95 Days till Kickoff: Trestan Ebner vs BYU and the Immortal Ten
As always, keep track of both the stats and roster countdowns in the Offseason Hub!
A stat for the number 95 was a bit hard to come by, so today’s article will be a combination of a couple of quick notes.
First off, on October 16, 2021, Tristan Ebner rushed for 95 yards on 11 carries against the No. 19 BYU Cougars. His long for the day was a 37-yard, third-down rush in the 4th quarter. It helped extend a drive that became the cherry on top of the 38-24 victory.
It was Ebner’s third best performance by rush yards on the year, and it was easily the best defense he faced in those three games.
Now on to the second, more somber note. On January 2nd of this year, it was the 95th anniversary of the Immortal Ten.
While they are remembered especially through the Baylor Men’s Basketball team, there is a connection specifically to the football program.
From BaylorBears.com — “There was a hero of the accident, Jame Clyde ‘Abe’ Kelley. Kelley, who was captain-elect of the 1927 football team, saw the train just before impact and pushed his roommate, Weir Washman, out of the bus' window. Kelley is credited with saving the life of his best friend at the greatest expense to himself. Kelley was one of the 10 who died in the collision.”
It is rarely the wrong time to stop and remember the humanity of those who give so much time and effort to be athletes at Baylor University, especially considering how much they give to us fans, spectators, and media members.
So with 95 days till the 2022 Baylor Football season kicks off, here is one more chance to reflect.
