Keyonte George discusses his experiences at Baylor so far this summer.  How he would assess his and the team's performance in Canada.  How he is working hard to get his body in the best condition possible and the importance of playing with JOY.

Interview Notes

  • We discuss his mom’s passion as a fan in supporting him and all the teams he has been on in the past.
  • I share Davion Mitchell’s message to the current team and the importance of playing with JOY and ask Keyonte’s thoughts on that message.  Keyonte says JOY is our culture and we know the teams that love each other well go the furthest at the end of the season.
  • One of the reasons he came to Baylor is to get better in all the areas that you can control- being a great teammate, body language, bringing positive energy to the team.  What he loves about Baylor is how they push him in all areas of life- with the books, practicing hard, in the weight room.  A standard of excellence.
  • He wants to get his degree from Baylor even if he ends up being one and done.  His mom expects excellence in that area.  He talked about some of the benefits of a speech class he took this summer.
  • He’s excited about every game but the Arkansas game in Waco due to personal connections is one he can’t wait for.  He has a close friendship with Anthony Black.
  • We talked about his reputation for sulking or bad body language in high school and how mentors of his like Derrick Shelby pointed out that this needed to improve and he’s worked hard on it since.
  • We talk about some NBA comparisons to his game- Bradley Beal, D’Angelo Russell and Dwayne Wade.  One of the Baylor GAs- Demond Parker- works him out and also made a reel of Beall’s film to watch/study with him.
  • He answers a few message board questions.
  • He talks about his focus on eating right, building endurance with LJ Cryer and Langston Love and also getting stronger in the weight room.
  • Best defender:  Dale Bonner
  • Hangs out with LJ Cryer and Langston Love a lot.  Loves his teammates but he knew Langston well before he came to Baylor.  He lives with Caleb Lohner and gets along great with him.  Roomed with Dale in Canada and got close to him there.
  • Funniest guy on team:  Josh Ojianwuna
  • Trouble after midnight first call?  LJ Cryer- he doesn’t sleep
  • Most serious:  Flo Thamba
  • Biggest trash talker:  names himself and tells some funny stories about Canada in that regard.  Always leaves it on the court.
