No. 4 Bears Notch Eighteenth Win of Season, Beat Kansas State 74-49
WACO, Texas — The No. 4 Baylor men’s basketball (18-2, 6-2) team took care of business against the Kansas State Wildcats (10-9, 2-6), winning 74-49.
The Bears did what they needed to do against a team coming off an emotional rivalry loss. They built an 18-6 lead early and controlled the game from there.
The lead ballooned to as much as 19 points in the first half and hit 29 points in the second half.
LJ Cryer led the team in scoring yet again with 14 points but had a fairly inefficient night shooting
4-12 and committing 6 turnovers.
Kendall Brown stepped up and recorded his first Big 12 double-double with 10 points and 11 boards, while Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua posted an impressive 13 point, 12 rebound stat-line of his own.
For the Wildcats, not much was working all night against the effective Baylor defense. They shoot just 32% from the field and 21% from deep.
Nijel Pack led KSU with 13 points, but he scored the majority of those once the Bears had the game in hand. Markquis Nowell added 11 points for the Wildcats, but this one was never in doubt.
Adam Flagler was once again efficient with 13 points and 5 assists on 6-10 shooting and just 2 turnovers.
Dale Bonner even impressed tonight with a solid 7 points and 5 assists off the bench. He only turned the ball over once and shot 3-4 from the field.
Perhaps most encouraging for the Bears was the return of Jeremy Sochan who was +19 on the
court tonight in 20 minutes of action.
After the game, Scott Drew even said that he thought, for a moment, they might have James Akinjo back as well, so the Bears are getting close to full health once again.
Up next for Baylor is a trip to Alabama on Saturday, for their Big 12-SEC Challenge matchup with the 13-7 Crimson tide.
That game tips off at 3 PM CT on Saturday and will be televised on ESPN.
