96 Days till Kickoff: Al Walcott's 96-yard "Sugar Six"
On January 1st, 2022, Baylor football was locked in a grudge match with the No. 8 Ole Miss Rebels in the Sugar Bowl. Matt Corral had been sidelined with an injury and the defenses were dominating.
Then, just as Luke Altmyer was driving the Rebels into the red zone, Al Walcott and the Bears’ defense stepped up big time.
Walcott was in the perfect place at the perfect time and he made the most of it. He showed off his top speed beating everyone down the Baylor sideline to score the first points of the game.
Baylor would need just one other score to take home the program’s second Sugar Bowl title.
This pick-six was also the Bears’ longest interception return of the year and the second-longest defensive touchdown of the year.
That play was the perfect highlight to close out a year full of clutch defensive performances by the Bears.
