Given the speed of transmission right now and the fact that it is not detectable when first communicable, I would suggest that it will be a matter of months before it's a world wide issue.
How can that be? OldBear said this is still a contained virus.
** sigh **
I never said COVID-19 was held to one country. News flash, you cannot hermetically seal a country or region from a virus.
What I said was that a lot of the media hysteria was, and is, complete BS.
But that's not what you said. At all.
2/25/20 @ 9:47am, BearFan33: "Is it fair to say that we have lost containment?"
2/25/20 @ 10:16am, OldBear83: "No, that would not be a fair statement."
BJM continues to fail at reading comprehension.
Sad, that.
Well, glad to know you were able to find work, and are proud enough to share a scene of your first day, BJM.
Have we lost containment?
Spend some time listening to an epidemiologist, since you cannot follow my explanations.
I didn't ask about your simplistic explanations. I asked if we'd lost containment. You've been dodging that for a while now.
I answered in depth some time ago. You obviously failed to grasp what I was saying, so I simply recommended you listen to people in the field.
Your refusal to do so speaks to your attitude, not my position.
Pretty simple question, why don't you answer? If our roles were reversed you'd just assign me the more damaging answer. You do it like clockwork. I am giving you the respect to own your very own answer. Go for it.
Again, I answered in great detail more than once. Are you unwilling to look at those, that you want me to post it all over again? Or - by saying you are asking a "simple question" - are you trying to distill the whole matter of virology into a one-size-fits-all condition?
For an example, let's go into the matter of 'containment'. You seem to think containment means boxing the virus in, which has happened exactly zero times in human history. Ergo,
containment in terms of a virus does not mean locking it away or sealing a country, but rather taking the most effective actions to limit the spread of the virus, which is indeed what the US has done. A simple examination of how COVID-19 has spread in Europe, Asia and the Middle East versus its cases in the US should plainly reveal that the US actions have been more effective in limiting new cases in the US, which is containment by definition.
You seem to be trying very hard to play '
gotcha' games, quash. I'd much rather discuss the facts and progress towards effective treatment and vaccination, as indeed my previous posts on the virus have tried to do.
If you insist on the first option, I decline to play that game. If you wish to try the second option, then I must again ask you to seriously consider what I have already presented, as it is useful, reliable since it comes from medical authorities rather than some special-interest group of mass media, and provides reasonable minds grounds for confidence and cooperation.
That which does not kill me, will try again and get nastier
