be effective in preventing exposure for most people. Clinical trials are underway using a variant of the treatment which proved effective against the SARS virus.
